New and returning posters: please make sure you've read, and are familiar with, the site FAQ.

Another good page to read before posting is our general list of Dos and Don'ts.

STAY ON TOPIC

We have many threads so I'm sure you'll find one to fit you. Check your post and the title of the thread you're going to post it in. If it doesn't fit, move it to a thread that does. You're welcome to state that you're taking that discussion to the appropriate thread.

BE RESPECTFUL

Please remember to be respectful of other people's opinions even if they differ from your opinions. Please be careful with the "I don't get why everyone thinks..." and "I'm shocked to hear so many people say..." and "I can't understand why people think..." phrasing. If someone expresses an opinion you don't understand, try asking a particular poster for clarification instead of just being shocked and amazed. The level of astonishment is a bit over-the-top sometimes, and even if it's not meant to antagonize, it reads as hostile.

There's a difference between "I strongly disagree with X," and "I can't believe anyone thinks X." Just about every opinion you can imagine is probably held by someone here at TWoP. We don't want anyone to feel like only certain views are welcome. So try to express yourself without implying that anyone who disagrees is self-evidently a lunatic.

EPISODE THREADS

The episode threads get busy so here are some things to keep in mind from our general Dos and Don'ts:

DON'T post the same opinion over and over in the hopes of wearing other people down or "winning" a discussion; just move on

DON'T post in a thread until you've read at least the last fifteen pages or days of content

DON'T post "Me Too!" messages; add something of substance to the conversation

DO use proper spelling, capitalization, punctuation, et cetera

SPECULATION IN EPISODE THREADS vs SPECULATION

You can speculate in the episode thread if it has something specific to do with that particular episode. If it gets more general, please take it to one of the Speculation threads.

Example for "Ji Yeon": I think Hurley was glad none of the other Oceanic 6 were coming because he and Sun are passing Ji Yeon off as their child and he didn't want one of the others to screw that up = speculation allowed in episode thread.

I think Ji Yeon is going to turn out to be special like Walt = general speculation.

PREVIEWS

Please remember that discussion about the preview for next week's episode does not happen in the current episode thread. Take it to either of the Speculation threads. Also, the preview (by itself) is not considered a spoiler.

MEDIA THREAD

Please use the media thread for linking to and light discussion of articles, and other Lost media. If you want to discuss or analyze something at length, please take it to the appropriate discussion thread instead.

And appropriating from TWoP Barnes and Demian:
THE D.E.M.I.A.N. TREATY:

Devolving English Makes Itchy Angsty Nastiness. Damn Everyone Moderator Is Angry Now. Demian'll Eviscerate Initial Abusing Nimrods.

We aren't posting in code. We're posting in English, or at least American. Please spell things out. If your poor little fingers are too tired to do so, then you should probably rest up, and maybe not post at all. At the very least, please spell everything out once in each post. If you've already typed out, "All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues," once in a post, nobody's going to object (aloud) if you then abbreviate it to ATBCHDI in the same post, but nobody's going to object (at all) if you spell it out each time, either.

Darlings, Endless Meaningless Initials Aren't Nifty.

NOTE FROM LTG:

If you ever have comments/questions/praise/criticism/angry insults that you want to aim in my direction, feel free to e-mail me at ltg.jon@gmail.com. (If there is a factual error in a recap, you should feel free to post about it in the episode thread. But any other thoughts that are about the recap as opposed to the episode are best addressed in e-mail.)

Is it time for Charles Widmore to have his own thread? He has become a more significant character than simply "Penny's father", and from what happened in "The Shape of things to Come" I'm sure he will continue to play a key role as things develop. If you think this is a good idea, what would be the best name for the thread? Is that worth a poll?

Yes, Widmore definitely deserves his own thread. The only sub-title I can think of is "Charles Widmore: Will He Die of A Heart Attack?" so you can put up a thread and I'll take a poll in it.

Sorry, I posted this in the new Widmore topic.

Shouldn't there be a new subforum now called "Who's who off the island?"

Subforums are a bit more work to set up and I don't think it would be necessary for the recurring characters that are off-island only.

Sun I know you're avoiding Spec w/Spoilers like mad, but DarkUfo is beginning to post major spoilers about the 3 part finale and some of it is getting spoiler tagged. Should those of us who have been spoiled to the major points continue to tag or is it fair game? Since it is the Spec w/spoil, I'm not in the habit of tagging any of my comments and I don't want to get in trouble.

Unless TWoP Bayliss has stated a different policy in the Spoilers & Spec thread, spoiler tags are unnecessary in there.

If you go into the Spoilers & Spec thread, be prepared to be spoiled.

On the same topic of Spoilers, if it's not presumptuous of me, would you maybe remind those that are spoiled to be extra careful what they post in the non-spoilered threads? In the most recent ep thread, there's some discussion of a major kiss coming up. I might be off base and that info is included in the promos for the finale, which I haven't seen. But if it's not, there's some minor spoiler leakage that's making it's way into the other threads. I know all other Lost sites are overcompensating since DarkUFO posted the big spoilers for the finale, so maybe a gentle reminder here might work?

