I so wanted to subtitle the thread: SAMCRO Hauls Ass for FX, but that would technically be plagiarism. Therefore, suggest the pithy subtitles. I got nothing.

Here's the ratings scoop, courtesy of an article from MediaWeek entitled, wait for it, Sons of Anarchy Hauls Ass for FX. Sons of Anarchy did great in the ratings. There was 4.13 million total viewers.

Per Nielsen live-plus-same-day ratings data, the Sons premiere now stands as the most-watched cable scripted series telecast of 2010 among the coveted TV demo, drawing 2.81 million viewers 18-49.

The funniest thing is that I forgot about the premier, but saw a commercial for it during Covert Affairs on USA. The ad was literally "SOA is on FX right now!" So I did tune in for a bit of the premier.

I snagged the final ratings from TravisYanan at PIFeedback for 9/14/2010.

Sons of Anarchy (63 minutes)
- 3.368 million viewers
- 2.1/4 HH
- 1.8/5 A18-49

To compare, here are the final ratings from 9/7/2010, also from PIFeedback.

Sons of Anarchy (10pm, 73 minutes)
- 4.134 million viewers
- 2.5/4 HH
- 2.1/6 A18-49

The ratings definitely went down from the season premiere. However, it beat Covert Affairs on USA in the demo. Covert Affairs only received a 1.4/4 in Adults 18-49. Even though Covert Affairs had more total viewers: 5.233 million, Sons of Anarchy still did considerably better in the coveted 18-49 demo.

How about subtitling this thread: Watch or Gemma Brings Out the Skateboard?

3.3 million is pretty much on par with what last seasons episodes were averaging (ditto the 18-49 number), barring the season opener and the finale which were over 4 million I believe.

Still too early for a premiere date for Season 4?

I have seen September mentioned in a couple of articles, but no specific date. I haven’t been able to find an official announcement that it will be September, so I don’t know how much credence to place in that.

We finally have a start date! From TV Guide:

The supersized Sons, which will jump the story ahead 14 months, bows Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 10/9c. The 13-episode fourth season follows Jax (Charlie Hunnam), Clay (Ron Perlman) and the rest of the club as they return home from jail to find that SAMCRO doesn't necessarily run the show in Charming in anymore.

It’s "supersized" because it will be a ninety-minute episode.

Not surprised at all. SOA seems to be the anchor show on FX. I mean, what else do they have - Louie, Archer, Wilfred. Justfied is the only other decent on and Rescue Me is finished.

Somewhere Sutter is twirling his gloating mustache while preparing to tweet obscenities to the nayayers. He's still not gonna get an emmy

I'm not surprised either considering it's FX highest rated show by far. Not it's best quality wise anymore (thank Justified and Archer for that) but that's only my opinion.

I hope he doesn't get an Emmy just to annoy him. Also, I have new rule...every time Kurt Sutter goes and throws a temper tantrum on Twitter or anywhere else, the show loses a little more respect in my eyes and goes down a spot in my personal "best of" list of shows.

Sutter's twitter tantrums entertain me to no end, and don't affect my enjoyment of the show at all.

David Simon's a colossal blowhard but that doesn't mean The Wire was any less brilliant.

According to Sutter's Twitter, tonight's premiere is 90 minutes. Set your DVRs accordingly.

Not sure if this is the place, but does anyone know if the episodes will be available on iTunes this season?

I was wondering the same thing about Amazon. I haven't been able to find it there or iTunes. I watched the last season from Amazon and would gladly pay to do the same again. Can't always watch it live but don't want to miss it.

Doesn't FX sometimes delay online or iTunes viewing for six or seven days? It seems to me that I couldn't watch Rescue Me online until the day a new episode aired.

The ratings were excellent. From HitFix:

Tuesday (September 11) night's dramatic fifth season premiere of "Sons of Anarchy" set series highs for FX in most measures and may set overall records for the cable network.

Per FX, the "Sons of Anarchy" premiere averaged 5.37 million viewers, up by 10 percent over the record-setting fourth season launch of the motorcycle drama. "Sons of Anarchy" was up 9 percent among adults 18-49 with 3.5 million viewers and 14 percent among adults 25 to 54 with 3.45 million viewers.

Kurt Sutter had posted on his blog (post is now gone) that Apple wanted FX to take off the ID from the show. FX doesn't want to, so it looks like there won't be any new FX shows on iTunes anytime soon.

The new episode is on Amazon instant though.

Thanks. I didn't see it before, but I do now. It didn't come up anywhere near the top when I searched so I missed it earlier.

Thanks for the Amazon instant tip! I was on vacation this week and watched last evening, so I'm still not sure how quickly they appear there. Would they normally be up the morning after they air?

I assumed that meant an onscreen FX logo in a bottom corner of the video.

The episodes for S5 that you can download from Amazon start out with a brief "FX" intro - like a 15 sec ad for the network. I don't remember it from previous seasons, but that may have been the issue with iTunes.

It's strange because I've purchased episodes of Justified and Louie (just a few weeks ago!) from iTunes and neither of them have the FX logo in the bottom corner. So why are they making a big deal about it now?

I don't disagree with FX. It's branding 101. iTunes didn't create the show, FX did.

I guess they worked it out, because it's on iTunes now.
