It debuts on Sunday (10PM ET/PT) on Showtime & is Ilene Chaiken's attempt to extend her L Word "brand".

She's an executive producer alongside the folks behind "Top Chef".

Sho's "official" site & other items below.

Sho's show site

A chat with the ladies

A 3-page review

A N.Y. Times Chaiken-view

Without seeing the show yet (or if answering after 11PM Sunday, after seeing ep.1), but the press stuff/interviews, do you see any similarities between any of these women & the ones from the scripted 'L' show?

Obviously, Whitney: Shane apparently, she's also very handy with certain.........harnesses

Jill & Nikki: Bette & Tina

Rose: Papi

Mikey: For now, i'll go with Alice

Tracy: Even though she's not a tennis star, i'll say Dana (R.I.P.)

Of course, these opinions could change over the 9 episodes this show runs.

I think one girl is Puerto Rican. In one of the articles linked by pigsfeet (I think it's the "3 page review", the creator said that backgrounds of the ladies made them diverse, and that it was up to the viewers to watch the show, make in popular, in order to go to different locations and have more racial diversity. What a bullshit answer to the inquiry, IMO.

I never watched The L Word, but I think I may give this a shot for shits and giggles at the very least, though I don't find the mini bios about any of the ladies intriguing or making me root for them pre-show. Dunno if I'm the target audience, though (black female, straight, mid 20s).

I'd think Sho, Chaiken & Co. will take anyone they can get Ivy, well, outside of minors of course.

Straight, gay, bi, tri, etc.

That was a pile of boring.

Where to start? I was happy that Whitney and Tracey met because I thought they'd make a good pairing in the first 2 minutes. I hate the way Sara's name is pronounced so, if I ever write about her again, I'm calling her Jenny-lite. What else? Long term relationships are like 9 months to one year? Okie Dokie.

Yeah, how about those Lakers?

At this point after watching the premiere, I don't like any of these women. I sorta like Tracey, Mikey and Rose, but only sorta and not full out (Mikey lost me with waiting until Raquel got home in order to eat. Can't you make your own damn dinner if you are so hungry? You are really going to wait until she comes home to eat?). Nikki's face scares me. Rose's girlfriend Natalie is moving hella quick. Chic, if you are still ironing out boundaries about interacting with other women, what makes you think that it's time for you to have a baby with this person? A baby ties you to someone FOREVER, so maybe you should wait?

And, while Tracey was ok, I thought her girlfriend (Shami?) was totally bugging for only having dated her for 3.5 months, yet having her children around her for overnight stays. That's too soon, IMO, especially if you are only still in the honeymoon phase and real colors haven't come out yet.

Whitney may be my least favorite. She's a damn lie if she doesn't understand why people think she's a player. Bitch, please! How can you not understand that Sara would be annoyed--you came to the club with her, then the next minute you are asking Tracey to get coffee with you in FRONT OF Sara! And, Whitney, hetero couples also get angry and make up and have sex in the same day too.

Didn't care for any of them really. Got tired of Whitney and her shtick after the first 15 minutes, so the focus on her for much of the episode greatly bugged.

I love Tracy. Not only is she gorgeous, but she seems genuinely nice, and probably the most normal of the bunch. Didn't like Mikey as much as I thought I would going into it, but she's not that bad. I like Whitney slightly more than I thought I would, which still isn't very much. CANNOT STAND Rose or Nikki and Jill. Actually, I don't know that Jill is all that bad by herself, but I hate Nikki and their whole wedding planning just grated.

I don't know how I feel about them yet but I can already tell Nikki and Jill are the "Bette and Tina" on this show.
Whitney's horrible and I hate her "I just love girls, and I don't mean to hurt them but I just do" act. She knows what she's doing and she better slow it down or else she'll catch something. Her hair bothers me too.
I like Rose, Tracy, and Mikey's girlfriend.

Mikey's behavior at work was appalling. I have seen this and never understood it. You can get to the same place without acting like a jerk. Nat is too good for Rose. I like Sara alot more than Whitney (who has some serious problems). Whitney is still very watchable to me due to the problems. Sara and Nat are both very sexy and, on a vulgar wavelength, very cute in their panties. Could care less about Jill and Nicki (they are even more boring than the made up Bette and Tina). Tracey is too cute and nice for this show.

