I recall they were supposed to be part of some master plan by the empty-headed Grey's brain trust to engineer a 15+ year ER-like turnover plan. I guess that's not going well, at least so far.

I don't mind the competitive aspect, I just don't like that it played out as childish.

I do wonder how long they will stick around. I think when this whole idea was first conceived, it looked like Ellen would be out for an untold number of episodes (now she won't miss any) and KH would be out. Also, Kim Raver's character might stick around a bit so that is another person coming in for a recurring. It is hard to see how all the people can stick around at once.
The comments on the writers blog are as scathing as I've seen them in a long time. And they aren't just "I hated the mercy west people" but more "I hated the episode, it was boring, wake me when the merger is over....." I guess ultimately ratings will be the real test. If they go down consistently, I think the show may make some course corrections. Of course, I said that about Denny too. Oh well.
In terms of who could stay, I guess I found Pixie girl most annoying. Lexie 2.0 was also incredibly lame, although if she ended up being a foil for Lexie and made her life a living hell, I could enjoy that (Lexie 1.0 has quickly become my least favorite character). Hot eyes is okay, but I didn't really get a feeling for him. Frankly, I would rather not have any of them join the cast full time.

I just had to share that, and this was the only forum where this might be even remotely relevant.

I do wonder how long they will be on for. They're all over the media hinting about hook ups and optemistically hoping for longterm contracts, but most of them could end up being Sadies. Especially with EP being back much much earlier than Shonda ever though, it was clear that Ellen didn't want to miss much if anything but that Shonda thought she would be out for a few. I know it was also because half the cast wants to get the hell out of dodge after S7, but hasn't Shonda figured out that throwing dozens of characters at a wall and seeing who sticks isn't the best way to go about it yet? How and I supposed to work up enuogh energy to love/hate then when there are 5000000 of them?
Pixie Girl is definitely the most annoying and will hopefully vanish into the parking lot of no return the quickest, but sadly fact probably means she'll end up sleeping with Alex.

I had the exact same thought!

I'm probably the only one who doesn't hate Nosedive. Maybe I'm just thankful that he got Izzie kicked off for a couple episodes and he as a dopeyness about him that makes me laugh. Whatever, I'm cool with him staying...but generally ambivalent.
Reed is...I don't know, I'm ambivalent on her as well. Something about her bugs. Maybe it is the huge eyes or her little voice, but I wouldn't mind having her around if Lexie left. With both of them combined it's a little much for me. Then again, I don't really mind Lexie, they just need to tone down her screentime a lot, IMO.
So if I had to rank them:
Hot Eyes (far and away #1--and that seems to be a consensus)
Nosedive
Pixie

One down, three to go.
WORD!
Hot-eyes can be the last to go.

I am fine with Nosedive and Jackson, as they need more guys and Nosedive is obviously written as a baddie. You need bad guys to keep it interesting. Bitchy Pixie is annoying though. she was complaining about everything. She was even cranky that Cristina got a heartbeat on the firefighter when he coded.
I wouldn't mind if Jackson developed a crush on Cristina, but I wonder if they are going to have him and Lexie get together instead.

I like your suggestion. Lexie should hook up with Jackson, Mark with Kim Raver and then Owen and Cristina can live happily ever after.
I seriously can't get over how hot Jackson is. The casting department is still great at finding all these male actors.

Hope that wasn't sarcasm, because while I don't care about Lexie/Jackson...I'm banking on Teddy (yep, that's her name) turning to Mark for some loving once that ridiculousness with Owen is over and he turns her down. Yeah, needs to happen.
Two things Grey's has always done right: picked great music and cast hot men. I'm pretty sure that will be true until the show is off the air. I have a sneaking suspicion this is why Jackson is the only one sheltered from this shitstorm everyone is sending towards the MW residents, lol.I seriously can't get over how hot Jackson is. I'm not really on board with the MW people mainly because I don't want ANY MORE CHARACTERS. But, if I could trade some others in, I might not mind having a couple of them stay.
At first I was firm about no MW peeps, but last night's episode made me think some of them could work. But, as I said, we've got to get rid of other weak links. Lexie has to go. I know she won't, but I would love to see her put in the background. I would also love to be rid of Callie/Arizona. They don't really work as a couple IMO and they don't bring much in terms of the medical storylines.
I actually liked having more residents and think that would be a healthy dynamic for the show. Make Callie/AZ recurring if you need attendings, but otherwise, I'd rather see a show about these up and coming residents.
In the end, I think Jackson will stay, but I don't see how they keep everyone. That would be ridiculous.

