No cool music to discuss in this one. sigh.

Once again, the supporting characters are funny. Andrea interacting with Sam's parents is always good.

Kind of a sweet season finale. Nothing too spectacular, but it was probably as good as the average episode.

I enjoyed it. Not spectacular, but a great episode nonetheless. Chloe didn't annoy too much. The secondary characters are fun as usual.

I still can't imagine Bad Samantha and Todd having a relationship. It just doesn't fit. I couldn't see Bad Sam falling for this Todd.

Can't wait for the next season. This one was too short.

Once again Regina has the best lines. I loved it when Ahhndrea was at the door and Regina yelled 'Howard, do we need any drinking done around here?'

For the first time, though, I was kind of annoyed at Frank. His snootiness was kind of over the top this time.

I was definitely hoping for something a bit more exciting than Todd at the door with balloons. But I'll take it, I guess.

I'm still holding out hope that Timothy Olyphant comes back next season--and that Todd and Sam don't immediately jump back into a relationship.

I did love, "You've still got stuff here."/"I'll always have stuff here, Todd."

I also dug that it didn't take Todd a long time to decide that he did want Sam because she's Sam and not just because she's Not Chloe. That's consistent with the way he was originally written (In first few eps, he kept telling Sam all this stuff about herself that he'd retained--small things, big things--and he was starry-eyed).

And Chloe has some nerve talking about how they "deserved" each other. Like, oh, Miss Stuffed Bunny Defacer wants to take the high road. Great.

I thought I would come out of lurking to make a few comments. Although this season has been short (thanks writers), I really enjoy this little show. For me, Dena and Regina bring out the best laughs. Howard (Hayseed) and Andrea have their moments of funny. Considering the lack of activity on this board, I hope this show can keep up momentum for next season. I do have one question about this episode, what happened with Dena and Chapman? I would have thought Dena would have invited him to the party. Funk would have been a good invitvee. Although I did like the "good looking seventh grade class" party goers. Was it mentioned anywhere that Dena was back to her stalking ways and scared off Chapman? I liked Dena having that side of her revealed.

This episode was kind of boring actually. I couldn't believe that this was a season finale. No cliff-hanger? At the very least, I thought they'd leave us with some question as to her memory! That was seriously weak.

Also, this episode re-affirmed by general Todd ambivalence. I was really into them at the beginning, now not so much. I like her and Funk together much more. Def. hope Timothy Olyphant makes another appearance next season. He was one of my favorite characters and one of the few that consistently didn't grate.

Love love love Deena! Also wondered where Chapman was.

I do have one question about this episode, what happened with Dena and Chapman?

My general assumption was that the episodes were taped out of order and that they didn't know if Deena and Chapman would be together, so they didn't write it into the episode. Otherwise, there is no explanation as last week they appeared to still be together and Deena didn't mention that they had broken up. I seriously hope they didn't ruin that ship because I actually thought they were really cute together. Loved how Deena asked for Sam's birthday candle after Todd appeared lol!

Please, just go ahead and give Jean Smart the Emmy already for best supporting female in a comedy.

My general assumption was that the episodes were taped out of order and that they didn't know if Deena and Chapman would be together, so they didn't write it into the episode.

They probably hadn't budgeted for him to be in this episode, is my guess. Tracy and he both had four episodes, and even Howard was missing from one. Keeping supporting cast members out of episodes reduces production costs, which Veronica Mars taught me all about.

I can't think of anyone in a sitcom supporting actress role right now better than Jean Smart. There are a ton of great supporting actors (Entourage, The Office, a bunch of others...), but other than Jaime Pressly for MNiE, I can't think of any right off the top of my head. Even 30 Rock is more actor-focused, with Jane Krakowski really funny, but in a slightly smaller role this year.

After further review, I liked this episode more. It was true to the spirit of the show, and Sam going to the hospital to find the "fake" relative was a nicely-done scene. The "Wendy" / "Gwendolyn" / deceased lady thing was pretty funny, though a wee bit creepy.

