In the first episode, both Michael AND Janet were mentioned. Second episode, Jackson family was mentioned. I'm surprised this didn't come out with Afro wigs on. Sheesh.

Interesting fact: she is the only Jackson to not have a gold record. And that's not for trying, either. Rebbie "Centipede" Jackson has a gold record, but La Toya doesn't. Ouch.

La Toya seems to be a sweet woman, but I don't think she has the heart for this game - tears in just the second episode! - and certainly not the brains.

Go online and search for footage of her on the UK's version of Big Brother. Really, you get the impression of a pretty sad, pretty messed up woman. There are dribs and drabs which really yank the pity out of you, but she's also clearly a sweet woman in many ways, as you say. Between big old bad Joe Jackson, and her ex-husband, the world has really done a number on her.

Exactly and I scream at the tv every episode they introduce her as a "singing legend". Her brother Michael was and in some respects Janet is, but LaToya, hell no!

My mistake, "entertainment icon".

That's why I laugh at NeNe Leakes trying to take La Toya down. Girl, this woman has stood toe-to-toe with Joe Jackson AND Jack Gordon. Sitcho ass down, NeNe.

FOR REAL. I hope Latoya, in her squeaky little bunny voice, politely reminds Nene of the nothing that she is,and all that loud, ignorant hot air thats releasing from her mouth doesn't faze Toya cause shes heard it all before.

I know Latoya is the least talented and one of the more famewhorey of all the Jacksons (2nd only to Jermaine IMO) but I do feel sorry for her with all shes been through. I hope that she shows to be stronger than a lot of people give her credit for gets farther then everyone expects. Especially farther then reality garbage Nene Leakes.

If La Toya can play this game like she can take a taser, NeNe is going to be shit outta luck.

True. Although after a team swap or two, if she winds up on the same team as that @hit stain on humanity, Jose Canseco, with his two domestic violence "incidents", it might bring back some bad memories for her (of the two previous men she's faced in her life who used their fists to solve problems).

This is just my own ignorance (and laziness in looking it up) but has LaToya ever put out a single or album of her own?

I was trying to think if she had and the only song that will pop in my head is "Cenetipide"- but that was Rebe wasn't it? And everytime I imagine LaTyoa in a music video- it was one of Michael's. So if LaToya ever put out a song I can't for the life of me remember it. (Not counting singing along in We are the World) Does anyone else know/ remember?

Ooh, let me be snarky for a minute: Let me Google that for you.

Turns out yes, she has a few. And sorry for the snark; I never get the chance to use that site and I love it.

This is arguably her most successful single/album. I remember it quite well. We used to sing it in high school.

Wow. I would've thought You're Gonna Get Rocked! would've done better than that, especially with such amazing lyrics as "gonna sock you in the heart/and leave a scar".

For those who don't know, Musical Youth and Howard Hewett (of Shalamar) were HUGE back then (along with Jimmy Cliff, who did Reggae Nights), so when Hearts Don't Lie only made it to #56, the writing should've been on the wall then. A lot of people make the mistake of comparing La Toya to Janet, suggesting that the two are interchangeable and Janet basically "lucked up" into success. Some of the more serious Church of La Toya members even say that the What Have You Done for Me Lately is a ripoff of Heart Don't Lie. But come on...look at the two videos. La Toya, for some reason, was just lacking in the "it" department, and I can't quite figure out why, especially since she had so much help in the beginning. Around that time, La Toya was also the spokesperson for Nikon and Mahogany Image (a cosmetic line for women of color) and had a fashion line (David Laurenz for La Toya). Janet, on the other hand, was "damaged goods" from the get-go - a chubby-faced 19-year-old divorcee who breaks from the family compound and takes off for Minneapolis isn't going to be a fresh-faced lipstick model and sporting her own headbands. I don't want to say "complete and utter lack of even a trace of talent" as the reason behind La Toya's overall entertainment fail, but it's kind of hard not to.

On that note, it's the main reason why I find myself rooting for her, despite all. I honestly do believe that a lot of the shit she got herself into in the 1990s was due to Jack Gordon (although I'm sure a good deal of it to do with her chasing stardom). The fact that her family seems to have accepted her back into the fold despite everything she did to tear them down speaks volumes, IMO. I'm glad that she's getting a good edit on this show; we see this week that she's hardly some empty-headed doll, and her showdown with NeNe seems to make her look like she won't be pushed around. Even if it's nothing but "Trump's flunkie", I just want to see her succeed in something.

