I have to throw this out here -- I find it hard to believe that Snooki has a legitimate UTI. The reason? I have had a couple in my lifetime and I spend the night drinking water and sitting on the toilet until the doctor's office opens and I'm the first one there. The pain is unbelievable. I can't even think straight when I have them never mind drink and whoop it up. She doesn't look like she's troubled by it at all. Maybe they're using that name instead of something else....?

Chlamydia comes to mind. I found it odd they showed that office sequence with the doc, but cut away before she actually took a piss test and was diagnosed. If she had to have an actual pelvic exam, I hope that doctor was wearing full-blown haz-mat gear.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if she had a whole lot more than a UTI going on in that bacteria-filled cooter of hers. Nasty biatch.

My daughter had a condition which gave her chronic UTI's, more than 20 in 2 years. She wasn't dirty or anything like it, it was because she had a condition that I can't spell..starts with a v and ends in reflux. Anyways, after surgery it was fixed.

But even at 5 years old, she went to the ER on many occasions (she couldn't hold down Tylenol let alone water), and couldn't play like a normal child. It got to the point where she wouldn't drink all day to avoid peeing.

So I am also wondering how Snooki could be so carefree, binge drinking and pissing everywhere with 10 UTI's in one year. Can u have a herpes outbreak that many times in one year? Maybe that's what really going on down there.

Or maybe she's just a nasty bitch and saying it's all because of the UTI when she sobers up to cover up her nastery.

I'm sure the severity of UTIs can vary. And the copious amounts of tequila probably doesn't hurt either.

Hi!

I studying anthropology, and as I am a big fan of JS, I decided to analyze the phenomenon, trying to understand its mechanics and the way the show seduces people (or not).

What is about taste? Can we really talk about "bad taste" in Jersey Shore? Why do we "love" so much this bad taste? Why the hell is Snooki our favorite character (hum actually in my case!)?

I hope you guys will be able to help me in this research... Thanks a lot (and sorry for interrupting your discussion) :D

I am a Sociology junkie (minored in it) & this is my take: I think people watch it for the train-wreck factor. It's so horrific you just can't look away. As for Snooki, I doubt she's anyone's "favorite" - if anything, people just marvel at how shameless she is.

On rewatch I remembered something I wanted to comment on in a previous post. Jenni, while describing her outfit, said something like "I'm showing Roger 2 big reasons to stay with me." Girl lacks some real self esteem if she thinks that's the only way to a guy's heart, let alone pretty sad if that's what the relationship is based on. Sure, she could have been joking, but something tells me she actually believed it. Hopefully one day the girl will just relax and stop focusing on her physical appearance....before she turns into 'The Catlady' from all the tweaks and filler.

At first I thought so too, diorella, but then I thought... she lounges around in sweats and without much (or any) makeup too much to really define herself by her physical appearance only. They're all incredibly vain, of course, but I think that comment truly was just a joke. Although Roger loves the funbags, obviously. But I don't see anything wrong with that, ha.

That's true; in Italy, especially, I forgot how often I was shocked to see a barefaced Jenni. I just found the comment kind of odd, but I guess it was meant to be jokey.

v and ends in reflux

Vesicoureteral reflux. Which is 1) something I know because of a former job and 2) not something I'd ever thought I'd be talking about on TWoP!

But yeah, now I'm wondering if Snooki really has UTIs. I had a friend who was pretty much guaranteed to get one every time she had sex, and therefore almost never had sex. It sucks, but is also a pretty logical reaction to having at least a week of pain and being on antibiotics for 20 minutes or so of fun.

I'd love to know if Deena wouldn't annoy me this much if we had never met Snooki.

As someone who’s mostly entertained by Snooki, I can say for certain I would be equally as annoyed by Deena even if she’d been there first. Girlfriend tries too hard even when she’s drunk and less aware of the cameras. If you look at how other people (dudes, club friends, etc) treat her, there’s that same undercurrent of disgust. Hell, even the Italians seemed to like Deena the least.

If Danny wants to hire more people, it is his shop, not yours. Granted he makes alot of money off of their stupid celebrity bs, but don't be taking down the sign.

