Shake It Up is an upcoming show from Disney Channel. Its about 2 best friends, Ce Ce Jones & Rocky Blue (starring Bella Thorne & Zendaya Coleman) whose dreams of becoming professional dancers came true when they (thanks to their longtime friend, Deuce (played by Adam Irigoyen)) become background dancers on the most popular teen dancing show, Shake It Up Chicago. It'll show their trials & tribulations as Ce Ce & Rocky deal with their new-found fame. Roshon Fegan (Camp Rock) will also be on this show. It will air on Disney Channel in the Fall.

Here is some information & pictures about Shake It Up.

Hmm.... so Sonny with a Chance with dancing? I see how it is.

It bothers me how skinny(And young!) these kids look. Especially if they'll be used by the Mouse House for a good 3 or 4 years. Yikes.

I couldn't tell if there's a laugh track or not. I'm 99% positive there is, but can anyone confirm it? I'm also disappointed that Disney is going back to 'famous fish out of water'-esque shows again, after Good Luck Charlie.

Do you remember how people were complaining that Camp Rock was basically High School Musical, but Disney pushed it too hard? I have a feeling Shake it Up is gonna be the DCOS version of that, with Hannah Montana being High School Musical.

The first episode aired tonight, and it was...silly. Not really bad, not really good, but definitely silly--and skewing a bit younger than just about the entire DC lineup right now, almost into The Suite Life of Zack & Cody territory. That said, I'm kind of disappointed they didn't have R. Brandon Johnson resurrect his Hannah Montana character of Brian Winters as the host of Shake It Up Chicago; I mean, hey, every other DC show except Good Luck Charlie exists in the same universe...

The guy with the nasty eyebrows should be the first contestant eliminated.
The foreign exchange student would be amazing gay-storyline for this show.
The two bffs can start talking smack about each others backs.
The black (?) kid *WILL* be the first one killed off

Yes, I can totally see this show going totally Degrassi or 90210.

ANYWAYS, decent, I guess...subsititue for Hannah Montana, anyway...

The first episode got 6.2 Million viewers.

I thought the show was somewhat tolerable. But, the concept of them dancing every episode is going to get old real fast.

Besides, other than Flynn and Gunther & Tinka, there wasn't much to laugh about. Already, its feeling like Rocky & Ce Ce are trying too hard. Hopefully, it'll start to get better soon. It can't get as worse as those horrible So Random sketches.

I'm not surprised at the ratings, considering the first episode had a massive lead-in via a heavily-promoted episode of Hannah Montana. This upcoming weekend's airing will be a better (somewhat) gauge, I imagine, with what is currently the normal Sunday night lineup before it.

....other than Flynn and Gunther & Tinka, there wasn't much to laugh about. Already, its feeling like Rocky & Ce Ce are trying too hard.

I think that's my one beef with that first ep: nobody really seemed comfortable in it, at least for the most part, except for the adults and Kenyon Duty (Gunther). Maybe that was just first-episode weirdness, though; it happens...

Episode 2 got around 4 Million viewers.

Other than Flynn, Gunther, & Tinka bringing in the funny, the 2nd episode was very average. I'm still not warmed up to Rocky & Ce Ce. Both of them are not as charming or amusing to watch like Flynn, Gunther, & Tinka and seeing them trying too hard to be funny & likable is starting to annoy me.

So far, I'm not feeling Bella Thorne. I don't like her being Teeny on Big Love & I'm not exactly enjoying her overacting on Shake It Up. Here is another example of her bad acting.

Both Bella and Zendaya have struck me as being overly theatrical, so to speak--probably more so in the first episode than in this one, but it was still plenty evident in spots. (I'm not going to knock that this early in the show, however. After years of watching soap operas, it's pretty darn low-key by comparison.) That aside it was a nice straightforward bit of fluff, though again Gunther and Tinka were the most comfortable-seeming characters in the place (Davis Franklin, who plays Flynn, seemed a bit more comfortable and toned-down here as well).

This is a cute show, probably something I won't go out of my way of seeing though. While I agree the leads are overly theatrical, they're still pretty decent, especially with the facial expressions. Oh and one complaint: Can these girls just wear some shirts and some pants? I mean, they're entirely too over-accessorized and dressed to be real.

I've only watched bits and pieces of the two eps that have aired so far, but this was really noticeable to me with the actress playing Rocky. Her expressions are so exaggerated it's distracting. There was this one scene in episode one where she did this scared/pouty expression. And I thought, "Okay, that's not too bad." Then she just had to go and scrunch her face up some more, to make sure we knew she was scared/pouty, which just took it over the top. And not in a good way.

But I'm sure it's something that will smooth over with both actresses as the show goes along. I just caught some of an early ep of Hannah Montana, and it's amazing how much Miley and Emily improved after that.

As for the show itself, the first two eps haven't been able to hold my attention. But what I've seen doesn't seem terrible. And the theme song is kind of catchy.

I only saw the one episode and the show's not my speed, but it's not horrible either. I kind of got a kick out of the fact the girls were so exicted to earn $40. Don't get me wrong in that at that age they should be happy with $40 bucks but in this day and age that's nothing to a lot of kids. Some get that for a night of babysitting practically.