But then again, I just realized, you don't go into the Spoilers thread, so this might be moot. ANYWAY, I am just hoping I can still visit TWoP and remain truly unspoiled until the finale. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that's something they creators have promised in interviews. Not sure how that falls on the spoiler rules, but there you go.

Also, hasn't "Who's Who On the Island" always included characters who never set foot on it? Like Penny? It's just a nifty title for our characters subforum.

Re: the subforum - yes, pretty much.

MsMayComo, I can tell you as someone probably as spoiler free as you can get hanging around these boards (yay, TWoP Bayliss!) that your question topic was in a TVGuide article (not one of Ausiello's "spoilers") which is considered mainstream media and therefore not a spoiler. Sorry.

As far as I can tell, everyone is doing great sticking to our spoiler policy - so thanks guys!

Since I'm pretty new here, I'm a bit confused about when episode discussion strays into speculation. Could you please clarify?

The No Spoiler Speculation thread must be 400 pages long, so I have no idea where to try to dive in.

Forgive me for not finding this info in the FAQs area, but how do I keep tabs or "mark" how far I've read in a very long thread so I can return to that page or post?

I'm so glad I found this site after being a rabid fan for 4 seasons. Thanks for all the hard work!

In my mega-post of announcements in the first post here is an example of when episode talk turns into pure speculation. If you have more questions about it, feel free to PM me.

Your cookies only save what the thread is up to (say post 5 on page 362) when you enter the thread. So if you you only read up to post 10 on page 300 then leave, its still going to remember you back to post 5 on page 362.

You can a) write it down when you leave or b) click on the Post # of the post you're up to (eg. your post was Post #12) and copy & save the link it gives you in your clipboard to post in your browser later.

We're more of the lazing-on-the-beach-in-the-sunshine-drinking-boat drinks-and-eating-wild-roasted-boar-while-watching-pretty-people-frolic-in-the-ocean forum. Really. We haven't seen other recappers disappear in a weird column of smoke. Honestly. Welcome ashore!

Welcome back to a new season of Lost! (Finally!)

New and old posters, please make sure you read the first mega post in this Announcements thread before posting tonight.

Please also remember that these boards are very busy and will probably get 3+ pages of posts at 11:03pm so be somewhat forgiving of repetitive posts that early on. And remember that, in general, posters are posting their opinion and shouldn't have to put IMO in every line to get their point across.

Now - onto the show!

Maybe someone open up some sort of "Temporal Mechanics" thread for all the timey-wimey nerdery that's bound to result from the direction they seem to be going? I'd open it myself, but I don't have any sort of comprehensive theory to kick things off with... I just REALLY like those discussions, and it would prolly take a little bit of the strain off the episode threads for people who actually want to discuss such trivialities as the acting and writing... just an idea.

(I know there is a "Lost Timeline" thread I could've bumped, but that seems more about putting the story in the right order, less about figuring out how the show's internal "Rules" work)

I agree. Now that they are definitely going with time travel, I think we need a thread to talk about it.

If someone wants to start one, go ahead.

If something that is unclear on the show itself is cleared up in an official (ABC-sponsored, with participation by Darlton, etc.) podcast, does this information count as a spoiler?

ETA: awesome, thanks!

Good question!

I'm going to state that if it is about an episode that has already aired on the East Coast of the U.S., then info given by podcasts etc is not a spoiler.

May I speculate on episodes already aired in the Speculations without Spoilers or are they still considered spoilers?

TWoP rules are if they have aired on the east coast of the U.S. they are no longer spoilers so tags are not necessary.

Season 5: The Element of Time Travel is the thread to discuss season 5 overall - arcs, themes, your likes and dislikes about it, how it compares to other seasons etc. The Timey-Wimey thread is the one in which you discuss aspects of time-travel that relate to Lost, and how much your head hurts.

Is it possible to reconsider having a spoilers ONLY thread?

The spoiler/spec thread, quite understandably, is huge. Weeding through the interesting speculation to find tiny little tidbits of actual sourced spoilers takes a LOST fanatic and endless patience.

I like reading spoilers, but hours of reading in hopes of even finding one is just not practical for those of us who like the show, but aren't quite that devoted.

No, sorry, we're sticking with the one-spoiler thread. TWoP is a discussion board - there are other places to get your spoilers from and here is where you can discuss them.

I would recommend skimming the thread for links and quotes if you do not want to take part in the discussion.

Sun, I posted a recap feedback poll. If it's okay with you, would you please pin it for a few days so people see it (maybe 'til the next episode). Also, please don't worry about my feelings too much (I want feedback) unless someone's being trollish.
