Glee expands its ginormous cast with an American Idol-esque reality show that will feature appearances by current cast members Darren Criss and Chord Overstreet as well as creator Ryan Murphy. Premieres June 12.

"The Glee Project," where performers will compete for a multi-episode guest-starring role on season three of hit series "Glee," will premiere on Oxygen in June 2011.

I just watched their version of Firework, and I have to say that I'd be for more than one of these kids to be in S4, after some cast pruning occurs.

I also really liked Ellis.

Judging from the Firework video and some of the other clips on the site I think Lindsay is the most glee- ready of all of them. I do like cameron and samuel though to get some unique voices in terms of the guys and Hannah seems like a funny gal and has a good voice too. I like Marissa too just because she seems to be someone who canget that mean girl thibg down that i don't quite see in quinn and also we need more redheads on glee. So far kurtcedes and blue hoodie boy are the only ones that are annoying to me and come off as trying too hard. Judging from reactions on forums, Damian fans may be the new Darren stans. Oi!

My interest is definitely piqued and looking forward to the show. If anything it will help pass the time 'til season 3 starts.

I have no idea what any of their names are, but I have a soft spot for the dark haired kid with the braces because he reminds me of young David Krumholtz.

The ads are ridiculous on their website. You have to watch a regular ad for 30 seconds, then a 30 sec ad for the show, than Another 30 second ad before you get to the actual video clip. DAMN. And a couple don't even bring you to their videos. Jeez.

The ones that stand out to me are Matheus, Ellis, and Lindsay.

Like so far - they are different and interesting and not annoying:
Damian McGinty (Irish dude)
Ellis (Looks-younger-than-S1-Chris girl)
Samuel (dreads)
Cameron (nerd glasses)

Been there already, done that better:
Hannah (Less-attractive Lauren)
Alex Newell (Kurtcedes) - Seriously, look at his bit in meet the contenders and mentally slap a weave on him. Mercedes, with a side of extra flaming. Trying waaaay too hard, too. You're not that adorable, darling.
Bryce (Matt 2.0) - He'd have to play someone with a radically different personality for me not to constantly see Matt. Also, he looks weirdly mature to me - not old, but definitely looks like a college student.

Doesn't stick in my mind long enough to give a meh about yet:
Marissa (redhead)
McKynleigh (short haired gal with green jacket)
Lindsay (brunette with scarf)
Matheus (Blue hoodie)

Want to punch repeatedly already and they haven't even aired the pilot:
Emily (Busty lady)

I just saw the "Firework" video as an ad on another show.

So are all the contestants going to be auto-tuned during the competition? Because the auto-tuning was more evident than the voices of the contestants. Why bother having a competition at all, if the producers are just going to ruin the effect of singing as they do with all "Glee" songs?

Let me just say augh:

Turns out the 12 finalists aren't necessarily the best singers, dancers or actors — though, certainly, having those skills helped. Rather, Ulrich says they all possess that difficult-to-pinpoint Glee spirit. Or, more to the point, they all have the potential to inspire Glee's writing staff.

Really?

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that, in this day and age, most of the kids have YouTube channels, should I? I did a quick search for each contestant and found channels or at least individual videos for almost all of them. It does give you a little bit more of a taste of their vocal styles and capabilities than the ten seconds or so we got in the "Firework" video:

(Also, am I the only one tempted to give these guys the equivalent of Sue's Kids nicknames? Actually, I'd rather have Sue do it, because I'd feel offensive.)

Alex Newell: YouTube channel, 8 videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/bcdada

Bryce Vine: YouTube channel, 13 videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/BryceVine

Cameron Mitchell: YouTube channel, 5 videos: http://www.youtube.c...onmitchellmusic

Damian McGinty: no YouTube channel, but tons of individual videos, many from before his voice changed. More recent ones where he's singing solo:
http://www.youtube.c...feature=related
http://www.youtube.c...feature=related
http://www.youtube.c...feature=related
http://www.youtube.c...feature=related

Ellis Wylie: YouTube channel, 6 videos: http://www.youtube.c...fluffystenseiga

Emily Vasquez: No performance videos, but she answers two interview questions at http://www.youtube.c...u/7/hN1x2c2m1O0

Hannah McIalwain: No performance videos, but she answers three interview questions at http://www.youtube.c...u/7/hN1x2c2m1O0

