Season five of Bravo’s Emmy winning series “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List” begins with Kathy wondering if this is the year she gets off the D-List. After all, she is a two-time Emmy winner now. But a Grammy nod for her new comedy album may just be the catalyst Kathy needs to finally get her on the A-List. So Kathy, her assistant Tiffany and her tour manager Tom drop by the Grammy headquarters to see if she might be able to bribe the Grammy people into giving her the award. Later Kathy heads to Vegas to rub A-List elbows with the divine Miss M – that would be Bette Midler. Bette makes Kathy an offer she can’t refuse -- a cameo in her lavish stage show at Caesar’s Palace! Against the clock, Kathy has to quickly learn the choreography, improvise a costume and come up with a hilarious zinger for her part in the show.

Tiffany looks as if she lost a ton of weight.

I didn't realize Jessica left. I think personal assistant to a celebrity must be a pretty demeaning and not very rewarding job, no matter what possible perks there are.
How much weight did Tiffany lose?! I barely recognized her. She has a gorgeous face.
Kathy is scary skinny now. I don't think she should be that thin.

I hated that the show was so Bette-centric becuase I found Bette to be bitchy and not funny. She just came off as very pretentious. I CANNOT wait for next weeks episode, because I adore Lilly Tomlin.

I don't know how I feel with no Jessica. Tiffany looks great and for some reason, I think Kathy and Tom will hook up.
This season looks great with the upcoming guests and thank the lord because there's nothing else to watch on TV right now...

I thought Bette was okay, I'm not sure how I am going to like such a celebrity-centric season but if the rest of the season is like tonight's episode maybe it can work.

Bette started her career as a bawdy diva in the bathhouses of NY and now she has a problem with dick jokes... spare me. And telling Kathy that she has no class, paaalease bitch. Classy people don't tell people they have no class.
I used to love Bette...not now. Kathy should have told her to go fuck herself.

Aww, cute! She usually had a stank attitude but she was funny. I will miss her as well.It seems like Jessica got engaged and moved to Arizona, I will sort of miss her.

For me, the show was stolen by the lady in the pink shirt who stood in front of Kathy and Bette and stared at the camera as they sang Happy Birthday to the drunks. I haven't laughed so hard in quite a while. I love it!

Yeah, Bette's attitude was well bad.
I liked that Kathy noticed right off when that chick in the pink shirt blocked her shot, and readjusted herself to be in frame again.

Stevie Nicks, on the other hand, came off as really cool. And that girl's been through a lot.
Too bad Jessica left - she seemed effficient and acted as if she had Kathy's best interests in mind. Tiffany's incessant giggling BUGS.

Bette Midler was a fabulous part of the story. Huge star, singer, actor, a perfect foil for Kathy. The show loves Kathy meeting a huge star, showing how that huge star is unsettled by the obnoxiousness of Kathy, but they still end up having a gay old time. I mean, the woman ate a fried Oreo, and sang Happy Birthday to a drunk asshole, and I bet she absolutely LOVED getting to play the conservative "that's just not right, you're so going to hell, what the hell" character. And just calling up Stevie Nicks? Because, you know, she could? Brilliant.
I look at this show as a thoroughly planned out, choreographed extention of Kathy's comedy show. And that's not a criticism in any way, it's a brilliant concept that has worked out so well for Kathy, and I can't wait for the rest of this season. But I'm certainly not going to label Bette Midler a stick in the mud with no sense of humor just because she was gracious enough to play along.

Speaking as a gay of a certain age, I have to say Kathleen, even at her most self-absorbed, is far more relevant today than Bette. Remember, dear, you did start at the Continental Baths, so drop the attitude.
And as for that crack whore in the happy birthday sequence, there better be LV talent agents combing the shelters to find her, cause she has definitely got IT!

Shut up Bette!
I did love Kathy checking in at the H.I.E. and hiding behind that palm tree.
So glad this show is back.

