TWoP Roxy said to start a separate thread for this, so here we are. And, since there doesn't seem to be an official title for the project yet, I thought this title would be better than "Untitled..." something or other.

Here's a blurb from a November 2010 press release (thefutoncritic.com) which summarizes the project:

Jeffrey Donovan is set to direct the upcoming BURN NOTICE MOVIE starring Bruce Campbell. Shooting will begin in January on location in Bogota, Columbia. The two-hour movie will air on USA Network in Spring 2011.

The prequel, set in late 2005, begins after a faction of Colombian rebels makes trouble for the locally stationed military platoon, with Lieutenant Commander Sam Axe (Campbell) being sent down to advise. As the mission unfolds, Sam begins to uncover the dark secrets of the area, learning the truth about sacrifice, deception, and ultimately what's worth fighting for.

BURN NOTICE creator Matt Nix will write and executive produce. Donovan and Campbell will also serve as executive producers on the Fox Television Studios project alongside Mikkel Bondesen ("Burn Notice").

New intel:

TVLine.com has some casting news:
  • Chandra West "will play Donna, a sexy and fun woman Sam has recently started seeing"
  • RonReaco Lee is a doc "who runs a non-profit clinic"
  • Kiele Sanchez "plays a humanitarian with a food relief effort" (Sanchez is a series regular on A&E's The Glades, which also films in Florida)
  • John Diehl will be "Rear Admiral Lawrence," Sam's higher up (Diehl was Zito on Miami Vice, among many other roles)
FYI: the TVLine.com article has links to the actors' IMDb profile.

A quick search is coming up blank: Has there been any (semi-)formal confirmation of the BN regulars who won't be in this? I know it just focuses on Sam for the main plot, but I'm curious if there's going to be any framing device -- say Sam opening up to Michael or Maddie over a mojito. Donovan is the only other regular that I know for sure is down in Columbia, and since he is the face of BN, he would be the most likely option.

The movie is now in production down in Columbia, and one of the producers on the movie (Aaron Goldberg) has a Tumblr blog where he's been posting photos and notes. It looks to be safe for spoilerphobes, so far, as I didn't see any specific plot-related details.

And, we have a real title: "Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe" (USA press release via thefutoncritic.com).

The press release states that the movie will debut sometime in April.

It has been semi-confirmed. We have a whole thread on the prequel on the USA forum, which includes casting notes and a plot description. They started filming on January 24 and go until February 18. I believe it is almost all to be set in Colombia. Not sure if they show Sam ending up in Miami or not. I think the story is told in retrospect as Sam is debriefed afterward. And I have seen rumors about a Jeffrey Donovan cameo, but that has not been confirmed. Gabrielle Anwar is working on a LMN movie, so she's not in it, for sure.

I do recommend Aaron Ginsburg's Tumblr blog and following him on Twitter @DrLawyercop. Interesting, funny, and safe for spoilerphobes.
