Seems like Mad Men has got good "deal" with iTunes - new economy and all. For example, music can be rush released on iTunes and not avaialble on CD via Amazon.
Also, is there a market share for DVD release? Crossing Jordan has never been released on DVD, in part due to issue with music licensing hassles, I read somewhere.
I want a whole 20 minutes of DVD extras dedicated to Joan doing the Twist - all the Twist out takes.....what do others want????

Video of Jon Hamm being measured for one of Don's finely tailored suits.

My "extras" wishlist:
- More interviews with cast, including those in smaller roles like the junior execs
- Insight on the casting process (audition tapes!)
- Interviews with the costume designers, and displays of fashions
- Shooting scripts
And of course, commentaries with producers, directors, writers, and lead actors!

Ugh, music licensing... that's why I've been waiting almost 20 years for China Beach... >:S

The Making of Mad Men didn't do much for me - lots of head shots of the actors saying vacuous, obvious shit like "In the 60s, people drank much more than they do now." "Life was very different for women then." Thank you January Jones, PhD! Don't get me wrong, I love the cast, but so far they don't interview that well.
It's obvious, though, that MW did some serious research on the era - I'd like some insight into that and interviews with some of his sources.

I've gotten out of the habit of buying shows on DVD and have even sold off several that I used to own (yeah, Gilmore Girls, I'm lookin' at you), but this is one show-on-DVD that I will buy and keep.
Don't DVD release dates also have to do with how many times the episodes are aired, syndication agreements, etc.?

-commentaries to ALL episodes!
-BLOOPERS! This is a must. A LOT of them!
-Interviews
-Wrap parties
-Behind the scenes
-Outtakes(scenes that didn´t make it to viewing)
-Readings or what´s it called. When the actors come in and read for the roles.
-A SHORT historylesson and offcourse-the set. It bore me but I guess it´s interesting for others.
-I want to see a LOT about the actors.
-Castbiographies
-subtexts on everything, even the extra-material.

I've never heard of copyright protection preventing people from recording something on TV for later viewing.
It's out there. "Saving Grace" for example. Quite a few newer movies I've tried to record to disc ended up with the telltale "fullscreen/widescreen" jitters. Also, I've tried videotaping and then transferring THAT to disc but the copy protection screws that up too.
I'm looking forward to these DVDs. I haven't seen the whole season but love what I did catch.

Between the commentaries and the other extras on the Blu-ray set, there are seriously around 35 hours of material in total.

I just read this review of the S1 dvd from DVD Talk and noticed that the reviewer mentioned multiple commentaries for single episodes and I came over here to ask about them.
Considering Amazon is still selling the regular and blu-ray DVDs for just under $32 this has to be one of the biggest "bang for your buck" DVD sets I've come across.
I'm slightly ashamed of how excited I am to get Season 1 in the mail. Slightly.

Here's a list of participants per commentary. Just a quick note that I jotted these names down quickly and didn't proofread, so if I made any glaring spelling errors, don't be too miffed. Also, several of the commentaries that look like they have multiple speakers were recorded separately and pieced together. They weren't actually in the same room at the same time.
EPISODE 1: SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYE
1) Matt Weiner
2) Alan Taylor
EPISODE 2: LADIES ROOM
1) January Jones and Rosemarie Dewitt
2) Michael Gladis and Elisabeth Moss
EPISODE 3: MARRIAGE OF FIGARO
1) Jon Hamm, Maggie Siff, and Darby Stanchfield
EPISODE 4: NEW AMSTERDAM
1) Vincent Kartheiser, Allison Brie, and Lisa Albert
EPISODE 5: 5G
1) Jonn Hamm, Elisabeth Moss, and Aaron Staton
2) Lesli Linka Glatter
EPISODE 6: BABYLON
1) Christina Hendricks and Maria/Andre Jacquemetton
2) Andrew Bernstein
EPISODE 7: RED IN THE FACE
1) January Jones, John Slattery, Jon Hamm, and Vincent Kartheiser
2) Tim Hunter
EPISODE 8: THE HOBO CODE
1) Vincent Kartheiser, Elisabeth Moss, and Bryan Batt
2) Phil Abraham
EPISODE 9: SHOOT
1) Jane Bryant and Matt Weiner
2) Dan Bishop
EPISODE 10: THE LONG WEEKEND
1) Christina Hendricks and Matt Weiner
2) Tim Hunter and David Carbonara

I had pre-ordered a DVD on Amazon that got released this week and I didn't get it until today. If I was agitated over that (because arriving on the estimated arrival date is too late for me!), I am going to be absolutely bonkers waiting for this. I read a review where the guy particularly liked the commentary with Jon Hamm and John Slattery together, they have some very in depth details of what happened behind the scenes.