Lindsay Pearce: no YouTube channel, but there are several videos of her singing in groups and in musicals. As for videos where her singing is featured, there's a duet with a friend: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=0uVHNK0Oe3k and a short solo and longer dance from "Oklahoma!": http://www.youtube.c...feature=related

Marissa von Bleicken: solo audio track with photos: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=067Ju48IYnY ; she also answers three interview questions at http://www.youtube.c...u/7/hN1x2c2m1O0

Matheus Fernandes: YouTube channel, 10 videos: http://www.youtube.c...er/MattSinger16

McKynleigh Abraham: YouTube channel, 13 videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/mdcmaa

Samuel Larson: YouTube channel, 20 videos: http://www.youtube.c...srightisaidit51

Based on initial impressions, I'm rooting for Cameron. I think he has a lot of quiet charisma, there's something really compelling to me about his voice, and I've been gunning for a hipster kid on Glee. I also think Marissa has a lot of presence and she seems to fancy herself as a little bohemian, which is another type of character I'd like to see. But I could also see her going mean girl, and for some reason I can also picture her as a love interest for Santana (just assuming that will be coming next year). McKynleigh is the next most interesting to me, especially because I think her folky/country vocals would add something to the show.

The only ones who initially turn me off are Emily, Alex, and Matheus.

I'm sure I'll end up watching the show, but the concept is weird to me. I actually have no real objections to the idea of new cast members, but the idea of seeing so much of the actor ahead of time and then the character being written around them is strange to me. We'll see how it turns out.

Based on initial impressions and their YouTube videos, I think they all have good enough voices to keep up with some of the other current cast members on Glee.

That being said, personality-wise,

The Contestants that turn me off are: Alex, Emily, and Matheus (it's too bad, I want Glee to cast a really short guy with a great voice, but as of now it seems like he's trying too hard and seems a little creepy. I'll wait to see what happens though).

Contestants I'm rooting for:

- Lindsay (wonderful voice, I hope she can act because I could stare at those eyes on screen all day)
- Cameron (Glee needs a hipster with a smooth voice and relaxed personality)
- Marissa (she reminds me of a Bohemian version of Lindsay Lohan's character in "Mean Girls")
- Samuel (stands out from the rest of them, similar to Cameron but with a different kind of edge to him)

As for the rest of the contestants I didn't list: I liked all of their personalities and voices, I'm just going to wait and see what they can do.

This is what I'm curious about. I really don't know a lot technically speaking about singing, but I can imagine that they would all have the pipes if they got this far.

I truly watch Glee to be entertained, though, and charisma doesn't necessarily match up with technical prowess. I guess 'stage presence' should come through in their performances, but do we know much about how they're going to evaluate their acting skills? I don't need anyone to be able to carry a major dramatic arc. But to me, once you hit that baseline of being a strong singer, the singing actually becomes one of the least important elements IMO.

I agree. Charisma, comedic timing, and adequate dramatic acting skills are all going to be the main things I'm looking for when picking one or two of them to really root for once the show starts. If none of them possess those attributes when acting, then this whole competition is going to be painful to watch.

For some reason, I think I really want Cameron on Glee.

I have to say I like that none of the guys except maybe Bryce look like 'jock' types. Oh, and Bryce doesn't really strike me but he won major points with me for sharing two of my absolute favorite songs ("Semi Charmed Life" and a song by The Weakerthans). I agree that he looks very college student-y somehow, though.

Lindsay seems very strong and camera-ready but I'm failing to see her spark or her "hook" at this stage.

Samuel interests me but I'm not sure about his screen presence at this point. I dig Damian's voice but I'm also unsure on the charisma question on first impression.

Ellis looks so young I think I'd be really weirded out if they had her date anyone on the show. In general, some of the current cast admittedly looks pretty old but it makes those edgy moments in episodes or fans creeping on them less bothersome to me because they don't actually seem like teenagers (especially now that Chris Colfer is growing up).

I'm interested to see this thing get started, I'm really having trouble picturing how it will work. That Wall Street Journal blurb was actually surprisingly encouraging.

Here's an...interesting review of the first episode. There are some minor spoilers--like you can kind of extrapolate out who won the equivalent of Top Chef's "Quick Fire" between the article and the "Firework" video--but it's mostly just interesting descriptors of what some of the cast is like.

From the Chicago Sun-Times review:

Another singer, Emily, exudes sass and flirts with “Glee” cast member Darren Criss, giving off the vibe of Santana (Naya Rivera).

She does know he doesn't have any say over who finally gets cast, right?
