The three Contemporary guys shown (Matt, Thayne, and William) have different styles and I like Thayne's best. He dances with his whole body and from within.
There goes my favorite Contemporary dancer this season. Other than the Jazz, I think Thayne was wonderful in all his dances (including the numerous Ballroom, the Hip Hop,and the group performances) and I really enjoy his lyrical Contemporary solos (I wish they were much longer). Unfortunately his partners let him down, I would have loved to see him dance with a stronger partner, like Katee, and I was SO hoping to see him dance Travis' or Mia's choreography.
Nigel piled on the praise (“would rather keep Thayne and eliminate two girls”, and “you have been superb”) when Thayne was eliminated. Where were those praises on the performance nights? All Nigel did was to pick on the 'subjective' chemistry. Too late, the mistake was done when Comfort was saved over Chelsea, who might have some partnering issue but was at least a more versatile dancer.
This season has been a popularity contest and perceived chemistry trumps actual dancing/technique. I hope Thayne gets chosen as an alternate for the tour and that he benefits from the show's exposure to further his career.
Yeah, and I find it comforting that Cat clearly loves Thayne...the kiss, the pat on the head, the big hugs, and the defense against Nigel's attack. Cute.
More meaningful was his goodbye clip, which was one of the best-edited and most unique string of clips I've seen on here or on Idol. <snip>...made me wonder if he was very popular backstage.