Boy, she was loving life at the moment...too bad she won't remember it when she sobers up. Bette Middler did seem a little prudish of all things, which surprised me a lot. She ain't an Osmond! But she's given Toni Basil a job, who's still workin' the funky hats! Gotta love it!For me, the show was stolen by the lady in the pink shirt who stood in front of Kathy and Bette and stared at the camera as they sang Happy Birthday to the drunks.
Ok, I know she'd "D" list and the hoodie/sunglasses bit was funny, but the product placement for Holiday Inn was a bit much. Still, I've missed the show and I'm glad it's back. I hope Lily Tomlin is cooler than Bette, though.I did love Kathy checking in at the H.I.E. and hiding behind that palm tree.

Also, Tom and Tiffany are not good sidekicks. Jessica was good natured but gave Kathy shit, it really missing Matt and Jessica and before the two of them the first season meetings wiht her best gays) and her parents used to do it and no we are reduced to just her mom!
Tom and Tiffany don't seem to be whip funny or care to do anything but laugh

Tom and Tiffany are okay, but Tom is obviously not comfortable on camera and after this long I'm guessing he never will be. Tiffany is amusing, may need some time and will become more of a foil for Kathy in her own right. But I think they need another assistant to give more dynamic.
Kathy looked like a Sleestak with those big ass sunglasses :)

In it, she made quite a bit of fun of Joan Rivers selling her crap on QVC.
So, how is that tacky crap in a gift shop in a casino any different than the crap Joan sells on QVC, other than you'd have to get up off your couch to buy Bette's crap?
Pot, meet the kettle.

ITA that Bette played the role she was given perfectly. I thought she was hilarious, as always, and the interaction with Kathy really worked. Nobody trashes it up better than Bette so I thought having her act "above it all" with Kathy was brilliant staging.
I really missed this show and look forward to the upcoming season.

I thought the bit with Bette was really really interesting. There were some funny moments but even more was the unintended irony of watching Bette sit in luxury at the end of an incredibly hard fought career path that in some ways parallels what Kathy pretends to do on the show. There were some great moments but the best part was Bette slipping in and out of her role as grand diva A-Lister that seemed clearly scripted. Bette Midler has made plenty of meals from far more plebian fare than a deep fried twinkie and anyone who has seen her perform in her current show knows that woman has not forgotten one single bit of her own white knuckled journey to where she is now.
Losing Jessica might be the best thing for the show simply because I felt the staff aspect was way too heavy and focused in the last season and just this show alone it seemed we had more Kathy as just Kathy. And I'd much rather spend most of each hour seeing Kathy interact with Bette, Lily, Rosie etc. than have her sit and pretend. badly, with the staff as to storylines. Though the Hilton inclusion bothers me. Tremendously. Kathy validating this parasite in any way is a bit like going for my annual checkup and my doctor telling me for kicks he is going to infect me with swine flu.

My complaint with Tiffany & Tom is that their main job appears to be laughing at all of Kathy's jokes. They remind me of 30 Rock's Tracy Morgan with his entrouage of Griz and Dotcom. I missed Jessica! She actually had something to say!!

I thought the Holiday Inn Express bit was cringeworthy. ....It was so forced and awkward .....
I thought the same thing. It seemed awkward and like a skit that was trying too hard. I also wondered if the bit with the hoodie was because Kathy didn't have her hair extensions in at the hotel. In some of the Bette scenes there was a pretty obvious delineation between Kathy's hair and the hair extensions - looks like her hair is kinda short now.
I guess my suspicious mind is wondering what the whole story is with Jessica. Hopefully it's as good of a parting as they are making it out to be. I've noticed that we haven't heard or seen anything from Jessica. I'm sure she signed a confidentiality agreement as part of her employment that keeps that from happening.
I enjoyed Kathy asking Bette questions. She always has a lot a great questions for celebs and I'd love to see longer versions of her "interviews" with them. Good to have Kathy back and am looking forward to her conversation with Lily Tomlin next week.
