Yeah, you are probably right. I just hear horror stories...also it is easier to tell the kids at the library that I don't have a facebook account when I actually don't have one. If they find out that I do, they will be clamoring to find a way into that, private or not. They probably would not be able to find my Livejournal account even if they knew that I had one, if only because I use an alias.

I know it's not supposed to be funny, but I sort of like the idea of kids clamoring to find the librarian's facebook account. I like to imagine they'd honor you, but that's probably not what would happen.

Hey r i. What's the weather like where you are? It's mostly like a desert here in Denver, but it's been a little rainy. Love the rain.

I have some of my students on facebook. I keep most everything blocked from them, but they're always excited I'll be friends with them. They're good, and I don't do anything I'd be ashamed of, so it works out fine.

Yeah, unfortunately, I cannot have that much faith in all of the kids who come in and out of my library. Most of them probably do not care about my life enough to scour through my Facebook, but there are those between the ages of 7 and 17 who do for some reason and they can cajole other kids who are savvy with Facebook to do something if they ever find out that I have one. I hate to think that any of them had been harassing other people who share my first and last name, but I know that they have at least found a few even when I told them that I do not have a Facebook account.

A couple kids tried doing a "biography" of me a couple of weeks ago. Instead of my usual practice of refusing to answer their personal questions, which would just lead them to make assumptions, I decided to just throw a bunch of obvious lies at them.

Ankai, sorry to sound ignorant, but what are you concerned about?

Flamey, it's a little hot, but the rains keep it down, but anyway, Bangalore has the best weather in India, so it's always awesome. It's hot in Cal,and the monsoons have stated/will start now.

I just like to feel as if I have some sort of control over the overlap between the different parts of my life. Facebook seems like too much of a hub to me, and there are too many variables that rely on other people who either don't know each other or dislike each other. The other internet things that I go to may not be any more secure than Facebook is, but they allow for levels of anonymity on top of that. I suppose that the kids could find out that I use this message board as well as livejournal and a couple of other places if they followed some of the clues that I may have accidentally dropped while talking to them, but setting up a Facebook account would make it too easy.

Also, I know that my father would demand to get involved if he found out that I had an account. And he would find out.

One more week until Season 4 of Breaking Bad. I am hyped up. Are you still watching, flamey or did it get too bleak?

Ah, too bleak for me, sadly. I really liked the actors and the story, but I just get antsy when all seems doomed.

I felt a little uncomfortable with FB when I went to Rotten Tomatoes to look up movie reviews and found an account had been created for me there, apparently using my FB account. They knew my FB friends who had visited RT and it was pretty creepy. I guess it doesn't matter, really, since I would have linked to my FB when I'd written a movie review or given a rating on RT. But it would have been nice for that to have remained my choice. All of the ways in which these social media outlets are connecting and uniting is potentially a very powerful single entity, and that kind of power always unnerves me, even when there's nothing that's clearly bad coming from it.

That is what I am worried about. That and getting pulled into a long-running screamfest regarding Justin Bieber. If it gets too heated in the library, I can just order everyone to be quiet or to be elsewhere. Not so much on the internet.

Fair enough. I remember you struggling with the show during the second season, but forgot if you stayed with it last year. In any case, it is not totally bleak all of the time.

Hello back another week later....

Heyya loosy-goosey! Tornadoes, hurricanes... other natural disasters... Ah... such is my life!

Hmmmm...What have I been up to? Being an awesome mom, as usual. Baby hurricane will be three this summer. I'm not sure where the time has gone. She's funny and has an amazing imagination already. She can play by herself with her toys for ages. She needs a haircut.

My big ol' hurricane we long suspected and was formally "diagnosed" with dyslexia a year or so ago. I spend a lot of time doing homework with her and it is horribly painful to watch her struggle in school. So you know, good times!

How goes it with you? Haunt away! I'll try to pop back in here before 2013.

800 even would be a nice milestone.

There are other kids in her school that have dyslexia and we have received wonderful support and accommodations for her and her challenges. She just started a program through the Free Masons and her tutor there is nothing short of an angel.

How are you, Ankai? Anything special going on in your life?

Nothing really happening with me. I am mostly getting ready for the summer programs here at the library. A bunch of kindergarteners are supposed to be coming tomorrow morning for a story reading.

Okay, a six-year-old boy started just casually saying "Sexy and I know it" while flipping through some books with his mother. Over and over again. He is not the first person to do that, but he is certainly the youngest. And he was not even doing it to tick me off like the other kids were.

Free Masons, eh? Well, it is good that your daughter is getting a lot of help.

