I would have really liked Miss California's dress if not for that hugely over-sized ruffle thing hanging off of one side. It looked so heavy.

They all sounded brain dead on their big questions.

I thought Miss Hawaii was robbed of top 4 and should have been in her place.

I didn't like them being eliminated in groups of 4. But I loved the extra info

It doesn't matter who wins for Miss USA (although hurray for a redhead win - even if it isn't natural). She will get smoked at Miss Universe. Miss USAs always come across as Hee-Haw Honeys against Miss India and the like.
The United States doesn't stand a chance. I took a look at last year's contestants and it's like night and day. Is there any surprise that the United States has not won a Miss Universe since 1997? I hated almost everyone in the final 15 except Miss Hawaii who I thought was gorgeous, all the rest were beautiful but not in real competition with the Miss Argentinas and Bollywood bound Miss Indias that they will be in competition with.

She was basically a twig in her own right.
And compare her to the other women, some of whom could use a burger or two also:

This pageant in particular is pushing more and more toward that look.
Find a photo of Shandi Finnessey (USA 2004, first runner up in Universe 2004), and the other contestants from then, and you'll see they were fit, toned, or trim, but nothing resembling what you're seeing lately... and we're talking only several years ago.
A bad trend... Outside of having some fake baseballs up top, body shape is out of vogue for some reason.
On another note, what's the deal with the USA & Universe pageants slowly creeping later and later into the year?
For years, during the CBS era and up to NBC's first few years, Miss USA was typically a February event, with Miss Universe following no later than May. Over the last few years, Trump's organization has slid them to April-June, then May-July, and now its June-September. At this rate, they'll be holding them during the holidays. What gives?
Is it a network thing NBC's doing, due to sliding ratings to shove them away from sweep months, or something else?
** a similar thing has happened with Miss America too - long held in September, it's now crept into January.

My only comment: Three--count 'em--THREE black judges on the panel and NOT ONE black contestant even makes it to the final 15. I stopped watching after that. Asshats.
I don't understand this comment. Are you saying thay black judges should only vote for black contestants? On that vein, were there any Asian/Hispanic/Natire American judges/contestants and what does that mean?

I was happy they chose a winner who wasn't afraid to call herself a geek.

I actually think the new Miss USA has a great chance to win. I think she is the prettiest in a long time. She looked soo stunning next to last year's homely winner.
She and Miss Hawaii are the only ones that would have had a chance to make the top ten at Miss Universe , so glad at least one of them won.
How was miss Hawaii not in the top 4?? She is so stunning.

The new Miss USA is from New Jersey and the girl who takes her place as Miss California now is from Montana. Is it that hard to find beautiful women in California?

Nevada was gorgeous as well but she seemed like she was drunk the whole show and just overall a trainwreck, I kind of wish she had won.

I only watch these pageant shows if I have nothing else to do and I realize its on. I did watch Miss Universe and thought it was much better. I prefer the obvious variety the Miss Universe pageant provides. There wasn't anyone from last night that really impressed me. A few stood out (like the girl with the bangs) but I just thought her head looked humongous. The United States doesn't stand a chance. It was really sad to look at those girls. There was one girl I can't remember from what state that did look like she had a bit more meat on her but I doubt she made it far. I turned the channel after the swimsuit part and never turned back. I would love nothing more for the trend to move further toward the healthy more fit scale. A lot of those girls looked sickly thin.Find a photo of Shandi Finnessey (USA 2004, first runner up in Universe 2004), and the other contestants from then, and you'll see they were fit, toned, or trim, but nothing resembling what you're seeing lately... and we're talking only several years ago.

Yay to her, she's pretty enuff but I agree with previous posters that the Miss Universe paegant is much more entertaining. There are some stunningly, beautiful women in that paegant; alot of exotic beauty you just don't find here in the U.S.

For the most part I agree. IMO not one girl was stunning. To me they all looked extremely average which isn't going to cut it at the Miss Universe pageant with the exquisite beauties from Argentina, India etc. Perhaps R.I. will get lucky and reach the top 10. I wish her the best.

I loved Mai's comments about how the judges are looking at the womens' "fitness" while they strutted in their string bikinis and heels. "Fitness" could be shown many other ways.
Yes, they (and Hooolihahahna and Kate Middleton) are painfully thin. I do not mean to disparage thin people in the same vein overweight people are disparaged, because some people find it as hard to gain weight as others do to lose, but to hold this anexoric look up as a standard of beauty and fitness is a very, very bad thing, particularly for young girls.
I accidentally caught the last 15 minutes of this and knew within five minutes that RI was going to win. I think NV was put through only because it was broadcast from LV. What a dud she was.
What I found striking was the lack of surprise/joy on any of the top 10 and top five's faces when announced. It was like they knew ahead of time they were advancing. Then today I hear about PA saying the results had been pre-determined. I wouldn't be surprised if that were true.