I can’t even care what they do at his shop. That guy has made hundreds of thousands from his association with these clowns. And I highly doubt even Danny was serious with that stupid sign written with a pen on a folded up piece of notebook paper.

For one thing, her place in his life isn't very secure, is it? Is there a ring on her finger, or any promises? So why shouldn't she be insecure.

We really don’t know what promises have or haven’t been made nor do we know that Roger hasn’t tried to take their relationship to the next level. It’s quite possible Jenni shot him down. As for a ring, a ring doesn’t mean a damn thing. She should feel secure based on the way he treats her, his behavior, and the kind of relationship they’ve had. I don’t fault Jenni for regressing. Shit happens, people backslide and she was smart enough to acknowledge it. But, she needed to be told what’s what, and I’m glad they worked through it. I just can’t see taking issue with Roger for refusing to be treated like he’s some kind of asshole, cheating boyfriend when he’s not.

But I didn't see her accuse him of cheating, just of not keeping his promise to show up, or basically, being thoughtless. I think he uses her past against her at times to change the argument into something else "I'm not cheating on you" when it's really about some other thing. And just because he isn't cheating doesn't mean he's not an asshole.

Jenni's "two big reasons to stay with me" may have been a joke, but anyone remember when Jenni and Roger were at the gym before Jenni left for Italy? It was when Jenni lost weight. She said "I hope I stay like this," and Roger immediately said "me too." I don't think there's anything wrong with appreciating someone's looks, but that comment rubbed me the wrong way. Jenni's always had a banging body, and there was no reason to add pressure on her to keep her body teeny. Roger seems like a nice guy, but it seems like Jenni started messing with her face and losing weight around the time they started seeing each other. She was perfectly hot before; it's sad.

Eh, I don't know if the cosmetic surgery can be attributed to Jenni dating Roger or the fact that the show was becoming more popular and the cast was in the limelight. I think Snooki lost her weight for the same reason. Not for Jionni, but because of her own popularity and image.

I think Jenni has had botox, but not surgery: she just has wayyyyyy better hair and make up now. When she's hanging around the house with no make up on, her face looks just as scruffy as it did in Season 1. And in Season 1 she had the worst hair extensions imaginable, but now that her own hair has grown out and the extensions blend into it better, her hair actually looks pretty good. Her skin has improved a whole lot, but her features are all exactly the same.

IIRC, Jenni mentioned in an interview somewhere that she doesn’t eat very well and that Roger helped her get her diet under control too. I can see her being worried that in Italy (land of pizza, pasta and wine in their minds) that she’d let her diet and exercise slip and end up gaining all the weight she lost.

I like Roger, but I’ve got to say I didn’t like the way he flipped out at her when she called to apologize. A conversation definitely needed to be had about her tendency to overreact (though I do think she was justified in being upset both times) but I think his reaction was too over the top considering she’d already apologized by the time he got to his rant. Although he comes off as a good guy, in that instance it sort of felt like when people overreact when they know they’re wrong and try to guilt trip the other person into taking blame. If you’d asked her to wait until you were in better shape to go to the beach, it’s kind of fucked up to turn around and go to the beach without her. Yeah, you lost your phone and decided to take the whole day off but you still could have found some way to get in contact with her, especially since he was literally right around the corner from her house and saw one of her roommates.

I agree. On Watch What Happens Live she said she’d gotten laser resurfacing done and it finally clicked. I don’t think she’s gotten any actual surgery done yet but her face definitely looks like a combination of weight loss, laser resurfacing and Botox. I can’t even really tell with her lips because resurfacing done around the mouth can make your lips look a little bigger due to all the smoothness going on. Combined with the much better makeup she wears, I can see it. Without the makeup she still looks pretty much the same, just smoother/flatter.

Totally agree. That's why I appreciated his, "Sorry for raising my voice" so much. He knew he overreacted too in that moment. In the end, they were pretty adult about it. As mad as he was at her, he threw quite a few "I love yous" in there as well which I liked. But maybe I'm just traumatized by how other people fight on this show. Their arguments were at least all semi-valid. Ha! at the "My ass is bleeding" - "Yeah, mine was bleeding a bit the other day, too, so..." I think they're cute, in their own Guido/Guidette way.