Been to Crown a few times and it looked better tonight than it felt in real life. Monica Camacho hanging around (and on Nat a bit). Too bad no Real World Cancun Ayiiia.

And, Whitney, hetero couples also get angry and make up and have sex in the same day too.

They do but I know where Whitney was coming from. In my romances with men, that was an occassional, kind of rare element and among my female friends that date men those stories only came up her and there. In romances with women (including my longtime gf), it is all the time and most of my female friends that are with women seem to discuss constant situations. Years ago I read Leslie Lange's "Dyke Drama" and was peeved but thought later this is kind of true. I like it myself. When Whitney was ignoring Sara and flirting with Tracey, I thought to myself I bet Whitney and Sara are going to be having some heavy sex tonight. Whitney may have been generalizing but it did seem to hit a truth to me. Some couples even seem to crave the "F&F".

Seriously. I hate people who get off on yelling and being a jerk.

And what did Mikey's girlfriend mean when she said, "Gay fat is straight skinny"?

Nikki's face scares me. I do not find her attractive at all. Please eat something before your wedding. And what was with the huge 3+carat engagement rings only being worn in some scenes?

I did find the "You can be Jillian and I'll be Jackie Warner" line funny.

Ok I get that "reality" tv really isn't, but the meeting of Whitney and Tracy was just sooooo fake. "I'm want to go talk to that girl over there." Oh you mean the one also being followed around by a camera that you just happen to not notice?? Why didn't they just play it off as they knew each other in passing or something?

Mikey or whatever should just get the sex change already and be done with it. Maybe then she wouldn't be such a bitch who is trying way too hard. I've heard of penis envy but I don't even know guys who talk about penis as much as this lesbian.

Tracy seems way too sane to be on this show, so there has to be something lurking under the surface. I hope I'm wrong because she is the only attractive one on this show...to me anyway.

Give me Bette Porter, Alice Pieszecki, Tina Kennard, Shane McCutcheon, Helena Peabody and Dana Fairbanks any day over Ilene's new venture.

This piece of crap was about as boring as watching a moth eat wool. Even the women in this "reality" venture somehow did not seem as real as the cast of the fictional show. For those who never watched the TLW, the original show had many problems that revolved around the writing. Most people were aware that Ilene Chaiken wrote much of the story line and she can't write worth shit. However, the cast was fucking amazing. Those women had so much personal chemistry with each other after 5 minutes of the pilot episode, you were convinced they had been friends for ever.

Only reason I watch was because HRC had a social yesterday and reviewed the show. I left about half way thru the airing. It was just boring!

I liked it, and I will be definately tuning in every Sunday!

Whitney is a douchebag. She totally fucks with girls' emotions and knows it too. I don't buy her clueless act for a second. If you're going to be a player, at least own it.

Mikey at work was reminiscent of Kelly Cutrone. I don't blame the agent on the phone for giving her attitude because Mikey totally set that tone at the start of the conversation.

I can't believe some of these people will actually have sex on camera! It seems kind of like porn to me, and totally grosses me out. Some things should really be off limits.

It's hard to explain but I've heard this sentiment amongst the gay men that I know, especially the ones who are in the gym several times a week yet can't throw a football to save their lives. For a straight girl, a straight man who has a few extra pounds may not be ideal but he's still dateable, whereas a gay man with that same body-type is more likely to be passed over for a more fit, younger looking guy. Typical superficial behavior, which transcends sexual preference.

Thank you!
I guess I just thought this show would be more like the Real Housewives or something in that the participants would acknowledge each other if they were out in the same clubs or whatever. I don't doubt that Tracy and Whitney had never met before, but the not acknowledging the show part of their connection was LAME.

Whitney is a fucking piece of work. She had me fooled; I couldn't believe that she had another "friend" coming into town literally 3 minutes after Sara was leaving. Ridonkulous! And I seriously hate her dreads. HATE.

Nikki is sooooo skinny; I'm worried for her. I can only imagine how much the quote from the wedding planner was. I'm dying to know. I forsee the planning details becoming a hindrance in her and Jill's relationship.

