Me! I want Ireland to do well obviously, however I have a softspot for the Welsh-it always amuses me that in total their squad only ever has about 5 surnames i.e. Jones, Jenkins, Williams...what a small country lol.

I think NBC has a secret plan to replace football with rugby as America's favorite sport, or else some senior exec must be a huge fan. I'm surprised they're showing it on the main network and not just Universal. I've also seen them show Sevens quite a bit recently.
I didn't watch the prematch coverage on NBC of the USA match to see if they covered this, but I think they need to do some viewer education on the rules if they expect to get a broader audience, and using the local match announcers doesn't help in this regard since they take knowledge of the game for granted.

While obviously I am cheering for Canada - we beat the United States on both home-and-home friendlies, yay! - I am rooting for the All Blacks. Their opening game was great. It was as if they were teaching Tonga how to play. For the first-ranking team in the world, it is amazing that they won the Webb Ellis only once in all previous 6 World Cups.
As for broadcasting, I am so happy with TSN and TSN2 in Canada. They air all except two games live and on delay for selected games.

Dunno, the US studio commentators said that NZ fans and press were all over the All Blacks for not winning by a bigger margin. I guess in the last World Cup they beat Tonga something like 85-10. But apparently they played a lot of second stringers this time.
US TV showed the NZ/Tonga match and will show all US matches. I haven't seen any others listed. I assume they will show more once they get out of pool play, but who knows.

I'm hoping so Rickster. Because the U.S. isn't that good. I'd rather see the Tri-Nations teams. Also, I have Universal Sports not in HD, so it's trying watching.

Hi Wee S,
What anthem is sung for the Ireland team? IIRC I think it is different with the Ireland's anthem I heard at FIFA World Cup 2002.

Hey TV Anonymous. Would you believe that I slept in and missed the opening match? Don't think I should watch tomorrow though either..when's the Italy game?! In reply to your question, I do believe the Irish 'anthem' played at the World Cup is 'Ireland's Call' as they are away fixtures. If it was being held in Ireland both 'Ireland's Call' and our official anthem 'Amhrán na bhFiann' would be played.

I am very much excited to know who will win! I bet you are excited as well! I heard the tickets were very expensive, but I guess it did not stop those sports fans from purchasing it even if it means getting a payday loan. Indeed, being a die-hard fan is a pricey undertaking, as sports are prohibitively costly. That is an infallible truth! However, watching sporting events can be a valuable experience for everybody and being a die hard fan can be a way of acquiring positive sporting behavior! Do you agree? Wait! Is there a social media update to those who can't watch the sporting event live because they can't afford to buy those expensive tickets? Social media could be a great medium for sports commentary!

Congrats to the kiwis!
Low scoring match but NZ beat France at home in Auckland.
