HBO just sent the list to the Emmys of categories placement:

http://www.goldderby...game-of-thrones

Wasn't sure where else to put this:

Game of Thrones"
Drama Series
Drama Actor: Sean Bean
Drama Actress: Lena Headey
Drama Supporting Actor: Mark Addy, Peter Dinklage, Nicolaj Coster-Waldau, Aiden Gillen, Kit Harington, Jason Momoa
Drama Supporting Actress: Emilia Clarke, Michelle Fairley

No Maisie Williams is a SHAME. Also I feel that Emilia Clarke would have done well in the Best Actress.

Yeah, the lack of Maisie Williams was surprising to me mostly because her performance was highly praised by all the critics and she was considered to be one of the stand-outs in the cast. Not that I think she would have been nominated anyway but still. Oh, well. I'm honestly unsure how the show would do well awards-wise because this show doesn't seem to be the Emmy's cup of tea but hey, True Blood gets nominated so GOT being on HBO is definitely an advantage.

It's been one episode, so I'm kind of loath to point out deserving award nominees/winners.

The only ones who really jumped to me in the pilot were Nicolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime) and Isaac Hempstead-Wright (Bran)

Masie Williams' absence from the list is mystifying. She ought to be up for Best Actress for Season 2.

I also think that Harry Lloyd should have been nominated, given that half a dozen others were. But it's early days yet.

Maisie Williams should be given the Emmy just for that glare at Joffrey.

I could easily see Peter Dinklage being nominated. Has there ever been a "little person" nominated for a major Emmy category before? Plus, he's legitimately awesome and playing the best character. At this point, I think he's the only one with much of a chance, but I'd wager he's got a pretty good one.

Is Jason Mamoa a joke?

Jason Momoa isn't a joke, but he is a model-turned-actor who gets cast in roles because of the physicality required, i.e. good looking, racially ambiguous, tall and physically imposing. He's 6'4" and ripped, and that's really what he was chosen for, but I think he's doing a surprisingly good job of getting things across without actually having many lines, and I hope that he gets a chance to stretch his legs a little once Dany becomes more fluent in Dothraki and they can actually communicate through something other than gesture. And fucking.

Not that that isn't all sorts of pleasant to watch, but still.

Momoa's performance in the next episode (and perhaps the one after that) may tell the tale. His great declaration that he would take his people across the sea was a powerful scene, and I'm not sure whether the fact that his speech was all in Dothraki helped or hurt his portrayal. Just the same, I don't think that his role has been as worthy of nomination as some of the others, and I suspect that at least one or two of the nominations were already agreed upon as part of casting contracts.

I originally thought that Dinklage would be a slam dunk for Supporting Actor, but I don't see any fabulous scenes coming up for Tyrion in what's left of the season; maybe his meeting with Tywin and Kevan? So much of the Imp's best stuff, with Catelyn and company along the road to the Vale, was abbreviated or omitted. Next year will be different, and the year after that should be even greater, and Dinklage should be up for Best Actor then, not Supporting.

Nicolaj Coster-Waldau and Mary Addy, to me, seem the most deserving for Supporting Actor. Addy was grand and brilliant, and it's hard to say no to him, but I think that I have to give it to NCW partly because it's a tougher role, though really it goes beyond that; this year, at least, he's the damned villian of the piece, yet every single time I see him I feel for him. When he shoves Bran out of the window, you can see him shake his head, at least in a metaphorical sense, about what he's just done. Amazingly, on the screen, totally opposite of the scene in the book, when he confronts Ned outside of the brothel, I felt more like rooting for Jaime Lannister than I did for Ned Stark, and that can only be due to the brilliant performance of Nicolaj Coster-Waldau. I really, really hope that the writers and producers can find some way to provide him a bigger role next season.

I agree that Maisie Williams not being on that list is a major mistake. She's fantastic.

I think of the supporting actors, Peter Dinklage, Nicolaj Coster-Waldau and Aiden Gillen have the best chances. Not sure if it's not one of those shows that will end up being mostly ignored by the Emmys.

Out of everyone, I think Peter Dinklage has the best shot of being nominated because his role is colorful, he's respected by other actors and he's gotten great notices. Also Emerson and O'Quinn from Lost are out of the competition this year so the category has some open slots. But I assume a lot of the Boardwalk Empire actors are going to land there as well.

Bean might get nominated if the Lead Actor race wasn't already a death match as it is. I assume Steve Buscemi will take Bryan Cranston's spot since Cranston isn't eligible this year. Hamm and Hall are probably locks. Laurie probably is since he has been nominated for almost every season of House even though this one took a drubbing.

As for the last spot, you've got Kyle Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Gabriel Byrne and William H. Macy competing as well. It's a pretty tough category.

