While Jack's group searches for Desmond, Locke comes up with a new plan. Ana Lucia: Michelle Rodriguez. Rousseau: Mira Furlan.

Jack as Jacob, that was kinda forecast. I did like the explanation of how Jacob chose his candidates. Makes him a little less of a dick.
I love Sideways-Desmond. He's like a serene, psychotic Pied Piper.

"And I thought that guy had a God complex before." Jack taking Jacob's place, it has been called here many times. Though I wish he didn't have to, poor guy.

Goodbye Charles and Zoe, you will not be missed.

Ana Lucia! Cool

Super Bran? That's a little more than I wanted to know about Sideways Jack.

RICHARD IS NOT DEAD. No way. Don't believe it.

YAAAAAAAAAY, Danielle!!! And making a kidnapping joke, too. That's cute.

I love Sideways Ben.

I love Desmond.

I'm developing a ridiculously-late crush on Jacob.

I really enjoyed this episode, and I lovelovelove this show.

Jacob: Sit down and I'll tell you everything
Losties: Ok
Jacob: There's a light and someone needs to protect it. Oh and I created smoke monster. That's all you get.
Losties: Ok

Mystery solved!

I adore the Sideways portions of the show! The tension and urgency was really palpable toward the end. So excited to see what Desmond, Kate, Sayid, and Hurley do next, as well as the Jack/Locke/Ben storyline.

Jacob's explanations regarding his choice for candidates were helpful. Interesting that almost anyone can assume the position if they want.

Loved the reprisal of a lot of the old music in the episode. Lot of themes from season one. Definitely better than last week! No freaking clue how they're going to wrap it up....

I liked Ben's sideway romance with the french chick.
It is time to wrap up the series and the storyline but Sunday night is going to be bittersweet. I hate it when a tv show breaks up with me.

An example of Lost at its finest. I loved every minute of that. The only thing I'm not happy about is Ben backsliding. I hope he's pulling a con. Love Anna Lucia as a dirty cop. Danielle looked beautiful. Look's like Hurley has full memory of the island.

Loved it! Watching Desmond's plan come together in the sideways has been utterly thrilling, honestly one of the coolest arcs of the whole series, and I feel like the island stuff is finally getting to the point. I'm glad it's Jack, ultimately, and I'm very excited to see what Ben is up to.

I was hoping for a more epic death for Richard the immortal, but instead he got punched in the throat again. Assuming he's really dead and not just soaring across the ocean halfway to Los Angeles by now.

Jack is the new Jacob. They've always sort of played the "Jacob has God-like powers" thing really down-key. Yeah, he twists the threads of Fate and cures people and teleports things, but we never really SEE it. I hope the Finale doesn't really abuse that.

One answer we'll never get - what was Widmore's agenda? I always sort of suspected he wanted to control the Candidates so that when Jack (or whoever got picked) became the Island's Local Deity, he'd appoint Widmore the Leader of the Others.

If that is how they killed Richard I will be very upset. A sad ending for the character.

Will they all have a massive flashback at the concert? Jack will be there, Miles,Charlotte, Faraday I`m guessing, maybe Charlie? Kate as well. Maybe Miles will convince Sawyer to come.

Preemptively, I loved the “it’s just a line of chalk” bit. I did not hate Jacob’s explanation regarding Kate’s name being crossed out even if it was a retcon.

Although the Jack becomes the new Jacob wasn't a surprise, I still haven't been able to figure out what's going to happen next. I love this show, and Desmond was awesome. I really wonder if Jack ends up "fixing" Not!Locke instead of killing him, like he's going to fix the Alt!Locke. Other than that, I've got nothing.

It was cool the way Jack chug-a-lugged the water, unlike Jacob who took a mere sip of the wine.

Sideways Desmond wins at life. Love how he's bringing the gang back together. Love even more that his original Locke-plan didn't work out (or so he thought) and he went back to try again.

So Desmond seems to remember, and Hurley clearly remembers a good deal (since there's no other reason for him to know Ana-Lucia)---does Faraday remember everything now?

I have this image of Desmond and his crew converging on the concert and just beating the crap out of Jack/Claire/Juliet (since it seems pretty clear that Juliet has to be David's mom) until everyone starts hugging.

Loved the opening scene on the beach. Not only do we have the symmetry of Jack stitching Kate up, but the musical cue as Sawyer looked out at the ocean was near identical to the one that played when Jack looked at the devastated fuselage in the pilot. They're going to take the "full circle" thing seriously, methinks.

Alex's hair - love the Dorothy Gale look. Does she have a little dog, too? I assume this is just an extension of Ben's Wizard of Oz motif, but I love it nonetheless.

I would rather have had a quick flashback to Jacob visiting Widmore, assuming that's true. How hard would it have been? It goes to show it's always better when they show stuff than when they exposit. I guess I was wrong that Widmore and MIB were in cahoots? Then when Jack got on the sub because of Kate getting shot, that was just luck for MIB?

Richard? That can't be it. A tad anticlimactic, n'est-ce pas?

I'm really surprised that they "settled" the new-Jacob thing in the penultimate. I'm not sure I trust it. Hurley was so glad it wasn't him that I half-expect Jack'll have the shortest reign ever and Hurley will have to take over. I'm still hoping they go for the non-solitary protector route. The loneliness will drive you nuts. I want them all to do the job together!

Jacob didn't really answer when Jack inferred they had to kill MIB. I hope MIB can be redeemed, too. Like Anakin.

