(This thread is for talking about the DVD/Blu-ray season sets, the tie-in novels, and any other products that TPTB license.)

Deal Alert: Target, according to their Sunday circular, has the first season DVD set for only $15.99 (which is almost half of what Amazon's current price is).

And, a reminder: Season Two comes out on June 16th (in both DVD and Blu-ray).

***
For those who have watched the season set(s), how impressed or disappointed are you with the video & audio quality and the extras, especially the commentaries?

I have the first season DVDs, and my only quibble with them is the fact that on the episode commentaries, the actors tend to talk over each other. This is particularly apparent when Sharon Gless is participating. However, I do appreciate the fact that they made the effort to produce commentaries for every episode. The character montage is good fun, too.

"I've never understood why anyone bothers with kidnappings anymore," Fiona said. "They so rarely work and then there's all that care and feeding that must take place so that your captive doesn't die before you're ready to kill them. Or, worse, they have a heart attack or a stroke and you're left with some dreadful mess."

"You're a tender person, Fi," I said.

I can't say enough about Tod Goldberg's tie-in novels. They're hilarious, they're full of cool action and realistic-sounding spycraft, they're totally Burn Notice, and you need them in your life. I exhort you to stop reading this and go order them:

The Fix

The End Game

Mr. Goldberg has also written amusing entries on his blog about the writing of the book.

Read The End Game this weekend, and it was aright. not bad for a tie-in book Liked him mentioning forensics and blood spatter experts, cute shout-out to Dex, anyway. The plot just seemed a little wonky.. little too easy to sort everything out for me.

That and I wish he'd take a little more time to give background on the characters. Sam and Fi didn't really feel like their on-screen counterparts to me.

I thought The Fix was terrible. Decent plot, but stilted dialogue and poor characterization all around.

Even without the $15.99 sale, you can get Season 1 for cheap at Target. Target has had Season 1 at $19.99 on pretty much a perpetual basis. I picked it up at this price back at around Christmas time. (They also have plenty of other TV sets at $19.99 which sell for a lot more at Best Buy, Amazon, and other places.)

I wonder if Season 2 is going to go to $19.99 anytime soon?

Maybe around the holiday season (if not November or December, then the post-Christmas sales). Stores will want to get as much extra value from the "impatient" buyers who want the DVD set now, rather than those who are more willing to wait for a lower price.

I was checking Amazon.com just now, and they have the first season DVD set for $12.99, and if you buy the first two seasons together*, they'll knock off another five dollars, so you can get both seasons for a total of $39.98.

*Together, as in buying each DVD set individually in the same order, rather than buying the "Multi-Season Set."

(Personally, I'm holding out for a complete series set.)

Can anyone comment on the extra features of the S2 discs? On the USA site, there's a "preview" of the gag reel....is there more of it? How are the commentaries?? Any other good bits?

The gag reel was hilarious and is more extensive than the clips that were on USA or YouTube. The commentaries are not like those on the season 1 DVDs. They have full-length commentaries for 3 episodes, but they don't include JD or GA. For Bad Blood and Double Booked, they have Matt Nix, writers, and Method Man and Tim Matheson (you can figure out which goes with which). For Lesser Evil, Nix, Bruce Campbell and Michael Shanks. Lesser Evil is the only one I have watched with commentary so far and it was quite good despite the obvious absences.

There's also a feature from Matt Nix about the first episode he directed, and a cute Easter egg from the sound guys. And some deleted scenes.

Overall, I'm enjoying the extras. Was very bummed that the commentary was not the same as on S1 DVDs, but it was still worth it for me.

Season Two Blu-ray review from JustPressPlay.net

Putting Burn Notice on Blu-ray is not without its foibles. For one, the show’s grainy and gritty picture looks dirty when shown in hi-def. The heightened resolution serves the show well during some of the bigger action numbers (the season’s opening and closing, for example) typically just distracts. The audio however has no such detractors when bumped up to hi-def and the show’s sound effects and soundtrack go over beautifully.

I just ordered Season 2 from Buy.com for 22.31 with no shipping costs. (I also ordered Psych's season 3 for 29.51, no shipping.) Consider me a happy camper! I usually wait until a season gets down in the $20 range, which can be up to a year so I am really excited to be able to get these so soon.

There's a Burn Notice: Season 1 and 2 Starter Pack that'll be available starting January 5th, which appears to be not just the two season sets stuck together, but a new package with a couple bonuses thrown in (free download of the Season Three premiere and some sort of "first look" at Season 3.5). Hopefully the season premiere date on the packaging will be fixed.

Amazon has the set at $40.99 (ASIN: B002S3Y1J8), but you can get the first two seasons for $19.99 and $22.99, respectively.

Has anyone seen any nice BN-themed tshirts or hoodies? Or anything that a BN-obsessed fan might like for xmas?

I am curious, are the Bruce Campbell contributions to the commentaries on the DVD's any good? My wife is planning on picking up the season 1&2 pack from Walmart (since it is only $34 in Canada). Bruce Campbell did some hilarious commentaries for the Evil Dead Series (the only reason I have 2 copies of Army of Darkness is because the original verision I bought didn't have his commentary) so I am wondering how the Burn Notice commentaries compare.

The Season 1 commentaries are really great. Not just Bruce, but Jeffrey Donovan, Gabrielle Anwar, and Sharon Gless, plus Matt Nix and other writers did commentaries for scenes in every episode. In the Season 2 commentaries they did full episode commentaries for a few episodes, but they're not as interesting or funny.

Looks like the season 3 DVD set will be out on June 1st. From TVShowsonDVD.com:

Fox Home Entertainment hasn't formally announced it to retailers yet, but thanks to a full-page advertisement in the latest issue of trade journal Home Media Magazine, we're happy to tell you to expect Burn Notice - Season 3 on DVD this coming June 1st.

The ad also promises "a more revealing look behind the scenes", hinting at at least one featurette for extras. Cost is $49.98 SRP in the USA, and CA$69.98 SRP in Canada.

A different type of Burn Notice Merchandise. Inert Products, LLC's site notes that they supply props to various TV shows, including Burn Notice:

http://www.inertprod...ilm____tv_props

Some of their products: dummy Dragonov sniper rifles, inert SEMTEX & C-4 blocks, lots of dummy ammo, and a complete Jihadist bomb-making workshop (improvised table included.)

Anyone else pick up their S3 dvds today? Anyone else disappointed in the lack of hardly anything extra?

There's a little segment about stunts and then there's some pieced together footage from the BN panel at ComicCon (all of which I'd already seen on YouTube) and that's it. No bloopers, no deleted scenes, no commentary...nothing. WTH?

BurnNotice_USA on Twitter said that they're working on getting show merchandise to be available through NBC's online store. They're taking suggestions on what fans would like see for merch. If you have Twitter, you can drop them a line here.

If you haven't gotten the Burn Notice dvds yet (or want to convert a friend), Target has seasons 1&2 on sale for $9.99 each and 3 for $12.99.

The season 4 DVDs will be released on June 7 according to TVShowsonDVD, with considerably more content than season 3 (I know, not saying much).

S4 better have bloopers. I complained to Nix et al on twitter when I picked up S3 and there weren't any extras worth mentioning.
