This game is stolen straight from the Buffy thread! For those of you like tournaments, this game allows for head-to-head matchups of all things Gilmore! Using some handy-dandy software that will prevent me from using math to set this thing up, all 153 episodes of Gilmore Girls will face off to find the best one. Usually in sports, teams are seeded from best to worst. I just did it alphabetically and 26 episodes will have to fight it out more than once to get an equal bracket, but it's all fun! In this round, Will You Be My Lorelai Gilmore? received a bye, so it will automatically advance. To determine a winner, it is the episode with the most votes, wins each round, and the loser is out (except to determine third place). I'll leave voting open for a minimum of 12 hours.

There will be 90 match-ups before each episode has had a turn, so we'll vote 5 matches at a time.

First five matches:

1. A Deep-Fried Korean Thanksgiving vs. Teach Me Tonight

2. A Family Matter vs. Ted Koppel's Big Night Out

3. A House is Not a Home vs. That Damn Donna Reed

4. A Tale of Poes and Fire vs. That's What You Get Folks, For Makin' Whoopee

5. The Festival of Living Art vs. Pilot

3. TDDR
4. AToPaF (this one was surprisingly HARD as I actually appreciate the angst in the other)
5. Pilot

A huge thanks to River for opening the game and to Rach for originally suggesting it and helping to plan. The one in the Buffy forum has been one of the best games I've ever played, and I have no doubt this will at least equal its awesomeness!

1. A Deep Fried Korean Thanksgiving (You guys know how much I love nearly all S2 episodes, and TMT isn't an exception...I just love ADFKT even more. Plus, I did think the whole car accident thing played out as a little too After School Special-ish!)

2. Ted Koppel's...(I know this one's unlikely to win, but I actually think it's got a lot of great moments. Plus, I'll pick an episode featuring my beloved Digger over one that gives us the IMO impossibly grating Liz any day!)

3. That Damn Donna Reed---I like this one much less than most GG fans do, but it gets my vote because Rory wore an apron instead of, say, getting arrested and dropping out of college.

4. A Tale of Poes and Fire---A fairly good S6 or S7 episode vs. an awesome S1-S4 episode will never be much of a contest for me!

5. The Festival of Living Art---I think GG's pilot is okay as far as pilots go, but it still had the awkwardness and 'clunk' factor that IMO most pilots suffer from. Meanwhile, FoLA is one of the many S4 episodes that doesn't initially stand out as being a 'must see' but is quietly excellent and gets even better with multiple viewings.

Digger love!

Solidarity, sister! [Lorelai, LHCDS]. A lame and overused quote by now but, sadly, I couldn't resist ;)

By the way, one of the awesome things about this game is that there's no issues with cross-posting and accidentally missing people's votes!

Yay for the game!

1. Teach Me Tonight: One of the few times I've really gotten the Rory/Jess love thing. Plus, the Lorelai/Luke fight is such an emotionally raw and powerful scene. Plus, I love all of the movie humor.

2. Ted Koppel's Big Night Out: Two of my least favorite season 4 episodes are the A Family Matter/Nag Hammadi combo. I just find Jess's season 4 return so...blah. On the other hand, I love Ted Koppel's crazy Yale stuff, plus we get funny Digger and good Gilmore family dynamics.

3. A House is Not a Home: I have issues with TDDR's Rory/Dean plot, so I'm going to be strange and vote for a season 5 over a season 1. Perhaps AHiNaH looks so great to me because it came after the awfulness of Kropogs and Booze and Melville, but I cry during Lorelai's "Looking in at Rory in the Poolhouse" moment every time I watch it (although I hate the Rory character assassination, of course.)

4. A Tale of Poes and Fire: Although I really, really enjoy--I mean, like TWYGFFMW more than is healthy, I've got go with Poes here. Whoopee is in my top 3 episodes of season 7, while Poes is one of my top episodes of the entire series.

5. The Festival of Living Art: My easiest choice out of these 5 match-ups by far. Although the Pilot is adorable, it has a few moments that fall flat for me ("Did you do something slutty?"; Drella), while, excepting some of the teaser, I find TFoLA to be endlessly quotable and near perfect.

1. Teach Me Tonight - I've always enjoyed this episode, especially Kirk's movie and I think the L/L fight is brilliant and very realistic

2. A Family Matter - I actually liked Liz's first appearance

3. That Damn Donna Reed - I can take or leave the Rory/Dean stuff, but I like that at least once Lorelai admitted she might have feelings for Luke and "Stella!"

4. A Tale of Poes and Fire - The ending is so sad, and I love the whole Poe subplot and Rory deciding between Yale and Harvard

5. The Festival of Living Art - I'm voting for it just for the incredible makeup

Yay for a new game. Thanks River.