Hey, Ankai. Europe is doing fine, at least some parts are. Itīs amazing how much you can get used to a constantly toted crisis-mode. But then, we are not yet touched by an economic downturn. Quiet the contrary, weirdly enough.
Personally, iīm working on becoming a paralegal now. A friend from school opened her own lawfirm, and since she knew i was looking for something permanent, she hired me. Itīs a fun job, and a very relaxed work environment. And weīre specialising in copyright law. Rather ironic, given my ...hobbies.
How are things with you Ankai? Still working at the same library? I can see, you still meet interesting kids. 6-year-olds who use the word sexy more than once are not my defintion of adorable. I think iīd go with annoying. Or creepy.

Sorry to hear that about your eldest, Jaye. But good on receiving support. I had schoolmates who were dyslexic, we made the matura together. I think once you get through the basics in school, establish a learning routine, and are able to play on your strenghts, it can get easier? I hope she has things in school that she enjoys.

Yeah, I heard that Germany is pretty much top dog in the deal, but France seems poised to upset things with the new guy and the situation in Greece has gone from major problem to plain insane.

I am still working in the same library. And the kid was with his mother who, after giving embarrassed giggles in response to the first few times, she mumbled "wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle yeah".

Congratulations on the job. What is your actual position? How long have you been working there?

I hadn't considered that you might have not understood the reference, loosy. Just in case, this. Be warned, it is probably not the best thing that you have ever seen or heard before. Apparently, that knucklehead is related to Motown's Berry Gordy.

I started working there 2 years ago. Itīs just my friend and me and one additional lawyer, but he works only parttime. Anyway, iīm the assitant, so itīs basic secretarial work with a legal emphasis, iīm handling the schedule, a bit of bookkeeping, billing, some research, communication with clients, that sort of thing. Itīs been going quiet well, so far we had 2 rooms rented at another lawfirm, but now we moved into our own rooms here. Like the architecture or not - space there is actually very popular - but itīs bigger and a lot nicer than what we had before.

I hadn't considered that you might have not understood the reference, loosy.

Well, i assumed it was some song, but youīre right. Thanks for the link, but itīs not working for me, youtube is blocking it. You know, they just lost a case at i believe the german supreme court, now they have to remove a lot of musical content and videos because of copyright infringements. Guess why i know this! Anyway, i recognized the name of the artist.

Glad you still got your job, transatlantic news sometimes sound like the country is becoming unglued. I hope the library system is not affected too heavily by the cutbacks in the public sector.

I heard that Germany is pretty much top dog in the deal

Yeah, weīve been expecting a downturn pretty much since 2008, like, every quarter economists would go:" Well, with this country in crisis and that downgrade, weīre going to take hits, export will suffer, prepare yourselfes" . And weīd be holding our collective breath, and each quarter unemployment would slowly but steadily fall, export is booming, consume is going up or holding steady... the general mood is so positive that i almost donīt recognize us anymore! Not that iīm complaining...

but France seems poised to upset things with the new guy and the situation in Greece has gone from major problem to plain insane

..and than thereīs that and news from Russia and and Spains unemployment and Hungary going stalinistic and the Ukraine, and Poland still beating up homosexuals... So thanks for getting me back to reality, guys, those pink glasses were starting to freak me out...

I don't have much to contribute to economic matters otherwise (ironic given I'm an Econ major). It's all too depressing for the most part.

Thanks. How are you doing?

It was hot here today. Not super hot, but just enough for me to find it unpleasant. Driving with the windows down brought in warm breezes. And the library region finally implemented the new circulation/catalog system, just a few weeks before my summer program starts. I am tired tired tired.

Still seems like it's only 5.

I have not even been properly working for five yet. It's coming up soon, though.

I hear that India has been faring pretty well economically, though growth has been slowing down a bit. Other than that, how are you, r i? Thinking of making a big move or something?

Over here weīre getting excited about the Euro starting tonight. Letīs see how the boys do this time around! And I'm in Bangalore actually. Not planning to move locations, but five years in the same company (which I will complete in September) is a good time to think about the future and if I'm where I want to be.

Maybe you should tell that to some people around this part of the world. Many people here think that it is a toss-up between China and India concerning what place is taking all of the American jobs.

Not really a promotion. There are no real higher positions that involve working with the kids. I like working with the kids despite whatever, though maybe I will be saying something different in a couple of weeks when summer is in full swing.

I donīt think Raul is playing for the selecíon anymore. But he was in Germany for the past two years, in Schalke. Successful and very revered, but now he left for Dubai or Doha, or something. Probably the last big paycheck of his carreer.... But how do like our Gomez, r.i.? Heīs ...sorta spanish. And heīs got a nose. And heīs tall. And iīm not just mentioning him because he just scored twice against Holland.