I'm not going to judge the cast too much for not being settled into their roles in only two epsiodes. That's fairly normal in general, for adults, let alone a bunch of kids. The leads are a tad too theatrical, but again, not uncommon for Disney and likely they'll settle down after a bit.

I could see this show being a hit with young girls though. Especially with Miley and co. on their way out.

I just discovered Selena Gomez sings the theme song for this show, which took me by surprise. All the times I've heard it in promos and such the last couple months, I never once thought, "Hey, that's Selena Gomez!" In fact, when I first saw it mentioned, I thought, "No it isn't!" But Google assures me that it's her.

I thought that sounded like her voice when my son was watching the show the other day, but I figured it was likely one of the girls in the show, since that's Disney's usual MO. I guess I heard right, though. I wonder if neither of the leads in this can sing, maybe?

I think this show is extremely cute, and I really enjoyed the episode tonight. The storyline with Tinka and Ty was very sweet, and CeCe's tutor was adorable.

I also loved Gunther thinking that he and Tinka would be getting married. He's just the type.

I loved how Gunther kept winning in arm wrestling. I didn't notice as much overacting tonight as in previous episodes (spagetti/meatball/paycheck), which imo was a big improvement. Even though I definitely feel too old for this show, it's enjoyable.

I wonder how many of us are actually in the show's target audience. :)

I liked this episode too (Ty and Tinka?...that could be interesting if they go with it)--nearly everything felt more comfortable than in the previous three--but I couldn't help thinking that Ce Ce's being revealed as dyslexic was a bit too sledgehammery for my taste. In fairness, though, the show handled everything after that quite well.

I wish Disney would get away from the "precocious little kid". It's getting really old that just about every show has one.

And, if CeCe is dyslexic, shouldn't she be getting support at school?

Are Tinka and Gunther ballroom dancers? I've only seen parts of prior episodes, but there aren't many other styles of dance where you're working with a partner in your teens.

Most tween/teen shows do it to appeal to the younger viewers. And they make the kids precocious (a.k.a. annoying) because it's a sort of wish fulfillment. I think a lot of kid that age wish they could outwit all of the grownups in their lives, get away with just about everything, strike fear into the hearts of their older siblings (or pseudo-siblings), etc. Which is why such characters often end up being very popular with younger viewers. And even some older viewers, who wish they could've had it that good at that age.

I find the little brother on Shake It Up kind of annoying, but he seems precocious in a somewhat normal way. Of course, the show is young.

I like Flynn & I don't find him precocious. He's not as annoying like Rocky & Ce Ce, he's kind of spunky, & he is certainly much smarter than Rocky & Ce Ce. Next to Gunther & Tinka, I find Flynn to be very funny & entertaining. Rocky & Ce Ce can learn a lot from him.

I was actually thinking of Henry as the precocious kid genius. Rico at least has a plausible level of acceleration for a gifted kid, and has some multi-dimensionality, and Cory was a genius only in specific areas. So far, Henry is the kid genius from central casting, with Flynn trying to "make him a real boy". Ugh!

This is turning out to be a cute, if dryly warped, little show now that we're twelve episodes in and everybody's settled into their roles. (The last two episodes have been really funny, IMHO--more so the former, which was largely Rocky-centric.)

Interestingly, it and Good Luck Charlie--the only other show that's not related to anything else in the DC universe (ahem)--are due for a crossover later this year.

In a surprise to nobody, the show getting a 2nd season.

Despite Ce Ce's bad acting, horrible dancing, and always putting down Gunther & Tinka, I'm starting to like this show a little bit. Mainly, because of Ce Ce getting humiliated a lot on the show. The last episode was very enjoyable. Seeing her squirm while trying to help Gunther with his problem (being his girlfriend at the dance) was very funny. We need to see more of that.

I also think that Ce Ce & Gunther would make a cute couple.

Not only is the show getting a second season but the Shake It Up girls are the new faces of Disney Channel. During the week of the Disney Channel Upfronts, those girls were doing media all over the place. You couldn't watch an interview show without seeing those girls. Considering all their major stars have aged out, the Shake It Up girls are pretty much going to carry Disney Channel for the next three to four years.

Yeah, sometime, Disney Channel needs to explain its caste system. I assume that she's not a series regular, so she doesn't show up in the opening credits. I also assume that if you're not a series regular, you don't get to do a "You're watching Disney Channel". But Greg Sulkin isn't a series regular on Wizards of Waverly Place, but he got to do a YWDC associated with his work on Wizards. And Brenda Song got to do one for Phil of the Future, even though she was never a series regular on that show.

Phil of the Future dovetailed with the start of The Suite Life Of Zack & Cody, so if Brenda's promo was done at around that time I can let it slide. Gregg Sulkin, meanwhile...albeit he's playing the most significant recurring character on WoWP right now, but huh?

Too bad the bumpers are all done out-of-character apart from (perhaps) the Hannah Montana one--I'm thinking Gunther and Tinka could do a really silly one.

In name only. From what I've seen, Tinka is around and involved about as much as Gunther is. So her not being in the credits is, in fact, odd. The only thing I can come up with is that actors that are considered official regulars get paid more than those who aren't. But I actually don't buy that DC would be trying to pinch pennies in that way. (Paying one actor a little more isn't going to break them.) So I don't know what gives.

As for who does the YWDC things, I doubt there's much logic in who gets picked for them, be they lead, regular, semi-regular, or other.
