Now I may not be hooked on the show yet, but I can't say anything bad about the music. In fact I'm downloading the song from the opening credits (Bad Things by Jace Everett) right now.

Rants, raves about the score go here. (And if anyone knows the song from the end credits of this first episode, I would appreciate it.)

True-blood.net has the music listed, and confirms that Little Big Town's "Bones" was the end-credit song.

Not sure if this belongs here or should be its own thread, but how about songs we'd like to see on the series too? Let It Bleed just began playing on my itunes playlist, and I think it's perfect for this show.

I would love it if they used The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove by Dead Can Dance. Not only is it PERFECT both musically and lyrically, but it's a Goth (aka Fangbanger) staple and just an all-around gorgeous song.

Amen, Door! There are plenty of other Dead Can Dance songs that would also fit right in--"The Carnival is Over" would be awesome. I'd also love to hear "Blood Letting (The Vampire Song)" by Concrete Blonde as it fits right in with the sultry Louisiana setting. "Temple of Love" by The Sisters of Mercy would be a good tune for a Fangtasia scene. I wish I could just score an entire episode.

Ooh, good choices! You know, they do use Blood Letting in some of the promos, along with White Zombie's More Human Than Human (for Fangtasia scenes, naturally). The inclusion of those two songs made me feel before I even saw the episode that someone was making this show just for me. Hee!

On another note, the score is very pretty. In episode two we get to hear a lot more of Bill and Sookie's theme and it's a wonderful piece of music.

The opening music is absolutely perfect. I think this show has some of the best opening credits I've ever seen.

I can't believe that's not Chris Isaak singing "Bad Things," by the way. It really sounds like him.

Thus far, I love the music for this show. It's apt atmospherically, and there's also a wit and intelligence to it, to boot.

My favorite aspect of the score so far is the use of a solo cello for a lot of Sookie and Bill's scenes. It's also got a nice backwoods slide to it that is very apropos to the feel of the show. (Stylistically, it's very much like Yo Yo Ma's work on "Appalachian Journey" -- you don't hear much in the way of bluegrassy cello...)

I also loved that song "Bones" at the end of "Strange Love," the lyric about "what comes around" was spookily apt, and it's very evocative of that classic country-rock of the 70s to me.

I think this goes here -- anybody have a link to a clip of the opening credits/theme song? I want to send it to a friend to pique her interest in the show, but I can't seem to find a clip. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Do a search for 'opening credits for "True Blood"' and you will find several video clips on YouTube.

Am listening to some Leonard Cohen and I think there are several of his songs that would be interesting in this series somewhere. It would depend upon the context, and it isn't too literal. But I get sort of the same haunted feeling from some of his songs as from some things in this series.

Who By Fire, If It Be Your Will, and That Don't Make it Junk might do. Or Take This Longing. There are lots.

What's the tune in Episode 3 when Sookie walks into Bill's place with the tacky trio sniffing her?

Echoing, especially "Who By Fire." Also: "The Stranger Song," "Master Song," "Avalanche," and "The Partisan."

Speaking of that last, Sixteen Horsepower/Woven Hand are MADE for a soundtrack for this show. So is Apocalyptica.

Ooh yes, and speaking of "Master" songs, the vampire trio and all their 'master' talk made me think of NiN's "Meet Your Master".

This one I thought at first could be for Jason (the first verse, hehe) but other parts reminded me of Bill or Sam (third stanza). I really hope they use something of his at some point. Some really good Cajun music would be nice too.

This is probably equal parts how good the song is and how much I love the show already, but every time the opening credits come and that first twang sounds, my heart does a little cheer. Like, yeeeeees! let's go!

In "Escape from Dragon House," was that the Apollo Four Forty cover of "Don't Fear The Reaper" as they were entering Fangoria?

According to HBO's website, it's a cover done by Heaven 17. This music feature is a new addition to their TB main page. They must be getting a lot of well-deserved interest about the music in each episode.

I'm glad they are listing the music there... The music director and the casting director for TB are some of my favorite people right now.

Whoa, ok maybe I'm a little slow but I just realized that every episode is named for a song and the song is played during the episode! How cool is that? Escape From Dragon House was the Cambodian song they were listening to in the car.

(you probably have all noticed this already but I just figured it out so it's a neat moment for me.)

Anyway I think any song from the album Impeccable Blahs by Say Hi To Your Mom would be great - the whole album is about vampires but its not trying to be overly depressing or frightening, which I find refreshing.

Dengue Fever is receiving a lot of positive attention for their involvement with True Blood. The music selections are really drawing people in to the show and vice versa. I love a show that pays such attention to music! Alan Ball even mentioned in a promo spot that he often plays the desired musical selection for a scene on set in order to help create the mood. Genius.

Given that so far, the title of each episode is also a song featured, is it too spoilery/speculative to guess which artists/songs are going to be played next? Personally, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for "To Love is to Bury" being the Cowboy Junkies song because that's a great one. And "Fourth Man in the Fire" is a great Johnny Cash tune.

True Blood is seeping into everyday life for me, as the radio station I listen to at work is currently playing "That Smell" from the end of Episode 4, and they've never played it before (I listen to this station 9 hours Mon-Fri, so it's pretty redundant).

True Blood...it's invading our senses at every turn. ::diabolical laugh::

It definitely sounds like Isaak, although at the same time I wouldn't say it sounds like "Bad Things".

It's not Isaak, but its a good ringer.

I would love it if, at some point, the show used Luna's cover version of "Season of the Witch." Or, if we want something a little more fangbanger-y, why not this version? That would just be fun for me on a whole lot of levels.

Here's a video where Jace Everett talks about "Bad Things".

He pretty much admits its a pastiche of Johnny Cash and Chris Isaak.

Also, here's a video where a creepy old guy teaches us how to line dance to the song.

I'm really going to have to buy the original score when it's released. I've absolutely loved every piece of theme music I've heard so far.
