I don't mind the pets or the concept of using them as camouflage (actually I think it's pretty cool), but the execution is off. With Michonne in this episode it was almost like magic... she should walk among zombies and they didn't notice her at all until she started with the sword, even when she strayed from her pets. It would have made more sense is she brought her pets closer and was walking tightly between them. Also, in the comic it was explained that it took Michonne quite a while to "domesticate" the pets... they only lost their will to attack after some time. Her original pets were her boyfriend and his best friend in the comic... I'm not sure how implicit it's supposed to be that they were the pets in the TV show (we do see them with their arms cut off in the dream). But the reason she discovered that they become docile is because she kept them around a long time for company, and noticed their will to attack eventually waned.
In the TV show the latest pets were immediately made docile. Actually when Andrea created a walking pet to travel to the prison last season, that one seemed more aggressive if I recall correctly despite having it's limbs removed and jaw broken, so the writers have been waffling on how the whole concept should work.