Anybody else catch Veronica from the Real World (or Road Rules I think) at the bar? She was the one who randomly got picked up (literally off the ground) by Rose. I didn't think she was a lesbian, not that have to be in order to go to Crown or wherever, but I do remember her occasionally making out with girls on the MTV "Challenges".

No! Totally missed that it was her, though admittedly, I wasn't really paying attention to the people in the background.

And I seriously hate her dreads. HATE.

So do I; then again, I'm of the mind that certain textures of hair do not work with dreads, no matter how cool one may think it looks. This is the second person on reality tv this week with shitty dreads (John from Top Chef was the other).

I actually went back & took a second look at the Rose 'pick-up' scene, & yes, Veronica definitely gets around. Surprised she didn't finagle her way onto camera out of the background, if not onto the cast itself.

Seriously though, i'll be back next week, in fact, I hear the season preview was rather spicy (drama, sex, drama, sex, and more of the, well, you guessed)!

Plus, the show's educational too (who's a "Pump" or a "Pant"?).

Yea, apparently there will be sex with a strap on. I also can't believe that some of these ladies had sex on camera...it seems too much to me, but whatever.

I never heard that before, but I guess that's just another way to say butch/femme, lipstick lesbian, etc.

I guess just from watching crap such as Bad Girls Club, I'm not surprised by people having sex on camera. I hope none of these women are stupid enough to have sex on camera and then turn around and deny it the next day a la Amber. I also think it might have been part of their contract. Not that they had to have sex, but if they did it would be filmed. They are selling this show on the lesbian sex aspect. The intro to the show was all about their first times having lesbian sex. That set the tone right there.

Oh, I didn't know that she'd officially come out. The last Challenge that she was on (about 18 months ago) she was hooking up with the Pasty 'Roid Canadian (aka Evan), so I didn't know. And I had totally forgotten about her "relationship" with Rachel.

Anyway. I already was uncomfortable with the sex stuff that they showed last night and it was mostly auditory. I don't know how I'm going to handle the strap-on scenes - they look very graphic.
I'm dying to know what Whitney does for a living. She seems like she'd be a Suicide Girl for some reason which, lame.

ETA: I just looked at the bios on SHO.com and Whitney's a visual effects artist, whatever that is. Oh, and Nikki is that talent agent/manager lady that came out on Oprah a couple of years ago; I totally remember that episode - she wasn't as skinny.

She "came out" as what? A bisexual or a Lesbian? I hope its the last time I see this famewhore on this show. My luck, she'll probably hook with Rose and I'll never see the end of her.

ETA: Thanks pigsfeet1. LOL.Wow!!! Using the word "epic" to describe it would be an understatement.

She likes women Brakchi

I wonder if she hooks up with Rose? I'm assuming she's popular with the girls? I still don't understand why Rose felt the need to pick her up whiles her girlfriend was standing there.

I'm not sure if, as with many queer women, she ever labeled herself. She likes women and is a fixture on the LA scene as a few Real World lesbians/bisexual females are. She won't be the only Real World woman showing up. I don't think Ayiiia will be famewhoring when she does. It just happens her girlfriend is Rose's best friend.

I found several of the peripheral persons far more attractive and interesting. I just don't know why they felt the need to shoehorn in the engaged couple or Mikey (who is loathsome and not interesting on any level that I can figure out).

Anyway. I already was uncomfortable with the sex stuff that they showed last night and it was mostly auditory. I don't know how I'm going to handle the strap-on scenes - they look very graphic.

I hope there is more shown than just strap on sex. I wonder if they thought other depictions of women making love to women would be too graphic for audiences.

Some comment from across the pond:Watched it with a group of friends last night after dinner and will keep doing this as long as this series will run. It has cost me home made popcorn and two bottles of prosecco while watching but given us a lot of laughter. It's not the nine o'clock news, but a candid reality series.

The first episode was pretty boring. I was expecting a little more drama I guess. I also thought they would already know each other but I guess having them work in different circles gives more viewpoints. I also agree that Tracy seems way too nice for this show, but as she's the only one I actually like right now, I'm happy for her to stick around.

Meh, as long as this doesn't stray into "The Hills" territory of scripted drama featuring a lesbian version of Speidi, I'll keep watching, but mainly because it's the summer and there isn't a lot to watch anyway.
