In all honesty, I was expecting this to suck. I was never a fan of the spots on Super Deluxe...but the pilot has swayed me, I thought it was great. I'm also loving the voice cast, which includes Brad Neely himself as both Professor Brothers (yeah, ANOTHER Steve Smith), Andy Richter as the CIA Agent that could talk, Dave Coulier, and, like you said, Hulk Hogan as the Dean.
The show really reminds me of a show [as] passed on but was picked up by CN instead, The Problem Solverz, and how similar the two are. Both shows have origins on the internet (here's Professor Bros
, here's Problem Solverz
), both using limited animation, both styles improved once they reached TV, and both of their pilots dealt with a messed-up time travel plot.
The Problem Solverz dealt with a roller coaster called "The Time Twister," which aged anyone who rode on it (riding it backwards de-ages them), and they had to destroy it by riding the coaster fast enough to reach the end of time to kill the monster the lived there.
This show had Ronald Reagan building a time machine to get revenge on Steve for humiliating him on TV back in the 80's, then the two enlighten each other over 155 years, then go back in time to stop every catastrophe in history, only to cause the apocalypse. Seriously, Jewish Hitler was hilarious about how frightening the thought of it was. Hitler was still Hitler, but was Jewish and lived in 2011. I gotta love that Reagan's time machine was a robot horse, and that he declared himself a time lord once he came back for revenge. We need more time-traveling jerks, especially ones that steal frozen people's money.
I'd say this series is much better on all levels: Character designs, animation, writing, and the overall design of the show itself. Problem Solverz looked and sounded like a loud, annoying flash cartoon with random, shallow plots. China, IL has that same feel, but looks and sounds nowhere near as loud, annoying, or random. This has a more minimalistic, down to Earth feel, with a solid plot with lots of great twists. Again, Jewish Hitler.
