Yeah, it is a bit much. Particularly since of all of them, Lee Ann Wong is the only one who looks as if she actually eats food.
Cooking Channel: Mmmm or Half-Baked?

My husband refers to "Unique Eats" and "Unique Sweets" as food porn. Close-up slow-mo, gratuitous hand action, funky music track... I haven't been able to watch that show the same way since. I will say that those shows and "Eat Street" have been informative, as I live in a city that is often featured on those shows. I've been to several restaurants that were showcased and I was definitely not disappointed!

Ha!! I agree about Lee Ann Wong. Everybody else appears more interested in turning a clever phrase; she really does seem like a true foodie.

Eta, she lost a bunch of weight a few years ago, she has gained some of it back.

I believe she was also an instructor for the French Culinary Institute. I'm not suggesting she doesn't have nads. After watching the first season of Top Chef it was pretty obvious that she has serious nads. It's just that she has always struck me as a sensualist about food, while the rest of the hosts of Unique Eats/Sweets don't really strike me that way.

Lee Ann Wong. . .was a culinary producer for Top Chef until last year when she quit.
She hasn't been affiliated with Top Chef for six years, if her Wikipedia page is to be believed:
Lee Anne Wong is an American chef and was one of the last four contestants on the first season of Bravo's reality show, Top Chef. She was the culinary producer for the next four seasons of Top Chef, where her duties included sourcing and styling the ingredients for the various challenges, as well as determining the budget, equipment restrictions and time limits.

I'm watching it now. I've never heard of her either, but she seems pleasant enough and passionate about cooking. It's hard for me to imagine she's a singer - her voice sounds hoarse likes she's losing her voice. My husband Googled her and it says she graduated from Le Cordon Bleu. Also, she married a rapper and divorced him while 7 months pregnant, and is getting $55K/mo child support. Not feeling inclined to change the channel.

Edit: Ok it is later. ZOMG Kelis did the Milkshake song!
She is very attractive & this has promise, she can cook & has an interesting backstory.
Her voice is very Rachael Ray.

Since the Cooking Channel was the last to air the show, I just wanted to lift my glass and toast the last of the fabulous Two Fat Ladies duo, Clarissa, who sadly passed away this week.
The food may have been a tad too adventurous, for my taste, at times, but those gals really knew how to have fun and didn't give a damn about too much of the good stuff. The culinary world just lost one of the greats, imo.
I wish they would still air their episodes, I was missing them before but this news makes me wish for a TFL's marathon in their honour.

Tiffany's show was labeled as a "special". Maybe they're seeing how ratings are before making it a series.

I enjoyed it. Granted, I like her a lot in White Collar, but she seems to be personable and the conversation wasn't fascinating, but it was agreeable enough. I want to see Willie back way more than I want to see Nathan Fillion, though. He didn't really contribute much to the conversation (JMO).

I really love CC, its what I thought FN was going to be. "Saucy & Sweet" with Kelis was fun, I thought it was going to be a regular cooking show. I've been making jerk ribs for years and was pleasantly surprised that her recipe is a lot like mine, she keeps hers on the bone too. Dinner At Tiffani's was cute, her house is gorgeous, and she has the kitchen of my dreams. Her recipes were easy, but to me looked a bit bland. I would need to add a few twist of my own. I had no idea Willie owned two really popular restaurants in L.A., you see celebs photographed coming out of Little Dom's a lot. Nathan was funny and charming, Lindsay was a bit too kiss-assy towards Tiffani imho, and she's too thin. She was so gorgeous back on The Bold And The Beautiful and All My Children. Her family story is fascinating though, her mom and dad are siblings(mother was adopted by her dad's family)is a Lifetime movie.

There's going to be a new show on CC called Siba's Table. Googling it indicates it is already a show on FN UK. She does South African cooking. I'm all for new shows that show a different cuisine. I have no idea what South African cooking is.

I cannot wait for Siba's show to finally air over here, took them long enough.
Sometimes South African cooking is called "rainbow cuisine", because it's this amazing, rather eclectic, mix of cooking based on so many varying cultures, from the native Africans to the influences of Greeks, Italians, Frenchmen, the UK, Germany, and the Dutch of course, and it also has Asian influences as well.

Yes add me to the camp of annoyed by the overly convoluted food descriptions.
I saw another episode of that new Bal Anderson show, I forget the title, this time they were rock climbing and she was trying to hook up her daughter with the guide. I saw two episodes and in each she is constantly telling her kids how proud she is of them, like over and over. Very little cooking, what happened to her? Is sky diving next?
Posted Apr 8, 2014 @ 12:44 PM
I went on Cooking Channel's FB page and commented that they had ruined Bal Anderson's show - she's a capable cook, just let her do that.

Was Bal Arneson's new show so awful that TCC pulled the plug on it already? I recall watching only a handful of episodes. I enjoyed her on "The Spice Goddess," but I couldn't tell if "Spice of Life" was supposed to be a lifestyle or adventure show. The food looked good, (what little she prepared) but I got tired of her doting on the kids. They seemed nice enough, but wore out their welcome quickly. What is the daughter's name, anyway? It always sounded like Bal was calling her "Snoopy."
Posted Apr 8, 2014 @ 6:24 PM
Good question, Grisgris. After googling around, it seems the daughter is named Anoop.
Posted Apr 8, 2014 @ 6:37 PM
Thanks, PaminBB. That, to me, sounds like an unfortunate name, but I'm assuming it's Indian in nature. It probably has very positive connotations. BTW, is there a Mr. Arneson? If so, he's never on the show and no mention is ever made of him.
Posted Apr 8, 2014 @ 7:02 PM
I googled her today and found out she left an arranged marriage, and was disowned by her family. She had it pretty rough at one point.
Posted Apr 8, 2014 @ 8:22 PM
Oh, how terrible!
I dunno - there are two sides to this story. The bios are a little confusing. The arranged marriage ended a number years ago; the son on the show is the product of her second marriage, to a non-Indian named Brad Arneson, to whom she was married in 2001. I infer from this interview that the second marriage failed, too, which is why we never see Mr. Arneson in the the series.