Wow, I checked out all the links to her songs and none of them sound even a little familiar to me. I completely missed out on LaToya's singing career. Which is odd, because I did own a couple of Jermaine's singles back in the day (and of course Thriller- though I guess everyone had Thriller) and it seems LaToya was putting out her stuff at the same time Jermaine was- but I never heard it. I had no LaToya Radar whatsoever! LOL! I only remember her being the wacky sister with the headbands- and then I think she posed for playboy with a snake or something and there was some murmuring about that, but that's all I remember about her.

All that said, she may be a surprise one to go far. I was thinking that it would be Niki and Hope who would be underestimated and fly under the radar until it was their time to shine- but they've already proved me wrong (I'm thinking LaToya- for all her quirks- at least knows what Century she's living in)

She almost locked herself out of the RV bathroom- but then turned around and knew more about the Camping World products than anyone on her team and even some of the guy's top sales people. Folks will disregard her because of her silly little girl act- but she does have a brain under that giant hair. That may be the key to her beating out a lot of this competition. Play dumb to Star, let Star think she's had to take over the task again, but then whip out the smarts in the boardroom and charm the Trump into keeping her and firing Star. Could go down that way.

Then again, she did get all giggly and want to go shopping at the wrong store with Dionne- so maybe not.

IIRC, her Playboy pictorials (there were two) are the highest selling in the history of the magazine. I believe she was also one of the first to have a Playboy celebrity video. It figures that THAT would be the one thing she was so successful in.

You said in a recent interview that we are going to see the Joe Jackson come out of you during Celebrity Apprentice. How do you think Joe Jackson would react to Star Jones?
He would immediately shut her down and put her in her place. I put as much Joe Jackson as I could in there, but it’s the strength that he has and how he protects his children. People don’t understand that and they take it the wrong way. That’s why we are where we are today—because of my father.

Wikipedia says it best...

Eight of the nine Jackson siblings (excluding La Toya) have gold records to their credits

Perhaps that was added by a snarky Twoper 'cuz that is hilarious.

LaToya's my favorite of the women: Hands down. I was very skeptical at first but she proved herself to me this week and defending herself against NeNe. Keeping time might appear to be simple, but she owned the task. If A.S.A.P. had gotten off of schedule, she would have been thrown under the bus.

Anyone that cares enough about what they're learning and doing to write and take notes (see the camping task) wins in my book. I hopes she makes it to the end.

She's got that same fragile, gentle quality her brother did. I don't think she's a MENSA member, but she's certainly got something about her. I feel the same way about her that I do about Busey. They bring out a protective instinct in me. Only she's not scary like Busey can be.

Agreed.

Doubtful. But hey, ya never know. And from what we've seen so far it won't be from lack of trying on her part. She might not have the same skillz set as some of her competitors, but she isn't lazy or a skaterby (*cough cough Hope*)

I'm guessing for some of the guys, the gold records belong to The Jacksons or The Jackson Five. It doesn't say solo gold records, right?

Correct. IIRC, Michael, Janet, Jermaine (who is very underrated as a singer) and Rebbie are solo gold Jacksons. But I'm willing to give the brothers a pass on general principle because they are/were all insanely talented. It's sad that they're known as little more than Michael's backup band when the Jackson brothers performed together for well over 20 years before Michael finally broke camp.

I liked that La Toya was so gungho about being PM, even though it did make more sense for Marlee to do it this time. I hope they revisit it next challenge and have her as PM, even though it looks like things are going bad again lol. I just love La Toya on this show. She's making me a proud Toy Soldier. Reminds me of the little engine that could.

I've noticed that she has a tendency to over-answer questions -- what some think of as the pageant response of repeating part (or all) of a question, eg--

Q-La Toya, how do you think you did?

A-How I think we did, Mr Trump, is very interesting. I think we did ...

-- and on and on.

Did LaToya receive any kind of marginal education? There's something so dim about her.

After seeing the trailer for next week (where Nene comments on La Toya's complexion) I pulled up the old McCartney-Jackson 'Say Say Say' video on You Tube. La Toya is so pretty in that vid (looks like only 1 nose job at that point). Why did she turn herself into such a caricature?

I think that the plastic surgeon must have given them them a family discount. They all have triangular-shaped nostrils, not unlike drawings of aliens. Hissyfit, you are right about the self-loathing. Michael spoke of hating his nose and being made fun of by his brothers. LaToya does come off as dim. Does anyone know of her educational background?

Apparently, LaToya is more educated than she appears to be. Could have fooled me!

This is from Wikipedia.

"Jackson aspired to be an attorney specializing in business law. She attended college for a short time before her father insisted that she pursue a career in show business like the rest of the family."
