So we have an Oscar party thread, so it's only fair we (dis)honor the worst movies of the year. Complete list of nominees here.

Anyone that was left off that shouldn't have been? I'm all for Last Airbender being on there. The few minutes I've seen of it online more than convince me of that. Not sure of Twilight though. It's not my cup of tea, but I'm sure it's not one of the worst of the year.

Is it fair/right/weird to have a movie AND the parody of said movie nominated in the same categories? (Eclipse and Vampires Suck) I thought that was odd. The Razzies have had better years. And why the shut out Furry Vengeance?

I'm suspecting Last Airbender is going to sweep the whole thing, and I'm perfectly fine with that. One of the few movies where I'm completely comfortable saying that there is no possible reaction but to hate it, and if you like it at all, there's something wrong with you.

I know I'm a twifan so my opinion might not count but in Rotten Tomatoes this was the one that got more positive approval (50% at least) no to mention that even people that hated the other two considered this one decent. I'm not surprised it got nominated because Razzies are about making noise and pandering to their demographics. But David Slade didn't deserved the worst director. The man had a lot of credit before with other movies so nominating him was a total shocker and very unfair for me. But again he might actually go, he seem to type to enjoy the sense of humor of the awards.

As far as Twilight goes, I absolutely believe that they were right to nominate Pattinson, Stewart, and Lautner for their wooden and constipated performances in the acting categories. The best way to watch those movies is with the Rifftrax on. I agree with The Last Airbender noms as well.

Since Hollywood has disappointed me too many times in recent years I haven't seen most of the films on this list but....

The Last Airbender

Definitely one of the worst movies of the year! My neice and I are fans of the animated series and we couldn't wait for the movie version, until M. Night ruined it beyond recognition! The mispronunciation of names (among other noticible changes to the show's canon) was extremely distracting and the wooden performances of Jackson Rathbone and Nicola Peltz had me expecting them to grow branches! The noms were all deserved!

Vampires Suck

My neice is a Twihard so she begged me to take her to this movie. I had a passing interest in the material the movie was meant to spoof, but last I checked spoofs are supposed to be funny. This one missed the mark completely - but since it comes from the drug addled minds who brought us Disaster Movie (among other sub par genre spoofs) I didn't go in expecting much. I couldn't get out of the theatre fast enough once the end credits rolled!

Meagan Fox

She totally deserved her nom! She sucks the life out of all the films she's ever in!! She may be pretty ("Sex on a stick" as someone I know once referred to her) but the girl cannot act! She's pretty much fallen off the radar anyway since Hex bombed so maybe she should get the sympathy prize since she'll never find work in a mainstream film again.

And why the shut out Furry Vengeance?

Agreed! The premise alone was stupid (not to mention the ridiculous environmental "message" it was supposed to support) and poor Brendan Fraser (whom I actually like as an actor) is really making bad career choices lately. I get the feeling he's just in it for the paychecks now.

Speaking of shut outs, what about The Human Centipede?? The very premise should have earned it a few spots. Or is it that this film wasn't widely seen outside of a few art houses?

Yeah I think they focus mainly on the "bigger they are, the harder they fall" concept. So smaller movies get a pass. It's how I explain a movie like Skyline not getting nominated. Every review I've read has a "so bad, it's bad" tone to it.

I'm surprised neither Angelina or Johnny got nominated for The Tourist. Seems like a movie ripe for this kind of award as well.

This was not a good year for the Razzies. It seemed like they stayed far away from any major superstars and "important" directors and just went for the cheap shots. Not a single nomination for Alice in Wonderland? Oh, that's because Tim Burton is an auteur, not some hack like Friedberg/Seltzer. Johnny Depp hits a career double-low (Alice and The Tourist) in one year and they look elsewhere, because why pick on poor ol' Johnny Depp when you can "honor" Ashton Kutcher and Gerard Butler? Because it's not like anyone has ever called them shitty actors before. And never mind that Cher and Jessica Alba (The Killer Inside Me) were actually good in their respective movies. They're easy targets, so put their names up there.

Lame.

I disagree with her being up for The Killer Inside Me but they actually nominated Jessica Alba for every movie she was in this year(4) which was a bit mean even for me. I agree she wasn't that great in in Valentine's Day but nobody was great in Valentine's Day. Where's Bradley Cooper's nomination?

