I love this album, and for myself, find nothing bland about it. I think it's a much stronger record than KATA. The songs are upbeat and a little quirky--love My Weakness and Rooftops--and the production is so much better. No wonder Kris is so proud. He should be!

Entertainment Weekly likes it, and I love this bit of their review:

Allen delivers his lyrics with an earnest confidence (and occasional swagger) that keeps his songs from becoming treacly, and makes Thank You Camelia a cohesive, warmhearted charmer.

Earnest confidence and the occasional swagger--yep, that's Kris. The full review is here: Thank You Camelia

Allmusic.com gave the album 3.5 stars. I don't totally disagree with the writers description of Kris or the album, even though I think that Better With You, Rooftops, and My Weakness are attention grabbers. At least I think that those three have elements that people will remember after just one or two listens, and the same goes for TVOL. I do wish that the writer's descriptions had been phrased a different way, but he's basically describing how Kris is viewed, and the situation that he is in.

Only Kris can get a pretty good review that ticks me off at the same time. Can the guy get a compliment without it being backhanded? Sigh....

Reminds me of The NY Daily News review of KATA where the guy gave it more stars than John Mayer and liked it but said Kris' voice had been altered, the songs were written for him and people will like it because he's cute.

Kris Allen-the Rodney Dangerfield of pop music.

That review lead me to one for Carrie's current album, where the reviewer pretty much said the same thing about her, and took the time to trash her previous album, which has sold more than 2 million copies. I think the lesson is that the reviews don't matter, and people won't care whether Kris is the nicest guy ever or not, if he produces hit songs.

I know reviews don't really matter, but it would be nice to see the guy get some credit without it being qualified in some way. I also don't disagree that Kris has "understated charm" but saying the songs are "square" seems ridiculous to me. Anyway you're right that this is how Kris is viewed and you're also right that if he produces hit songs it won;t matter.

I don't think that it is ridiculous, it describes well my own opinion.

Kris will be on the Live With Kelly today.

I don't know, but the word square doesn't seem like the best word to describe music, or a song. The word, when used to describe people, is incredibly old fashioned, and to my knowledge hasn't been a popular description for at least a few decades. So, it's a little funny that that critic would describe a song as not being hip by using a word that's no longer hip, and that wouldn't resonate with a younger demographic.

During his show at the Apple store on Monday, Kris said that he won't get back in LA in time to go to the American Idol finale. The upside to this is that it has to mean that Kris is scheduled to do more press in New York. Hopefully he's scheduled some appearances that will put him in front of a large audience.

One more thing, Kris' show from the Apple store will be available as a free podcast in about a week.

Two quick observations after listening to the album and hearing some songs for the first time. I love Kris's voice on "Blindfolded". All of the cracks and breaks are fantastic and his phrasing really elevates that song because lyrically I don't think its his strongest effort. Second, "Rooftops" sounds like it could have been played on "The O.C." especially the early season 1 stuff from that show. It just had that vibe for me and reminded me of the show's soundtracks.

Seems like Kris is making good use of his time in NYC. Yesterday a couple of radio interviews (WWFS, WPLJ) plus that Apple Store thing. Today, Live with Kelly, private show for a NYC ad agency, dropped by VEVO http://instagr.am/p/K8ssIwQujm/

And tonight he's doing a show at The Darby (club in NYC) -- possible album release party?

And who knows what we haven't heard about. He's back in L.A. tomorrow night -- is scheduled to perform at KIIS-FM's Idol After Party (so is Stefano)

Hot damn that dance mix of TVOL linked on Parker's review is INSANE, it would be a tragedy if that tune doesn't get picked up by radio.

"My Weakness" needs to be on the radio. For a long time. Maybe forever.

I'm not sure what's more pathetic: that TMZ has taken an offhand remark in response to why Idol ratings were down and turned it into Kris "bashing" Idol (if you actually watch the video Kris tosses it off as a "maybe" comment). Or that the Huffington Post calls questions yelled at him as he's going up an escalator an "interview."

Poor Kris, I can't believe how silly this making a mountain out of a molehill stuff is, for the record, I sort of agree with him about IDOL. I was reading reviews of the album over at Amazon, most good, I hope some more people weigh in over there (hint, hint.) The more I listen to it, the more I love TYC, so many well crafted tunes, but will the radio programmers realize how good the album is?

Who cares about TMZ or Huffington Post? I saw some of the comments and they're horrible, but those people were never going to buy Kris' music anyway so whatever. Either they are cray fans of other idols or they are basically indifferent to Kris. However the indifferent ones might buy TVOL if they hear it and like it!

Speaking of which it seems that TVOL is picking up some steam lately and could possibly break into the top 30 in the next few days.

Kris needs this song to take off so I prefer to worry about that and not some stupid TMZ hatchet job. They do this stuff to everybody.

A little scoop on which movie Kris tried out for. http://www.okmagazin...-audition-movie

Ok is going to post some more stuff from this interview, including whose album one of Kris' co-writes might appear on.

Kris isn't the first artist to ever be misquoted, and it won't be the last time that it happens to him or anyone else. It is weird that TMZ's headline doesn't match what Kris said in the video that is on their site, but so many people are ignoring that. That's just how things are. John Mayer was right when he said that the Huffington Post is just like Mediatakeout, but that people ignore that, because of those who run the site.

Whenever I see Kris dealing with these things, I just think about all the trash that is thrown at someone like Kanye West or other major acts, and remember that these incidences haven't derailed their careers anymore than being called boring or bland has hurt Rob Thomas, his ability to collect Grammy's, awards and recognition for his writing, or sell his music.

Kris in Rock of Ages? Doesn't seem like a match made in heaven! Good for him for giving it a try. I hope he continues to look into acting. With training I think he could be good.

MV007, if My Weakness doesn't get to be heard on the radio, I'm going to be a very sad and disappointed person.

I would not compare Kris Allen to Kayne West or Rob Thomas.

They also said of Kris:

But it could be a case of "Bitter, party of one." Kris' latest album is only projected to sell a measly 15-20k in its first week ... and there are rumblings that he will be dropped from his record label.

Well that would be a shame since the album is really strong, and filled with well crafted, catchy pop tunes, I don't think that it is the quality of the music that is influencing sales, if the projections are to be believed. Anyway, Kris is out there working his butt off promoting the thing.

I kind of lost track of Kris along the way, but with this week's finale, I can't help but think if Kris would have had a very different career if he was with Jimmy Iovine and Universal? I wish he had a big winner's song like what Phillip Phillips got. I also think he needed a lot more backing from TPTB, none of that co-winner stuff, which gave him a tough start. Kris said something about P2 that was telling. He said Phillip is Phillip and he is going to do what he wants. Unfortunately, it seems with Kris, like with the TMZ story, everything is heighten against him; every move is criticized.

Kris won and there is no changing that. But the nonsense seems to go on and on.
