Although I've never read the books, if the first episode is any indication, the show's dialogue is as lush as the novels themselves. Some of my favorites:

King Robert to Ned: "Don't be so fucking grim."

Tyrion: "All dwarves are bastards to their fathers."

Ned to Lannister, about why he doesn't fight in tournaments anymore: "When I fight a man, I don't want him to see what I can do."

Lannister to Bran, before pushing him out the window: "The things I do for love." Like incest and child-killing, for example?

Another great line is "Winter is coming," which could mean any number of things: the season itself, war, death-or all of the above.

Proclaim your choices for the best Game Of Thrones quotes here-in the "common tongue," that is.

One of my favourite lines in the series, which should make an appearance in season 2 (fingers crossed!):

This one is another of my favourites.

It seems like the Lannisters got most of the best lines in this first episode. Which I guess makes sense, what with them being a fairly erudite and urbane lot.

Mostly because it's a bit over the top, but it's getting meme like repetition by my friends who haven't read the books.

Here are two lines where Cersei gives advice to Prince Joffrey:

About Marriage/adultery:

"If you want to fuck painted whores, then fuck painted whores."

About politics:

"Everyone who isn't us is an enemy."

More proof that, to put it mildly, Cersei's not exactly Mother Of the Year material.

Robert: They never tell you how they all shit themselves. They don't put that part in the songs.

Robert in episode 3 talking somewhat nostalgically about his first battle, as well as handily demonstrating something about the series (book and it seems tv show) which belies his words - they will not sugarcoat the horribleness of war, in all its disgusting truth, while still showing how people find and seek glory in that very real and terrible manner; they probably will show us how the killed all shit themselves, or near enough at any rate.

The whole of Old Nan's speech could be included here. It gave me chills, even though I'd already heard much of it so many times, from those teaser trailers. Perfectly delivered. But especially this bit:

"Oh my sweet summer child, what do you know about fear?"

And I really liked this one:

Maester Aemon: "Starks are always right eventually. Winter is coming."

I liked this one, too. It was nice to have a brief bit of comic relief and it didn't really seem corny when it was delivered.

That whole conversation between Tyrion, Yoren, and later Benjen in Ep3 was truly fantastic...

Tyrion: "And how do a bear's balls taste?"
Yoren: "A bit chewey!"
Yoren: "And how about you my lord? What's the strangest thing you've eaten?"
Tyrion: "Do Dornish girls count?"

Benjen: "... They die in pain and they do it so plump little lords like can enjoy their summer afternoons in peace and comfort"
Tyrion to Yoren: "Do you think I'm plump?"

And on a more serious note....
