After reading that article from the Hollywood Reporter (I think?) that was posted earlier in the thread, I felt that the Jersey Shore cast is somewhat manipulated by the producer, SallyAnn Salsano. I don't feel that they're victims, exactly, probably because they're definitely old enough to do as they wish and they are definitely compensated well but it seemed that she plays the part of "Mom" and they buy it hook, line and sinker, not at any time realizing that she is effectively their BOSS.

Ronnie asking her for advice about his manager/agent? Whhaaat? Why the hell should she care? What about Snooki's father? He phones her to check up on his daughter and actually BELIEVES that this SallyAnn is telling him the truth about her welfarer? Are these people out of their minds?

Has anyone told the cast that when they get washed up (read: addicted, pregnant) Sally Ann will have new guido replacements, faster than they can say "Cabs are Heyah!"?

ITA, I posted similar thoughts earlier. I guess I'm more shocked the article pretty much outs how fake the show is. "Fake" in the sense it is manipulated in every way possible...via editing story arcs to personal interference by the producer (not to mention the producer instigated ice cube/drink fight in Italy). I still can't get over the fact she 'advised' Mike not to have friends visit and urging him to play out the 'Mike-tells/won't tell-Jionni' crap storyline. Thanks SallyAnn! lol.

The only thing that's a little bizarre to me is the role reversal. It's usually a gross, wealthy, dude doing the cheating, behaving disrespectfully, and taking the relationship for granted. The shoe is on the other foot this time. Instead of some 1% bastard treating a woman like shit, it's a woman treating her dude like a trinket. Also, we basically watched similar behavior and disrespect on this very show, but again it was a guy shitting on his girlfriend. And I just don't agree that MVP treating dozens of girls like walking blow-up dolls is somehow not nearly as bad as Snooki's treatment of Jionni. The fact that MVP aren't in a relationship with these girls doesn't make it somehow more acceptable nor is it more okay because the girls know what to expect. At this point, shouldn't Jionni know what he's getting into too? The way I see it, whether it's Jionni or some girl in a club, they both know what they've signed up for and they're both willing to accept it.

To me, it's bizarre because it's just a sad dynamic in any relationship. I find pretty much everyone in the cast pretty repugnant as far as how they treat those of the opposite sex. And even if Jionni knows what he signed for and is loving it, it is still really weird to me, especially now that a baby is in the mix. I am within their age group (mid-twenties) and I feel like I am watching a circus act when I see how they act with the people they hook up and their significant others. It's just not my reality. I don't get their lives or why they behave the way they do, but then again, I don't have to.

Did you guys hear that according to TMZ they plan on phasing out Snookie and Mike due to them not being able to drink and party anymore? They also want to keep the others but bring in new people to take Snookie and Mike's place.

Makes sense - it's downright irresponsible to put a pregnant woman and a possible alcoholic/addict in the midst of so much partying. Plus, the whole cast needs to be younger. What's cool before 30 isn't so cool after.

Surprised the article from the Hollywood Reporter wasn't posted before. You're welcome, I guess. I was surprised at how honest this SallyAnn bitch was, too. I don't feel sorry for the cast but I do think what the woman is doing is definitely cruel.

I figured they would feature less of Snooki and Mike but if they're gonna acknowledge their fame, the whole show probably changes, right? Who knows if it will even be about Karma and the other clubs as much. I don't know, I don't think partying and hooking up with girls necessarily needs to continue to the same extent as it has. Them hanging out and being their weird selves could be fun. Who knows what happens if they're forced to interact with each other instead? I'm not in the mood for new characters if none of the old ones are left because I've always liked the original stuff only. But if they do it, I'm happy to turn off the TV.

Hmm, this actually could work, and I think it's a good idea. I have grown to dislike both Mike and Snooki. It's almost like they're constantly portraying characters, and if they can't drink and party, then it's probably best to replace them. If they do go through with this, hopefully the show will bring bring people who actually adds something to the show, unlike Deena. I don't even dislike Deena, but other than the awful 'meatballs' story, she really added nothing and that story is pretty close to nothing. Interesting.

I'm scared they are going replace Snooki and Mike with people who are nothing more than parodies of the orginials. How annoying would that be. Some named the "Disposition" showing of his abs all the time and lying about Sammi stealing Jenni's tampons, just because he's trying to show how much better than Mike he is. Then getting a Deena 2.0, which is just like getting Snooki wanna-be wanna-be, would be the most horrific thing ever.

It would only work if they get 2 brand new people with fresh attitudes and ideas. Hey how about a super intelligent hot blonde (cuz Italians can be blonde too), who enjoys playing mind games on all the guys. Teases them, makes them look like idiots on TV and never ever ever sleeps with any of them. Someone who makes fun of Vinny's arrogance because he is convinced he is the smartest person in the house.

I don't have any ideas about a guy they should get. They have a mixture of personalities already with the guys.

Exactly. If MTV wants to replace Snooki & Mike, they need to do it w/ people who have no desire to "out-Snooki" Snooki, and "out-douchebag" Mike.