I see that none of the child actors have been put up for nominations, probably because they are all acting novices.

Personally I hope Nikolaj Coster-Waldau gets a supporting actor nomination because he made Jaime so much more complex and sympathetic than he was at that point of the narrative. His performance makes me really look forward to seeing his book 3 and 4 story lines played out on the TV show. If we get that far.

All of this hoping is probably moot though as the Emmys never give mayor awards to a genre show like GOT.

I suspect that by the second or third season they might feel a little differently about awarding GoT. I mean, LotR won Best Picture, and GoT has a LOT more in common with LotR than it does with similarly themed "genre" TV.

As nice as it would be, we really shouldn't expect GoT to do well at the Emmy, except for some technical awards. Sean Bean might be possible, since he's a big name, but Ned's not a very flashy role, even though he's well acted.

For one thing, actors are nominated based on a specific episode or two, which are sent to the voters for their consideration. Series like this, where there's loads of actors doing great jobs, but only for a few minutes per episode, tend to get underrepresented. Especially when it's a series that really requires you to start from the beginning to understand what's going on. And network shows tend to get way over-represented, despite most quality TV, and almost all the quality dramas being on cable now. Season 1 of the Sopranos lost to The Practice. The Wire never even got nominated. Ian McShane from Deadwood lost best drama actor to James Spader from Boston Legal. Etc, etc...

I also think the fact that HBO has Boardwalk Empire to push is going to put dent in GoT chances for the acting/ series prizes. I think keeping Martin Scorsese and Terrence Winters happy might be higher on their list of awards priorities. Just Scorsese's name alone is probably going to get Boardwalk more nominations.

I assume that GoT will do really well in the tech categories, but Boardwalk is going to do well there too just in terms of art direction, costume and set design.

Tim Van Patten (who worked on both shows) probably won't be left out in the cold though.

It better at least get nominated for Best Title Credits. And it's my choice to win, unless there are better out there that I'm not just aware of.

Acting wise, I'd like to see some, but I'm not sure. If I had to guess, I do think Peter Dinklage has the best shot, since the supporting actor category seems more open, and he is playing a more flashy character, plus he has some name recognition. I'd like to see Nikolaj Coster-Waldau get a nod, but I don't he will. And I think Sean Bean's chances will be hard because the category has tough competition, plus his character is very quite and probably isn't flashy enough to get most voters' interest.

Of course, I given up on trying to figure voters out. They could shut it out or they could shower it with a ton of nominations.

If Peter Dinklage gets ep 6 submitted, I think he should do alright. Tyrion literally escapes from a likely death sentence with only his wits! Fine stuff.

Actually thinking about it Dinklage really might be a contender. Not only is Tyrion a bit flashier than most of the characters, but his personal story is a lot sexier and the Emmy's just LOVE to be able to pat themselves on the back for choosing an actor.

GoT nominated in Critic Choice Awards.

Considering how soon they are airing, June 20, it seems that GoT was a last minute add in, and none of the fantastic actors in GoT were considered.

Happy the show was nominated, bewildered by lack of acting nods.

The Critics' Choice Television Awards
The following dates apply for the first CRITICS' CHOICE TELEVISION AWARDS, honoring the finest achievement among programs airing between June 1, 2010 and May 31, 2011.

May 1, 2011 Nominating Committees begin consideration
June 1, 2011 Nominating Committees render recommendations
June 6, 2011 Critics' Choice Television Awards nominees announced
June 14, 2011 Final ballots go out to the BTJA members
June 16, 2011 Deadline for returning final ballots

Well a little searching show that the timing of these awards is just unfortunate with respect to GoT. I guess that the meatier episodes of s1GoT would be eligble next year.

As much of a pessimist as I was a while ago, apparently Baelor is one of the main episodes they sent into voters for the awards, and that -was- a damn good episode. And fairly easy to understand, as well. GoT might actually do okay for itself - though still probably not at the Emmys.

The Emmy nominations will be announced soon. I will be pleasantly surprised if GoT gets some very deserved major noms. I guess its major competition will be Boardwalk Empire plus the usual nominees. The fantasy factor will be the biggest obstacle but I guess we'll find out soon enough!

ETA: got my dates wrong!

A shame that - I thought Bean at least had a good chance of being nominated, and it would have been nice for the stellar acting to have more than one nomination to stand on (some other deserving shows missed out on single nominations to carry the torch for their shows sadly); I remain baffled at some of the Emmy choices, but we all expect that I think, and I fear I am biased, as many of the shows with enormous numbers of nominations I can see are apparently fantastic, but just never interest me in the slightest when I watch them. Maybe next year GoT will get more nominations (and thus a chance of an actual win - outside of title design, which as Impi says has to be a lock)
