He's Russell's nephew. Is that something he should be proud of, or will he hide it from the others?

I have literally never wanted to pre-hate somebody before I saw them on television before.

Until now. And I was spoiled for that Amazing Race season with Jonathan the (alleged, cough splutter) wife shover.

"But he's not actually Russhole!"

I don't care. They'd have spent enough time together for his odiousness to affect Brandon.

ETA: I mean, he may very well be interesting and all, but... four out of the last five seasons have had a Hantz in them. What's next? Tim Hasselbeck? Julie's new boyfriend?

Probably Russhole's cousin or something like that.

Ugh.

This whole thing revolves around him now even when he's not even there!

I'm probably deviating from the norm but despite his familial ties, he seems cool to me.

At the moment I am inclined to root for him because he sort of coming into this as an underdog. We will see.

That's what I don't like about this bit of casting. I'm sure we'll have to hear a million confessionals about Russell, and what Russell would do, and what Russell will say about what's happening in a season that doesn't feature Russell, and Russell Russell Russell Russell.

Brandon might be an okay guy, but that doesn't mean he should be on the show. Maybe they should do a season where every contestant is a Hantz so Burnett and Probst can get it out of their systems.

I hope he has more backbone than the show's last 19-year-old, Natalie Tenerelli. He seems to have had more life experience than her, so I think he'll do better than she did (not that third is bad... well, third behind Philip is pretty bad).

I heard they were casting Russell's nephew a while back, and mostly it just makes me shake my head. I mean, what does casting him accomplish other than pissing off fans who don't like Russell? Are Russell fans going to be excited to see a substitute Hantz? I doubt it, and he doesn't seem interested in emulating Russell's character anyhow...

Hobbies: Shooting my guns, hunting and eating crawfish.

If he's not hunting, what is he shooting his guns for?

This. I can think of literally no other reason for this than to keep talking about Russell some more. I'm not convinced that mere mentions of Russell will be enough to entice Hantz's fans into watching the season, but maybe Burnett and Probst know something I don't.

Ah well. I hope he's a nice but incredibly boring guy, just to spite them.

Just got wind of the Russell's nephew aspect. It's enough to make me sit out this season. Later, Survivor.

Does anyone else think Russhole will be the family member to visit Brandon? Maybe I should have put quotation marks around "member".

Supposedly he was the assigned loved one until Brandon realized at the last minute that that was actually a terrible idea.

Why do I think Russell was pushing him for that? At least Brandon realized it wasn't a smart idea.

So whatever happens, Russell gets to talk at the reunion. Brandon can be the nicest guy in the world, but I do not want him to win. Russell will claim it as a win for him, Probst will of course agree, and we'll never hear the end of it.

I thought with the whole spoilers thing that Burnett hated Russell?

Maybe he does, but not bad enough to get in the way of stunt casting...

For whatever it's worth, I did notice the other day that Brandon and Russell don't have each other as friends on Facebook. Because, you know, all about Facebook.

Might not necessarily mean anything. Some family members don't have each other as Facebook Friends, even though they keep in touch.

It doesn't seem that way. Probst was practically begging him to come back before the last season was over. Having his nephew on is probably just a prelude to that.

I wonder how Brandon will play this.

I got a dollar here that at some point in the show, this guy will be confessing, or shown doing something on the beach, and they'll drop in an inset of Russell with some pithy insight about the boy. I would not be terribly surprised if there was an inset color comment from Russell in every episode that this kid is in.

Vomit.

Guess I'm in the minority, again.

I'm automatically rooting for him because he's related to Russell.

I enjoyed watching Russell play the game. Hopefully his nephew will be equally entertaining to me.

Can he do anything besides tell the camera he's Russell's nephew? He didn't think this through very well regarding his tats. people are going to see them at some point.

I also didn't get the scene where he was turned off by the women in the tree. I just thought that was rather odd.

She's creating lust in him, therefore she is a whore and must be destroyed. It's delightful.

Yeah, that's what I got from it too. At very best, all he meant was that he can't align with attractive scantily-clad women because his family would misinterpret it. Which raises the question, um... WHAT show does he think he's on? Was there also some Amish Quilting Bee or something that was ruined by Uncle Russ?
Also, what kind of a pompous fuckwad gets their own NAME tattooed on themselves? Twice? Or did Rusell pay him to get those tats right ater he was accepted for the show?

I can deal with somebody keeping his eyes on the prize, eliminating distractions, etc., but what a little troll. She's a tanktop-wearing harlot! "I don't like the way she carries herself." Cut to Brandon staring at Mikayla [gasp] squatting in a tree.

I was totally willing to give him a chance but he is actually creepier than Russell. First he acts like that poor girl is some kind of harlot and how she is basically tempting him to cheat on his wife when as far as I could see she was just working on the shelter. Then, he starts CREEPING around and hiding behind things to LOOK AT HER! I couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing. He's basically stalking her!

It's fine that he is uncomfortable around her, and if he just said that, ok. But the creepy spin that she was flaunting herself in the tree was both inaccurate and a little disturbing.

That 'flaunting herself' comment when she was doing nothing of the sort is very disturbing. That's the same kind of mentality they have in places where women are expected to wear burkas or be stoned as whores. And Brandon, excuse me, Li'l Hantz, if she induces lust in you by simply being in your presence, then quit sneaking around staring at her, ya big jerk!

The staring from behind the tree creeped me out as well. I'm hoping it was stunt editing, but I'm afraid it wasn't.

Also, has he never watched this show? He thinks telling Coach he's Li'l Hantz is going to end well for him? Well, everyone keeps secrets so well on Survivor. Don't think so.

At first I thought the point of this round of Redemption Island was to give Coach & Ozzy a shot at redemption since they are, after all, the returning players this season.

Now I see the point is to give Russell a shot at redemption, even though he's not playing, since his nephew is even worse than he is. At least Russell is just straight up asshole.

There must be something pretty screwed-up about the Hantz family when Russell can come off as the (relatively) normal one.