Maybe, but so many people just want to be on TV because they don't think a person has really arrived or is anybody unless they're on TV.

If they replace Snooki and Mike, they should get two totally different people, not Mike and Snooki wannabes.

They should bring back Angelina and maybe a guy friend of hers, so she won't leave immediately. Although without Snooki and Mike, she might even stay longer without a friend in the house.

She was kicked out of the house because she was surprised she had to work one 8-9 hours day. She's a bartender, she does great things, after all. I think Danny fired her and she was sent home or something. But she also wanted to save her relationship with that married dude, I believe. I don't remember that well.

They should bring in people from their past. Joey, Tom, Dean (the Ronnie twin), Paula, Lauren, the cockblocker, ... I can't even really think of girls. Maybe Rocio and Ramona or something.

She wasn't showing up to work and Danny told her if she doesn't work she can't stay in the house. Angelina chose to leave and evidently she was hiding a relationship with a married man.

They also thoroughly background check candidates now after what happened with Megan Wants a Millionaire.

Even though they filmed the first season of JS before the MWaM flack, they would have done a background check. It was already standard, and they actually did one for MWaM (the investigation company blamed a clerk in Canada).

New housemates may bring back some spark, I think it's a good idea. I would pick two people that were extremely attractive. The jealousy issues alone would be good TV. Please no Snookie/Mike clones!!

If Ronnie even looks at the new chick to long, Sammie would go apeshit. The mellow Sammie of this season would disappear. Vinnie with his insecurity would be very intimidated by a confident and attractive guy moving in, especially if he hits it off with Pauly.

I don't see the "new roommates" thing going down too well. This season when there waas only a possibility of new people coming in, in the confessionals, several cast members (JWOWW and Ronnie come to mind instantly) said they'd refuse to even look at anyone new coming in.

I really think they should get all new roommates, and make them 21-25 tops.

People just think differently then, as a general rule. I know if I met my self from that time frame I'd probably be aghast at half the things she said or did. And I was nowhere near Shore stupidity and can count on less than one hand the times I ever drank. And the taste in men...ugh. It's just a different brain at that age, no offense.

I saw the Angelina episode not long ago and she wanted to get back home to some married guy she was obsessing over, said something like life is more important (and then they broke up soon after), and didn't feel like going to work in the T shirt shop after a late night partying. She decided to go home, no doubt imagining another once in a lifetime opportunity would soon follow. Well maybe if you can call "dial a star" a once in a lifetime opportunity. She's part of that lineup. Anyway they made her go in to the shop and tell them she was leaving. She was unlikeable anyway, always prudishly lecturing the other ones. It was like a mean nanny roommate.

The Unit and his ex porn star girlfriend were on TMZ this past week. He has a nude photo shoot in a magazine called Trois (I don't know if the goods are artfully hidden.)

Two things from the last couple of episodes I just can't get out of my mind: Deena groping for the word pyromaniac and eventually deciding on "hermaphrodite" is not going to leave me for a long time.

The "prank" was beyond stupid. It was a lot of unnecessary work, funny (???) for about a minute and then just had to be put back. It gave the lie to this absurd fiction of the JSers being regular people with a summer rental -- the house owner showed up to help them with this idiocy, even going so far as to provide extra astroturf, about a day before they were scheduled to leave. How often would that happen in a normal, non-televised situation? Apart from anything else, the JSers left the house looking like a complete sty. In a normal world they woulda lost their deposit for sure.

It did reward me with the sight of Sitch sitting under a life preserver with the word "alone" on it though. Never a truer word spoken.

I never got it myself why Pauly and Vinny were claiming they the greatest prankster ever. I agree it was rather lame. I think it was Mike who sent the Meatballs on a cab ride to nowhere, now that was the best prank I can remember on the show, followed by putting spoiled milk under somebody's bed(I believe Snookie did that to Vinny)

I really think they should get all new roommates, and make them 21-25 tops.

How about tell them after Season 6, they will have a vote American Idol style and the lowest vote getter(both male and female) never comes back. Replace those 2, with 2 new people

Not precisely but he got the Palms deal last summer ('11) and IIRC he got permission from MTV to hit Vegas a few days between filming JS Florence/Seaside. SO....I assume they filmed some from June and then continued after the Shore season ended.

Ah, okay. Thanks. On the first episode, they showed him 6 months prior and fast forwarded to him getting the deal at the Palms, so I'm curious if they just decided to re-enact the phone call from his manager because I don't think they would have filmed them 24/7 for 6 months (or 4 months if there was any Seaside Heights filming inbetween.)

Yeah, I felt that phone call was re-enacted too. But it's confusing because his spin off was announced a LONG time ago, so maybe they did some early filming and shelved that until full production.

Right, it is entirely possible that they followed him for that long (or that early on). But man, that must be a lot of nothing to choose from if they fast-forward to 6 months later.

I guess the Snooki/Jenni spin-off will be 22 minutes as well then?