Thanks for the insight on how supporting characters are handled on shows. I'm glad I didn't miss anything about Dena and Chapman.

I also thought that the writers and producers might not have known if they were being renewed when this was written and filmed, so had to provide some closure rather than a cliff-hanger, just in case. If the series had ended here, we would (I would) be assuming that Sam would be calling Todd again at some point.

That's a great point. Even if they had been "officially" renewed (which had happened a while ago), it's not unheard of for a network to change its mind on a show because of slumping ratings. Whether they were or weren't renewed, it was nice to see an ending keeping to the spirit of the show, which was never big on "shocking twists". I'm glad they chose to go with the semi-closure ending, regardless of what S2 will bring.

I just love CA, but I would so totally watch the Dena, Andrea, and Regina show, with Howard as the only male actor. All three characters are so nicely drawn, and the actresses normally just nail it. This episode was no exception.

Well, I don't want to see this thread die, so here are some casting sides and episode titles for season two.

Episode 2×01 “Out of Africa”:
Brent
Early 20’s, any ethnicity. This attractive young guy is just out of college and this is his first trip post graduation. He does body shots off of Samantha in Miami and they flirt briefly on the beach. He is your typical fraternity spring breaker. One Day Guest Star; Female Aid Worker
Any ethnicity. Samantha sees this woman on a TV program, helping raise money for villages in Africa. She lets the audience know that it does not take much. sptv050769. Co-Star;

Waitress
Any ethnicity. She bring shots to Samantha and crew. Co-Star;

Panhandler
Any ethnicity. This gulf-war veteran type is panhandling on the street and asks Samantha for a dollar. She lets him know that she has lots of dollars because SHE has a job. Co-Star.

Episode 2.02 will be called "So I Think I Can Dance".

I caught two episodes of this show for the first time yesterday (Annie and the car into the lake one). I'm not usually home to watch TV on Tuesdays, but if I am home- it's definetly watchable, and unlike many shows- fairly easy to watch if you haven't seen all the previous episodes.

The skinny best friend annoyed me so much though, but she really wasn't around too much.

My question is- didn't a whole season of this kind of get old? I mean both episodes were basically the same. I get the whole lost memory premise, but do the fans worry they are running out of ideas fast? (Especially since apparently it was a short season) Does the character really have any growth?

Skittl1321, I also was annoyed by Andrea and her snooty attitude at first, but once she started being friendlier to Dena and more like one of the "gang," she got more fun and enjoyable.

There were a few episodes that were somewhat predictable, but it seemed like the later part of the season had fewer amnesia-heavy plots, and more Sam growth. I thought that My Name is Earl might get old fast, but they kept finding ways to keep it interesting, so I'm hoping the writers here will give us some nice twists and multi-show plot arcs in S2.

Both Christina and Jean were nominated this morning for Emmys, Lead Actress (Comedy) and Supporting Actress (Comedy) respectively. Source

I have to say, I would really love Jean Smart to win. She practically steals the show as Regina.

Also, the second season is due to debut on October 6th, at 9.30pm. YAY! Source

I think this show got a big boost, viewer-wise, when put on the schedule after Dancing With the Stars. While it's not a show that you hear other people talking about the next morning, I think it's fairly popular.

Damn! She had a double mastectomy (link). For some reason, it hadn't clicked with me that her diagnosis was that dire. What a painful decision to make.

She'll undergo reconstructive surgery over the next eight months. "I'm going to have cute boobs 'til I'm 90, so there's that," she joked in the interview, which aired Tuesday. "I'll have the best boobs in the nursing home."

Hee! Love the gallows humor.

I wish her a speedy recovery from her surgery. She's not the first person I've heard of to have a preventative mastectomy, but I agree it must be a very difficult decision.

The superficial part of me is thinking that they'll have to give Samantha a whole new wardrobe.

She can wear prosthetics until her reconstruction surgery, but like I said, she'll need a new wardrobe. I think a lot of her outfits were braless, and that's not going to happen this season.
