Since we didn't have a scheduling thread yet, here's the place to talk about when the show is airing, when and where it's been pre-empted, how it's doing in its time slot, and other related matters.

The ad during last night's American Idol claimed the Season Premiere was "one week from tonight", but the text said "April 1", which is in two weeks. I'm pretty sure the text was right.

Is it my bad memory or is the April 1st start date much earlier then previous seasons?

It could be that the show was rushed due to the writers strike. That might also explain the 3 additional contestants. The networks were concerned about when the strike would end. And now that the strike is over and new episodes are finally getting ready to air, some shows are going to hold new episodes to next season which will leave schedule spots to be filled. For example, 24 is not airing this year.

I am not sure how Hell's Kitchen works into all of that but that is my best guess as to why it is airing earlier the the last few years.

From Mediaweek:

American Idol led into the season-premiere of Hell’s Kitchen, which finished second in the overnights behind ABC’s Dancing With the Stars with 7.6/12 from 9-10 p.m. While one could argue that the retention for Hell’s Kitchen out of the second half of Idol was just 48 percent, the expected first-place finish among adults 18-49 lands it in the winner’s circle.

FOX Cooks Up Tuesday Demo Win

FOX took the lead at 9 p.m. with "Hell's Kitchen," 5.6/9 (it was also the night's top show in viewers, 9.3 million, and adults 18-49, with a 4.4 rating).

Is the show going to be repeated any other times during the week? The HK website through Fox only has the upcoming premier for Thursday at 9 and nothing else. I know I can watch it on-line but would rather watch on TV if the episodes are going to be re-aired.

The episodes did not re-air on Fox during the season. I saw them on the Reality TV channel but I am not sure if that was after the season ended or during the season.

Season 6 Airs This Summer! Two seasons in one year? Very cool. I've also sort of missed HK being a summer show.

FOX announced dates of Season Premieres this fall, and a HK premiere is listed for Tuesday, September 29. Which means that Season 7 is also airing this year, which makes three seasons in one year. Wow. (Either that, or the article confused it with Kitchen Nightmares which is supposed to return this fall). Kind of a HK overload (I have no problem with it though).

And only a little over a month to go until Season 6 starts.

ETA: It's starting to look like Sept. 29 is just a new episode, not a new season, so the article was kind of misleading. Either way, a 7th season is on the way, just not sure when.

With Two Episodes this week and last week, it looks like FOX is burning off episodes this season.

A quick search and it appears the show is holding its own in the magical 18-49 section, against Game 6 of the NBA Finals last week it was "best of the rest" and the premiere had stronger numbers than last season/year.

Any ideas?, has Fox got something its itching to debut on Tuesdays, so they want to get HK out of the way?

Masterchef USA is planned to air on July 27. It would fit then if they burned off all of this season's remaining HK episodes by then and went straight into the other show, which is supposed to run for 12-15 episodes, and then did the next season of HK in September. Or, "All Grr All The Time."

That sort of schedule does raise or verify questions about when these seasons were filmed...

I wondered about them finishing HK In time for Masterchef premiere also. But unless I am mistaken FOX have run HK and Kitchen Nightmares concurrently in the past.

Season 7 was filmed back to back with Season 6, so they have had it in the can for 12-18 months now. But Season 4/5 were filmed back to back as well, and they did not "double up" on episodes then.

It looks like the next two weeks also have double episodes. At this rate, the season will be done before Masterchef USA debuts!

I'm beginning to wonder if double episodes of HK is a good idea. One episode of HK is much the same, over/under/badly cooked risotto/scallops/wellies etc.

At least with regard to last week, the double episodes are still pulling in good ratings (such as they are in the summer), so it seems like a good move for them. Evidently a lot of people don't get tired of two consecutive hours of Grr being encouraged to yell at people. (To balance it out, I'd be happy if he doesn't yell at all during Masterchef.)

If they cut out all the yelling, smoking, whining, and rewards/ punishments, they could show the rest of the season in one evening and be done with it.

Isn't that what they do with the first 20 minutes of the finale episode?

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the scheduling, so I thought I'd clear it up. They are not going to be airing two hour episodes for the remainder of the season. There's a two hour episode next week, but on July 13 there will be no episode because FOX is airing the MLB All Star Game. There's a two hour episode on the 20th. After that, beginning July 27, Hell's Kitchen joins MasterChef on Tuesday nights and that continues up until the finale on August 10. There will apparently be two chefs eliminated in the July 27 episode, even though it's only an hour long. Beginning on August 18, MasterChef moves to Wednesdays and goes to two hours. Hell's Kitchen returns for another season in the fall.

This is all according to The Futon Critic - http://www.thefutonc...ednesdays/8726/

That would make the second hour go head-to-head with Top Chef.

And I was wondering why I was so cranky all week! I didn't have my Hell's Kitchen fix.

According to The Futon Critic, Season 8 begins on September 22. And, just like with this season, they'll be doubling up on episodes. There'll be four weeks of doubled-up airings from 9-22 to 10-13 for a total of eight episodes. After that, the program takes some time off (for the baseball postseason, I expect), returning on November 10 with once-per-week airings.

Hmm, I don't think so, because the show wasn't officially renewed for an eighth season until August of last year.

Its only been because they taped the most recent seasons back to back that this has happened.

Season 4/5 were taped back to back around the beginning of 2008

Season 6/7 were taped similarly in early 2009

Its Probably more to do with Grrr's availability/willingness to be in the US for an extended period than anything else, I believe it takes about 3-4 weeks to tape a season.

Season 8 was taped during the first part of 2010.

I was able to eat at Hell's Kitchen during a taping of an episode for Season 8.