Replacing Mike and Snookie would kill the show. I think the show would be much, much, much, much, MUCH better if Snooki was not on it but I think it would die without the combination of her and Mike. He's right on to say that the rest of the imbeciles in the house need him for scapegoat purposes, and given the complete disdain for Deena entering two seasons after the show started I can't imagine that someone completely unfamiliar to the cast would go over real well. The exception might be if they introduced 4 new people, and only saved 4 regulars in the form of Pauly, Jenni, Deena, and Ronnie.

Vinny brings absolutely nothing to this show and when Sammi's not with Ronnie fucking up that relationship on an episodic basis then she doesn't either. "Single Ronnie" could at least pick up the mantle and fill the clubbing/partying void that would be left without The Sitaution, if the show still wants to center on that. Jenni seems past the show unless they wanted to somehow involve Roger, but she's at least popular with fans. It's obvious that she's evolved though from the girl that would trash random girls in the club and put Sammi in the floor every time she ran her mouth too, which I'm sure was gold in the eyes of producers that they are probably begging her for now. I happen to think Deena might be less annoying without Snooki, and for all her "flaws" at least she genuinely wants to be there and to keep the show alive. I always maintain that the single worst production decision was instituting a safety-net in the form of Deena for Snooki, so their golden pig would no longer have to suffer the consequences of "everyone hating her" that she did sporadically during the first two seasons. If they were to retire that piece of garbage (which I doubt, since I've read they cut her a fatter check than usual just to come back) then I think Deena would at least have the opportunity to develop instead of being Snooki-Lite.

I think the show would be much better off just evaluating Mike and seeing if he could go back into the fold without relapsing. Maybe he could tone down the drinking but stick to his usual role of hoe-running. It's not like he would need to actively go after creating storylines for himself or other people, the rest of the people blame him for that whether he's doing it or not. Long story short, I don't think a "blended" cast would work if they only bring in 2 people and retain the 6 regulars. The best thing they could do would be to cut Vinny/Sammi, free up Deena and Ronnie, and bring in 3-4 newer people.

If they did something like 3 in/2 out, and kept the rest, it might work. Geordie Shore, the UK version, did 1 (male) out, 2 (1 male, 1 female) in. It worked out pretty well with the new male, because he quickly got involved with one of the original cast members. The second girl didn't really add much, only some very minor plot involving original vs new girl jealousy (she was younger than the others, etc.), but it wasn't a big deal because she didn't really snag one of the original men. Granted, this all probably worked only because there was just one previous full season, and a 3 or 4 part special with them spending a week or so in Magaluf. SO, their fame and history together hasn't really reached the Jersey Shore cast's level.

On the con side for an arrangement like this for Jersey Shore, I think the original cast would be cliquish, and not in the original girls vs new girl and, separately, original guys vs new guy sort of way. The whole original cast would probably exclude the new people, to a certain extend. Also, the new people might be resentful in the difference between what they make and what the originals make, and the special treatment granted to the originals, whereas they'd probably get the standard, new reality tv personality treatment. That might create an uncomfortable situation, leading to sulky new cast members. Finally, if the people they bring in are younger, they won't be able to relate to the original cast who might be over a decade older than them (like Pauly D), or just more matured and settled in life thanks to the perks of fame and a whole lot of money.

On the pros side, new people, specifically younger and more attractive people could probably stir up A LOT of drama. Cast members presently on the "best looking out of the JS cast" list might be very threatened. Also, it could create opportunities for Sammi to find someone new, and creating Rahhhhhhhhhhnie drama, or vice-versa. The show doesn't need an instigator (mike) if there's authentic drama to be had.

That said, I probably won't watch a new season anyway. I don't care about new cast members (just like I stopped watching Real World after the 2nd or 3rd season, and I pretty much lost patience with the 3rd. It was like everyone just filled the same role as the original cast. The free spirit, the young one, the beautiful one, the artist, the angry or activist one, etc.) or an endless rotation of Jersey Shore cast members. We've already seen this youth/young adult culture, it was interesting when that's what it was about, now let's move on and discover another segment of youth/young adult culture. The other reason I wouldn't watch a new season is that I am bored to death with all the original ones. Pauly is too old for this, so it's pathetic. J-Woww is too, even if it's not chronological age, her lifestyle has moved on. Actually, it's the same for all of them, except maybe Deena, who is irritating under the best circumstances, and Vinny, who has turned into a jaded, misogynistic ass.

I agree, it's pretty obvious most of them are over this but the money is good, so... However, I'm not sure how to judge the 5th season because they were all tired of each other after Italy already and didn't even care about any drama. I believe it was Jenni who said in one of the dailies that they were all over each other and didn't even talk that much because they knew what was going on with each other.

That and the fact that they basically didn't acknowledge their fame for 4-5 months hurts the show.

One fact from the Pop Up shows that surprised me was that Deena was one of the original 10 potential cast members but they sent her and another person home. When she joined the cast they tried to make it seem like she was just one of Snooki's good friends.