Did the final four let Desmond out or did somebody else do it? Claire maybe? That would be wonderful.

Desmond once activated a fail safe. Now he IS a fail safe. What does it mean? What does it mean for the flash sideways? I don't get it!

But I LOVED the FST tonight. Desmond with his calm demeanor, Hurley being fully in on the plan, Jack and his son being so gosh-darned happy. I just wish I understood what they were trying to DO. We get everyone to remember the island. Now what?

Sigh. I'm very confused. As penultimate episodes go, it wasn't "Greatest Hits" or "Exodus Part 1," but it revved up pretty well. Some fairly good character moments for a multi-centric episode.

What did Alex say to Miles? Surely Miles will use it to keep Ben from going to the Dark Side, right?

Too many thoughts. Which usually means it was good.

I always love Michael Emerson, and he really pulled it off as both Bens. Ben Prime, I think, doesn't know exactly what game he's playing. I think he's keeping watch on Smokey, and being able to kill Widmore was a benefit of that. But what he's going to do with this intel? Again, I don't even think he knows.

Hurley doesn't know when to shut up in Sideways LA either. Funny.

Okay: I was wrong and they were right to put "Across the Sea" where it was. It kept the Jacob/Esau dilemma fresh and made tonight's suspense almost unbearable.

When the fire goes out, indeed. Like the little white dot in the black screen of TV sets from Old Style Earth, as Old Style Star Trek used to say.

Wonderful ep! But why is it, or how is it, that Desmond just ROCKS IT every scene he is in and elevates this show to artform? He's got that elusive, wonderful quality that eludes Jack/Matthew Fox... every time Desmond is on the screen he just brings magic to the show. Wow. I could just watch him forever... and he stands out in a show filled with superlative performances.

Given that Locke promised Ben ownership of the Island and now plans to trash the Island, even if Ben doesn't "turn Good", he's still got no motivation to continue to work with Ben.

Both statements are true. And yeah, it was a major sacrifice on Jack's part, but he's been rocking the "yes" since The Last Recruit. I did like how Jacob gave the candidates a choice.

Ana Lucia! Cool

I love how she's a corrupt cop.

One caveat... If they try to push Kate-Jack on me during the finale, I will puke. Jack's sacrifice is meaningless if he ends up with a fake happily ever after.

Cannot wait for the finale! Loved tonight's episode even though Jakob's explanation left me a little unsatisfied. I am loving the sideways world and I am hopefully we see Charlie! I really wanted Jack to have his sideways son but it looks like that wont happen.

Don't forget Juliet, as David's mom. Maybe the kids' violins will crescendo just as she and Sawyer lock eyes....

Okay, Damon, Carlton, I apologize for doubting you with "Across the Sea" and its placement in the season. After watching it last week, it did give me added depth in to Jacob and Smokey, layers I think I really needed to see close to the finale to understand both of their motivations.

Ben! Rousseau! What a twist.

And how tonight made me kinda love Jack. And I've hated Jack for yeaaars. But his grace tonight in accepting Jacob's role was beautiful to witness.

This was so much better than last week. I'm actually looking forward to the finale again.

Richard better not be dead. That would be quite the lame death.

I am disappointed that Ben seems to have gone back to being a douche and screwing people over. I guess a tiger never really does change his stripes. ME is amazing though.

I wonder who let Desmond out of the well. We didn't see any of the remaining losties do it. They were too preoccupied with Jacob.

I feel bad for Jack. What a horrible job to have to do. I figured it would be him to take it though.

And, then you fall for that rebound show that you constantly compare to the one that you really loved and it never quite measures up and it all ends with bitterness and yelling. Things said that you can't take back. We've all been there.

I guess that I always knew that it would be Jack. It seemed destined.

Miles: 'I lived here thirty years ago. In other words, last week.' I really hope that Miles survives all of this, I like him.

That was awesome! I loved the meeting with Jacob and while I didn't like that Ben let Smokey kill Zoe and Widmore I think he's doing a Sayid, pretending to work for him while he's really got some plan to stop him.

I teared up during the whole Jack choosing to be the protector, Jacob telling him he wanted to give them a choice, what he never had. Definetly interesting that the reason why Kate's name was crossed out was because she was Aaron's mom for a while. When she mentioned Ji Yeon, I had this flash of her adopting the little girl.

The other scene that really got to me was Locke coming to Jack in the Sideways, ready to be fixed.:) I just love how Desmond grins when he gets put in the jail cell with Sayid and Kate.

If Sayid has to go to the concert, then what about Locke, Sawyer, Jin and Sun? Thank goodness this puzzle will only exist for the next five days. But since this is Lost, that question may not be answered after all. Also, is the concert with Jack's son the same event where Miles was headed?

Richard's (presumed?) death was totally befitting the non-entity his character has come to represent. Sure, he and Ben were responsible for The Purge and he led Jack and Sayid to Jughead. Still, he was simply a vaguely mysterious character with no ties to the main characters and only a very incidental relationship to the ultimate mythology of the show. I'm not sure if I will miss him or not.

Overall, I enjoyed this setup to the finale, especially Ben in both universes. Unlike Richard, I will certainly miss Ben, perhaps more so than any other character on the show. Let's see if the finale makes me change my mind.

Aw, I wish I felt that way. [snip] saw that coming from a million miles away so it was pretty boring and uneventful, and I saw no grace in his acceptance. I don't know if it's just that Jack is such a boring character or Matthew Fox is so "eh" but I still don't give a crap about Jack.
