Until the rumours began about her participation I'd never heard of her. But if she does get Maks then she's got my support. Hope she turns out to be good. I'd even accept potentially good. They'd certainly look good together and we know Maks likes it when his partner is athletic.

I agree, and I think what he likes most is not just the athleticism and that his partner's in shape, although that's part of it. I think what he likes most about athletes as partners (he's really only had the 2, right? Misty May and Laila Ali?) is that they have a strong work ethic and they know how to take coaching. They're used to being told what they need to do to improve and they're willing to work hard to do it.

I think if you combine the above with even the eesiest bit of dance ability/natural rhythm, and Maks?!, Hope has Hope!

I'm a huge fan of hers so I'm excited to see her on the show. Not a big fan of Maks, but he makes the most sense, appearance-wise. She also isn't afraid to speak her mind so I'm sure TPTB are hoping for a few sparks between her and Maks during rehearsals.

I hope she stays injury free during her time on the show (*knock on wood*). She is generally considered the best goal keeper in the world right now so it'd be a damn shame if she somehow hurt herself on this silly little show of ours. She also had major shoulder surgery about a year ago and is still rehabbing that, I believe, so I hope she doesn't aggravate anything.

If I were a betting man I think she will be in the finals. As long as she has some Rhythm and enjoys the process she will be fine.

Maks wanted her as his partner, and he got his wish! Hope can be pretty outspoken & sometimes not think before she speaks (see infamous World Cup 2007 incident), but I hope she can dance. She is by far the #1 goalkeeper in Women's Soccer & one of the most high profile faces in the game. She is already rehabbing her shoulder & hasn't played since the World Cup final, so I hope she doesn't aggravate it further & jeopordise her participation in the Olympics.

Well, I love her and I love Maks so I'll be watching basically just for them since I have no interest in any of the other participants.

Hopefully, he can do for her what he did for Laila because I was not impressed with Misty May that much. If she can have the grace, fire and fun personality that Laila did; then she will make it to the finals with no problem. I compare her to Laila because that's the category of contestant that I put her in. I just hope that they stick to the fun and dancing and not encourage any showmance rumors. That ruins any partnership for me on this show.

From what I see, she's much more feminine. I'd like to see her have a Laila type arc on the show. If she can dance, man, she's going far.

I'm a huge fan of hers, but I really wish she wasn't doing the show this season. With the Olympics less than a year away, I'd hate to see her reinjure her shoulder or risk some other injury. And in that respect, Maks is just about the worst partner she could get. He is not one to coddle his partners, and she is absolutely the type to push through any pains or warning signs without complaint. Hopefully one of them will have the sense to rest every once in a while :)

My other concern with the pairing is actually one of the things I appreciate most about Hope - she is an uber-confident, cocky bad*ss. It's part of what makes her so good, and so fearsome as a goalie. In short, she rocks and she knows it! But combine that with Maks, who is not exactly an ego-free shrinking violet, and you've got the potential for a whole lot of attitude. Though I guess I should be thankful she's not shorter so she'd be paired with Mark, resident artistic genius that he is.

Ah, whatever - more exposure for women's soccer is awesome in any form. Hope she does us proud!

I doubt the average dwts fan has a clue who Hope Solo is. Soccer isn't that popular in the U.S. I can easily see her voted out by week 7. Unless she's such a fabulous dancer that new fans flock to her in support.

I had no clue as to who she was until her name became linked as a possible DWTS candidate. None of my family friends had a clue either. I watched some interviews of her after Maks put her name on my radar and I have to say that I hope he works on her personality before the show. She's a little bit dry and I can see her coming off more like Natalie did during her season. Her advantage is that she has Maks who has a following and who has a lot more personality where Alek didn't and that just doomed spelled doom being paired with another low key person. I think Maks knows how to bring out a personality in his partners, so that will be what's key for these two. Being a female athlete/Olympian doesn't give you an advantage unless it's in gymnastics or ice skating. If she can actually dance then I think they will at least make it to the semi-finals. I'm skeptical about a win. We'll see.

Natalie Coughlin had big big competition that Hope doesn't have. There's no 'Mya' to compete with in scores and no 'Donny/Kelly' to compete in fanbase.

Hope just came off the World Cup. If she dances well the first night and establish a good rapport with Maks, she's golden for at least the first few weeks.
