Now that Awards season is in full swing, I figured that there should be a thread to discuss all things related to BE and awards, whether they're prestigious (the Emmys, the Golden Globes) or mundane (The Tubeys). In case you're wondering about the thread title, because BE is centered around booze, one of the most famous brands is Johnnie Walker, which comes in Red and Black labels and since awards are usually gold, I wanted to incorporate both things in the title.

Anyway, please chat about BE's nominations, wins, losses or anything else award-related here.

Here's the full list of Emmy nominations (you have to DL a PDF or Word doc.) Pertinent to BE:

* Best Actor in a Drama Series: Steve Buscemi as Nucky Thompson

* Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Kelly MacDonald as Margaret Schroeder

* Outstanding Drama Series: Boardwalk Empire

Steve Buscemi is the odds-on favorite to win Best Actor (though personally I would like to see Jon Hamm win, he can't help it if Bryan Cranston has a role that allows him to completely dominate that category, and this year is the one year Breaking Bad is ineligible.)

Micheal Pitt got no Supporting Actor nod, which I think is total bullshit, pardon my French. Nor the young man who plays Richard Harrow, both of whom I think turned in better performances than Buscemi [/personal opinion]

Marty Scorcese won the Best Director for a Drama Series Emmy for his direction of the BE pilot and gave a nice acceptance speech, in which he thanked his family, co Exec Producer Mark Wahlberg, the crew and virtually all of the major cast members.

They also won seven Emmys during the Creative Arts award show a couple of weeks ago—art and sound editing, makeup, cinematography, and so forth.

Scorsese deserved the Director Emmy. Mad Men was the best show and deserved its one Emmy for that. Jon Hamm strictly speaking should have won, but I can see why that one went to Kyle Chandler based on the whole show, not the one episode.

The music is extraordinary, and I loved the soundtrack of last season, although I would have been happier had it been three times as large. So cheers to the show!

I am ashamed to admit that I've not really paid much attention to the awards race recently so I must ask, is Boardwalk Empire still considered a front runner for the Golden Globe Awards this year? Nominations come out soon right?

Hmm, hard to say. Boardwalk Empire did win last year, but then again, the Globes are famous for honoring new shows in their first year of eligibility. But I don't know if there's really been an acclaimed breakout freshman drama this year (Game of Thrones?), so maybe it's one of those unpredictable categories.

I don't know if I would pay much attention to that website, though. They have Mad Men in fourth place, but I'm pretty sure it's not eligible, because it didn't air this year. (The Globes go by the calendar year, unlike the Emmys.)

Nominations are announced on December 15.

The SAG Award nominations are out, and Steve Buscemi scored a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series. The show also received recognition for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

ETA: the correct nomination titles.

Golden Globe nominations are out, too.

Best TV Drama: Boardwalk Empire
Best Actor in a TV Drama: Steve Buscemi
Best Supporting Actress in TV Series, Mini-Series, or Made-for-TV Movie:
Kelly Macdonald

I have to say, considering Breaking Bad isn't up for best TV drama this year, the only real competition is Game of Thrones in that category. I think Boardwalk has a pretty decent chance of taking home that prize again.

Edit: Here's the link to see the entire list of nominations.

Unbelievable to me that Pitt didn't at least get a supporting nomination.

The problem with the Globes is that you have supporting actors from TV, TV-movies, and miniseries all squeezed into one category, so it's tougher to get nominated than in pretty much any other category. Plus, Michael Pitt is also facing a ton of internal competition. Seriously, you could probably fill out a whole supporting actor ballot with just actors from this show.

BE won both of the Screen Actors' Guild awards it was nominated for: one for Outstanding Performance By A Lead Actor In A Drama Series Steve Buscemi and the other for Outstanding Performance By A Dramatic Ensemble. It deserved another for making Martin Scorcese's last name a drinking game.

I love Steve Buscemi, but I'm sorry, Bryan Cranston deserved that statue. He was incredible this season! Same with Aaron Paul. Michael Pitt isn't all that great to me on this show, re-watching his scenes I found some of his facial expressions and line deliveries to be cringe inducing.

Tim Van Patten won an Emmy tonight for his directing. Not only wasn't he there to receive his award, he didn't personally participate (like all the other directors) in the montage of nominees who said or did humorous bits to highlight their work. Instead, Steve Buscemi was shown in an angst-filled, crying scene.

I should do a google to see what's up with Tim.

Buscemi presented an award later in the show, and said, "yeah, Tim Van Patten," which was sweet, I thought.

It looked like the scene when Nucky broke down over his father's corpse.
