I think Kris is one of the nicest, most unassuming contestants we have this time around. He seems to genuinely enjoy the music even the others sing which I think is great to see. And I love how I always see him dancing in the background.

I'd like to see how he'll do with the guitar. Is he the only finalist who can play one?

He does seem like he's a nice guy.

There seems to be a debate in other places about whether he's married or not. I didn't pay attention to Kris enough to see if he mentioned it on the show or if they highlighted "Kris' wife" in the graphics. I believe someone posted in a forum that he got married last September. All I've seen him say is in the post-round inteviews was that he'd been with the same woman for several years (sadly I've forgotten the question that prompted that answer)!

Don't know if the single or married issue will hurt him or not with his most fervent fanbase; the only way I think it will is if he is married and tries to hide it. And he may not be doing that at all; perhaps it just hasn't been highlighted.

If anyone can take Danny Gokey out of the running, it may be Kris. Will depend on the performances.

I think they asked him if he was a ladies man, or something equally as ridiculous. He's my favorite as of now, but we haven't really seen much of him. I loved the Hollywood clip and I liked "Man in the Mirror", even though I normally hate MJ songs on Idol.

I'm a little nervous about the possibility of him getting lost in the shuffle with the other 7 guys. However, he made it through from his group with virtually no screen time, so that could be telling.

Right now, Kris is also my favorite from the top 13. Yes, I like him because he seems like a great guy and seems to be enjoying himself very much and yes, he's cute, but first and foremost I'm a fan of his voice. Nothing OTT about it, just pure vocals.

I especially like his take on Over the Rainbow (same version that Castro did last year). His voice is beautiful there and it's a live version.

Yes, I think he better bring it next week, because some of the other guys seem to already have big fanbases. I don't really know how much of a fanbase Kris has right now, it might be bigger than I think.

I don't care if he's married or not, but he wears a ring where one usually wears a wedding ring, which he didn't seem to have at his audition.

They kept showing an attractive blonde girl during Kris' segments last week, which could well be his wife. Or his sister. Who knows?

Kris reminds me of Elliott Yamin and AJ Tabaldo from seasons past...just loving every second of his time on the show. He'll be fun to watch in the top 13.

He's one of my favorites right now (along with Adam and Anoop). I hope he does well, cause I think he's a lot more talented than we've seen so far.

Yes, he's married, they got married 5 months ago according to an article I just read.

Here is his contestant profile on Ai.com where he talks a bit about her too:

I like Kris, hope he gets far, but if he doesn't start strong, he will get lost in the crowd of early eliminees.
He has a nice tone to his voice in all ranges, and I often see him rockin it out in the back when others are singing.
I'm glad America voted him through, because if it were up to the producers or judges, they would have shoved him aside like Ricky Braddy or Mishavonna Henson or Kristen McNamara or Jesse Langseth or Felicia Barton.

Kris is married, the cute blonde they've shown in the audience is his wife, I think of only a few months IIRC. He seems like a very relaxed, nice guy and I like what I've heard of his voice. Hopefully he's more comfortable with his guitar and manages to make himself memorable next week.

Kris is my favorite as of right now this season as well. I love the fact that he got thru with no help from the producers, judges or an exploited sob story. Just seems like a cool guy that loves music. Seems like he wants to make it as a musician/singer and that's the only reason he entered the competition. I think a lot of people are underestimating him right now and I am very interested to see how he comes out of the gate. Interesting that the first week, the theme is Michael Jackson. I have no idea what he should sing but since MJ is often impossible for most on this show, the fact that he already had a good go of one of his songs bodes well for the first official round. Here's hoping he knocks it out of the park and asserts himself as more than just a pretty face.

I agree. His voice is outstanding. He's got far more in store for us.

I was very pleasantly surprised by Kris in his heat - initially I assumed he'd be just another pretty boy with a so-so voice, but I thought he was really good. He's not the strongest vocalist in the competition, but I think he'll be able to hold his own as long as he's savvy about his performances and song choices - if he can survive the first couple of weeks (and I think he is in some danger of going out early because he doesn't have as much of a profile as some of the others, though I'd peg Jasmine or possibly Megan to go out first) I think he could be one to watch. Also, I love watching him dance during the group numbers. The guy's got some impressive moves.

I'm kind of pulling for him right now because of the underdog factor. Isn't he the only finalist that didn't come in with a backstory and/or a lot of airtime? But, it's more of a vote against Idol, than a vote for Kris at this point. I need to see more before I can become a fan (or not).