If HotEyes is the product of Ellis & Richard, then he is a "Grey" and they can get rid of Lexie and still have Grey's Anatomy after EP leaves.
(insert evil, maniacal laugh here)
I so agree. I never liked Callie's character (don't think SaRa is all that great an actress in this role, and have never felt Callie as a part of the show, even now). Arizona I like, but I don't like the relationship because there's no chemistry in my eyes. Again, I think it's influenced by my dislike of Callie.
But yup, HotEyes is the only one I like.

If Ellis put him up for adoption (since Meredith doesn't appear to know she has a half sibling) how would he be a Grey? If anything I think he would be a Webber if he were to find out Richard was his father. If HotEyes is the product of Ellis & Richard, then he is a "Grey" and they can get rid of Lexie and still have Grey's Anatomy after EP leaves.
Hot eyes is nice to look at but the jury is still out on him for me. He needs to be interesting along with being pretty for me to want him to stick around.

The idea that Jackson is the love-child of Ellis and Richard is very interesting, though. It hadn't occurred to me, but now that you've brought it up, it seems so obvious.

Can't stand Pixie Girl. She has to go. Now.
Agree. Though her irritatingness is compounded by the screentime she gets, which seems to imply she's going to be around for a while - that only makes her even more annoying. I'd rather have Izzie around than her.
It's a shame about Lexie 2.0 as she didn't seem so bad and possibly less annoying than the original Lexie.
As interesting as the idea is of Hot Eyes being a Ellis-Richard lovechild, with me being a very deep and intellectual person, all I really care about is him being on screen and wondering which Hollywood star his very nice eyes remind me of. Currently I'm thinking he's most like Jude Law, but that could change.

Which is exactly why she was expendable. You were supposed to like the character. The others are there for conflict.

That is a little too soap opera, even for Greys; it doesn't make sense. The pregnancy would be impossible to hide, Meredith would know about it since she is older than Jackson, and Ellis would have had to have taken maternity leave of some sort from the hospital in Boston. Meredith would remember her mother being pregnant, and there is no way Ellis would have been able to hide a pregnancy at a hospital. Besides, Ellis resented having had Meredith. There is no way she would have kept another pregnancy and taken more time away from her career.

It also makes me wonder if ol' Pixie might be getting set up to be the bad girl in some assy triangle story arc with Alex and the Golden One once she returns. Too bad. Since I was fine with Karev's adversarial scenes with Hardcore! Pixie and thought that actress and JC could've been interesting to watch in an eventual friends or more storyline.
The (so far) well-received, Hot Eyes will probably stay. I like him and Pix about the same, so I wouldn't mind seeing a hook up between those two. At least they've each got a little fire in 'em. Unfortunately, I could totally see them sticking him with TPTB's ongoing Pimp Project, Lexie (especially if he turns out to be Meh's half bro...oh, the draaaama!).
As far as Nosedive, I'm really starting to wonder if he's gonna wind up playing a villain or being used as the #2 option for an assy triangle storyline with Izz and Alex.

Be that as it may, so far he's the only one I can see fitting the dynamic of the regulars. I think it was, "In retrospect, I should have had the cookie." that sold me on him. Jackson is pretty but outside of tackling patients gone wild, he doesn't have much of a presence.I can't believe no one has snarked about Nosedive's forehead.

I hate so much the other ones, especially the gorilla and the girl with short hair. Sorry to say that but these two actors physically disturb me a lot.

This! I'm fine with the other new characters but Pixie Chick makes my skin crawl. I can't even enjoy her character in a "love to hate 'em" way like I do with Christina. She prances onscreen and I just want to fast-forward through the scene with one hand and reach through the tv screen and punch in her smug little face with the other.

Pixie annoys me, and the fact that tptb are (seemingly) trying to force some sort of connection with her and Alex bugs the crap out of me. She can go away to.
Jackson is the only one that seems remotely relevant.

Just seems weird to me since Avery doesn't seem like a very common surname.