I am surprised that there is no recognition for Cop Out. It looked aweful and I was talking about worst movies of the year with a friend of mine yesterday and he said it was the worst movie he has seen in a long time.

I agree that the Eclipse director shouldn't have been nominated. In fact, all three directors so far have clearly been trying to do good work; it's just that you can't save Stephanie Myers' writing.

Eclipse was easily the best of the three films so far, but that's grading on one hell of a curve and there's still no way it can be considered anything approaching a good movie. It mostly just made me wish the series was all about Jasper and Rosalie, as the reveal of their backstories instantly made them far more compelling characters than Bella and Edward could ever hope to be.

Totally forgot that. Maybe they went for people that might actually go? Also all this got a lot of internet buzz, for how bad they were so maybe they want more people clicking on their website. I think I only heard how bad the tourist was for a day or two while SATC2 and Last Airbender had months of people complaining, hating and mocking.

They need to call it the Ed Wood Award for a Lifetime of mediocrity. And its too early the guy has the sixth sense and Unbreakable under his belt that buys him at least 5 more movies before calling it a Lifetime, IMO.

Razzies this year:

Worst Picture: The Last Airbender

Worst Director: M. Night Shyamalan, The Last Airbender

Worst Actor: Ashton Kutcher, Killers and Valentine’s Day

Worst Actress: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon, Sex and the City 2

Worst Supporting Actor: Jackson Rathbone, The Last Airbender and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Worst Supporting Actress: Jessica Alba, The Killer Inside Me, Little Fockers, Machete, and Valentine’s Day

Worst Eye-Gouging Misuse of 3-D: The Last Airbender

Worst Screen Couple / Worst Screen Ensemble: The entire cast of Sex and the City 2

Worst Screenplay: M. Night Shyamalan, The Last Airbender

Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel: Sex and the City 2

Basically, The Last Airbender dominated, followed by Sex and the City 2. Ashton Kutcher and Jessica Alba also "won" their respected categories. Surprisingly, Megan Fox once again managed not to win. Granted, it took all four of the Sex and the City actresses to beat her...

And, sadly no one pulled a Sandra Bullock and showed up.

No no, Halle did it first. :P

I'm glad they at least didn't feel the need to "award" Twilight anything. Those noms felt more like getting on the bashing bandwagon.

Well, pooh. Razzie awards moved to April 1st. But the nominations will be announced the day before the Oscars.

I guess I get what they're going for, but April is just so far away from awards season. I liked the previous scheduling better. Plus I think there will be even less of a chance of people actually showing up to accept.

Nominations are out, and I'm slightly disappointed. There were obviously a handful of films they wanted to bash as much as possible, and they nominated Sarah Palin for her role in a documentary.

Judging from the majority of the nominations, it looks like this year it was all about going after Adam Sandler and those associated with any of his film.

Kind of a cheap shot if you ask me. If they had wanted to pin the movie as worst documentary, then it'd be a bit more fair.

Bucky Larson seems to have been nominated for nearly every catagory, so I wouldn't count it out. The premise alone deserves a Razzie!

BTW, can you nominate a guy for an award meant for a female? I find it odd they chose to nominate Martin Lawrence and Brandon T. Jackson for Worst Actress & Supporting Actress for Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son.

They've been doing this more and more over the years, and I have to say, I find it a bit distasteful. An actor in a dress is not the same thing as an actress. I know, I'm taking the whole thing too seriously, but it gives the whole thing an icky undertone. And really, is what they're doing so different than what those movies are doing? "Guys, we nominated a bunch of actors in dresses as actresses. Get it? Because they're dudes! It's funny!"

It makes me think that the guy who runs the organization is the type of guy whose go-to insult is to call something "gay."

I'm really glad that Twilight is over this year, just so the Razzies will have to move on and maybe be a little more creative in coming up with nominees in the future. That series is low-hanging fruit by this point.

Also, I know that The Raven wasn't a high-profile media punching bag and therefore wasn't worth recognizing, but it deserves multiple nominations here due to sheer lack of quality.

That doesn't mean that it's going to happen, and in any case, my point is that the Razzies aren't going to just be able to keep listing Twilight-related properties from now until the end of eternity in order to spite the annoying teenage girls. They might actually have to watch some other movies in order to come up with a list.