1. ADFKT. Sookie being en-scotched
2. A Family Matter. I like Luke's Family is like a big spill
3. That Damn Donna Reed. Behind the counter moment/Stella
4. ATOPAF. Probably my favorite season three episode. "Baseball bat? Cricket." and the dream talk
5. Pilot. I thought it set up the show nicely

1. A Messenger, Nothing More (I'm not a huge S5 fan, but I'm always pleasantly surprised by how much I love those first three episodes)

2. There's the Rub (This is by far the easiest vote so far for me. I adore There's the Rub, while AVV is among my very least favorite episodes of the entire series)

3. Presenting Lorelai Gilmore (I know many love Fight Face, but I really dislike it. Between the Lorelai-Rory rift and the heavy dose of TJ, I can't bear to watch it!)

4. A-T, A-T (Though I actually don't like either of these episodes much)

5. They Shoot Gilmores, Don't They---(how awful that two deeply beloved episodes have to go up against each other so early! For me, though, it was an easy choice---F&S is way too Hallmark-y and mawkishly sentimental for this show IMO, while TSGDT is perfect on so many levels: the beautiful look of it, the fact that the love triangle is finally resolved and in a very poignant way IMO, the interesting L/L interaction brought on by the Jackson-Sookie fight, the awesome scenes with Mama Kim, Lane and Dave Rygalski, the perfect SH townie event goodness, that powerful yet hilarious final scene where Kirk does his victory lap to the theme of Rocky while Lorelai hugs a sobbing Rory in the middle of the gym ....I know F&S will probably beat TSG,DT, though, so I'm already stocking up on Kleenex!)

Edited because apparently when I deeply care about a certain episode, I become unable to type or spell!

1. A Messenger, Nothing More: One of my favorite 'sleeper' episodes. I love the Rory/Lorelai, Luke/Lorelai, Hot and Rich Signboard Emily, and the dealing with the Rory/Dean aftermath. What happened in That'll Do Pig besides Trix?

2. There's The Rub: Let's see: a season 2 episode of quotable goodness and great Lorelai/Emily and Rory/Paris bonding over a season 6 episode filled with stupidity, offensive jokes, and character assassination? Nah. Besides, the Paris/Rory/Jess book discussion is one of my favorite moments of the entire series.

3. Presenting Lorelai Gilmore: PLG has some funny lines and an interesting Gilmore clan plot. I really don't like Fight Face. I can usually deal with TJ, but not there.

4. The Prodigal Daughter Returns: I actually love this episode, and dislike A-Tisket, A-Tasket.

5. They Shoot Gilmores, Don't They?: A difficult choice, but TSGDT wins out because of its higher level of humor and townie zaniness. And (small voice) I like Dean's freakout rant at the dance.

Yeah, that's a big part of it for me. I feel like F&S is an episode you could (and maybe have) seen on most dramedies, but TSGDT is so unqiuely, quintessentially GG-esque.

And (small voice) I like Dean's freakout rant at the dance.

You can make your voice large here, because ITA. I normally hate Dean, but I adore the snarky, rant-prone Dean we get in parts of S3.

Again, ITA with every word. But I'd also like to add that this episode introduced me to the wonder of putting both salt and pepper on fries, and for that I will always be grateful ;)

Fun!! I'm sad that I missed the first round though. *pout*

1. That'll Do, Pig - Had a hard time with this one. I love how excited Liz is for Luke in AMNM, and I quote 'What's that Lucy, a football for me to kick?' more than is normal, but TDP has some of the funniest Trix/Emily stuff ever. Stressed Emily cracks me up.

2. There's The Rub - Hands down. TTR is one of my most favorite eps ever. I love the whole Rory/Paris/Jess scene (until Dean shows up acting like an idiot) and the Emily/Lorelai stuff is classic. I love it when Emily matches Lorelai's snark effortlessly.

3. Presenting Lorelai Gilmore - I just really enjoy this one.

4. A-Tisket, A-Tasket - Love love LOVE Sookie and Jackson getting engaged, love Rory and Jess on the bridge. The look on Jess' face when he eats the nasty leftovers and Rory giggles at him "Dean never would have fallen for that" is just lovely. And Mrs. Kim trying to figure out how to get Lane and Henry back together when she finds out Henry is Korean is awesome. "Maybe I could call his mother." Heh.

5. They Shoot Gilmores, Don't They? - As much as I love F&S, especially Luke in the hospital, TSGDT is one that has really grown on me with every viewing. There's not much I don't love in this one. And Jackson heckling Lorelai about having a say in his and Sookie's life is so, so funny. Also, I don't think there's a single eppie where Lorelai and Rory are as freaking gorgeous as they are in TSGDT.