I do think he is going to face a bit of an uphill battle, because he will probably appeals to the same demographic as Sarver and Danny. Also, my sense is that his natural performance style leans more towards understated, lull you in slowly. That's a tough sell on Idol's format. Either he will stay true to what he is and have the judges boo him as boring, or he will try to "make it interesting" and end up just looking ridiculous (think David Hernandez on Beatles night). There is a chance he will pull off something really endearing, like Jason's Daydreamin' performance, but I'm not holding my breath.

Aw, see, I think he could actually do a good job with "I Saw Her Standing There" (or something else uptempo and crowd-pleasing). I'm thinking he's got the "fun" personality to pull it off.

That's the weird thing about this new format...you really don't know what a lot of these contestants are capable of yet, with just one semifinal performance to go on.

I think Kris won't last long. Probably 9th or 10th. He's not a belter nor IMO, is his fanbase as rabid as Adam's or Gokey's. Simon will blast him with his "you're boring, indulgent choice, blah blah" critique. With that said, I love me some eyecandy. I'm resigned to the fact that he won't last long. At least his personality doesn't bug (unlike Megan, Adam and Gokey).

This guy came out of nowhere, but Jason Castro sorta did the same thing in semifinals last year and he ended up doing pretty well. If he doesn't sing some lame song tonight he might actually be a contender.

I'm kind of pulling for him right now because of the underdog factor. Isn't he the only finalist that didn't come in with a backstory and/or a lot of airtime?

Allison Iraheta got pretty much zero screen time before semifinals as well.

they at least showed her audition. Kris got next to nothing. They should show all 36 auditions instead of train wrecks that don't make it but AI was never about being fair. Simon even said so when they said they are looking to cast the top 12.

I noticed Kris when he was in the White Chocolate group sing. I have the episode on tivo, so I was able to watch it more than once. He has a really nice tone to his voice and he does not come off as nervous or stiff. I do believe his glory note in the middle of Man in the Mirror and his energetic performance is what got him noticed on that semi-final night which had nothing but dull and/or bad performers precede him. He made Man in the Mirror interesting, so I can't see him coming out and slowing it all down and boring us all to death with his song choices in the finals.

We'll see if Simon and or Randy starts throwing him under the bus from the get go. I hope not.

I think one of the worst things in the very early rounds is to be forgettable. The good people get through. The notorious people get through. And the people who have built some strong associations outside of singing (e.g. being blind, being Puerto Rican, etc.) get through. I think Kris's main challenge is to somehow stick. He can try to capitalize on his heartthrob status, but I doubt he will, since he is married and seems too modest. He can only try to be really good and very likable tonight, but it will be hard not to be overshadowed by the Danny/Adam/Lil juggernauts. I'm sure the judges will lavish attention on those 3 along with Anoop. I'm hoping Kris finds a way to pull it off. I think these early rounds are the most dangerous for him. Once the hype surrounding some of the contestants dies down, the playing field will be more level.

Stop being so nice, Kris or I'll like you even more. Just get off my TV so I would not start caring for one AI contestant again.

ETA: mmJellybean, Paula said he's sexy or something mundane as that. Randy commented on the Jason Mraz-ish vibe. Simon mentioned about hiding the wife which made the missus livid.

What did the judges have to say about his performance tonight? I missed the first half tonight but I was curious to what kind of feedback/setup he received. (I'm voting for him regardless.)

The judges were good to him, which was a relief. I couldn't hear the guitar at all, which was too bad. I hope he makes it through tomorrow because a season made up of Danny Gokey, Scott McIntyre and Michael Sarver is one I won't watch.

I really liked him tonight once again. I felt like he put his own twist on the song and he wasn't "karaoke" as the judges like to put it. His enthusiasm is contagious. And him and his wife make the cutest couple. I fear for him though, I hope he has a chance to sing something else than Michael Jackson songs!

I thought he did great tonight and really showed off his vocals. Very good except for one part in the final third of the song where his voice cracked a few times, but overall, I really liked it.

I would have never in a million guess that he was MARRIED. I'm sorry, I thought he was like 16.

Whoa. I agreed with Simon, with whatever he meant about hiding the wife.

I thought he sounded awful. I know "Remember the Time" isn't a song where you can have a great vocal, but he turned the song into lots of random shouting and off-key yelling. I'm sure it's not intentional, but there's also too much of this half-smile, half-smirk, the kind someone has which can come off as looking like they think they're adorable, even if they don't want to say so out loud.