That's an established fact: it's a kind of horrific and shameless show. But still: why we keep watching and "enjoying" it? Does JS reflect a way of life we would secretly like to lead? Or is it just the pleasure to watch people do what we won't ever do?

About the bad taste in JS: is the bad taste a behavior or just an appearance? Is it the main factor of the success of Jersey Shore?

You told that "favorite" characters can not exist in Jersey Shore: is the show only there to concentrate people's hate? IS THERE LOVE FOR JS?

I think that's part of it, too. Not neccessarily that lifestyle but being as unapologetic about your flaws as they are. Their confidence - where does it even come from? They're not the smartest, most beautiful or whatever but they all think the world of themselves. I'm fascinated by them because they do seem like a different species.

JWoww and Snooki's spin-off is supposed to start shooting tomorrow in Jersey City. I'm not ashamed to admit I will at least turn in for the first episode.

I admit, I watch it because they are all shameless, and because it reminds me of being footloose in my 20s. I never partied like they do, but I went to clubs in a fishnet and leather mini when I was 22. I had forgotten what that was like, but to see them doing that and more with such big grins, it brought it back. I never thought I'd watch this show at all, but a marathon of reruns caught me up in it. And people who are joyful as they all seem to be (except Mike, and, most of the time) are fun to watch. Snooki is adorable when she's being all quirky and creative and I think Deena is a sweetheart who never would hurt a fly. I'm not fond of all of them, but it's good Tv.

I like Roger, but I’ve got to say I didn’t like the way he flipped out at her when she called to apologize.

Reading that he's got input on what she eats, made a comment about how he hopes she stays how she is now (newsflash Roger, when she's 50 she's not going to have that waist) just adds to my take on him that he is a tad controlling and emotionally manipulative. He can work on those things, and I hope he will for her sake. On the phone for him to go to "so what do you want to do" in that angry tone, i.e. threatening this could lead to a break up if she doesn't back down, was a dick move.

I watch partially for the trainwreck factor but also because it genuinely entertains me. Moments like Vinny and Pauly acting as Tony and Louie? I laugh till I cry. Deena and Sammi talking about getting electrocuted? That was just fucking funny. I enjoy those moments where you get the impression that they are in on the joke and not taking themselves so seriously.

Is there a name to that dance Ronnie is always doing where he swings his arms back and forth across his chest like a baseball umpire calling a runner safe?

Every time we see him dancing he's always doing that move.

I missed Ron's dancing...didn't they talk a lot about it in the first season? It's hilarious/awesome.

I think the one thing that would be 'interesting' (in quotes because knowing him it would be fake) would be to see Mike actually date Paula exclusively. But I guess the Unit wouldn't like that!

Didn't Snooki & Ron do a commercial for the Playstation Move (or something like that) featuring a dance game where his dance was demonstrated? I swear there were even two versions, one in which Snooki demonstrates Ron's moves, and one where Ron does it. I can't remember what they called his dance, though.

Weird question: are there any rules or regulations regarding how much MTV can show in regards to sex? With as much bleeping and pixeling, I'd almost expect them to show everything that goes on in those guys' beds but they generally cut as soon as it gets to actually having sex. Do they have to do that or is it just a coincidence since they cut because an episode is only so long or what?

Deena has apparently peed on the porch as well now, according to a new daily clip.

I'm pretty sure we see quite a bit of sex (despite it being under the covers). I think if it is cut, it's because MTV has to draw the line at airing porn. Yes, it is a faint line, but it exists.

Right, they show quite a bit, now that I think about it.

Ha, that means if you're a JS cast member and don't want your sex life to end up in the episode, they should just get rid of the covers. I am surprised that the only time we've seen Jenni "have sex" was when Snooki pulled on her and Tom's feet in Miami. I totally would have expected to see a 2-second clip or whatever from either the season 5 premiere where she took the smush room or when she got that slutty outfit before Roger left for a few weeks.

Snooki and Jenni's spin-off was supposed to start today and got post-poned to later in the week.
