Isn't anyone curious how our new Bachelor is doing in the ratings? Amazingly, there must be life left in the ol' franchise yet, as Brad's premiere episode pulled in a rating of 7.2/11 share in the first half hour and 6.3/10 in the second hour. Of course it probably owes most of that audience to its Dancing with the Stars lead-in. Overall, ABC won the night and the 18-49 year old demo.

For those in the Boston viewing area, also wanted to give a heads up that The Bachelor is being pre-empted tonight on ABC by our other favorite pretty boy, Tom Brady, for the Pats game. My TiVo says the episode is scheduled to air at 1:06 am on October 3rd.

agtpop, I'm in the Boston area. My TiVo schedule lists paid programming at that time and when I search on "The Bachelor," the only episode that comes up is the one airing October 8. What does your TiVo list for an episode title? I'd like to amend the thread title of tonight's episode, even if I can't watch it.

I'm in the Boston area too. I'd like to tape the episode, so please share details on when it will be shown. I'd rather see DwtS and Bachelor than Tommy Boy anyday.

I'm in Boston too but couldn't find a re-airing of TB anywhere. I think we got stuck with the double whammy of ESPN airing on Channel 5. I ended up watching the epi on line. Sorry to say, BossyGal, I was happy as pie to watch Tommy Boy trounce the creamsicles.

Hmmm, all these Boston folks... should I be looking over my shoulder?

Mousie, you need to find friends in Rhode Island. Cox doesn't pick up Boston channels at all anymore, so the Pats game wasn't an issue here.
Or if you're nimble afoot on rooftops and still have an antenna, you can bring in Channel 6 from Providence.

Seriously, the ratings for this show have to be in the crapper. Nobody's talking about it.

Well. Except for us.

Well, according to my Tivo, the Bachelorette starts next week with no "season in review" or reunion ep. I surely thought they'd show us the couple from the most romantic proposal ever again!

According to my Tivo there is a Bachelor and Bachelorette marathon starting on June 1st on VH1. It looks like it starts with Alex, even includes Trista and her wedding extravaganza, but oddly missing from the line up is Meredith and Ian.

The last few bachelors have been so very bad, I'm almost tempted to rewatch to see if it is the show that has changed or is it me. I mean I know it was never really very high-brow TV, but it did use to be better than it is now, right?

The Bachelorette ended the season on a high note, ratings-wise. Granted it was up against reruns, but a lot of people tuned in. 11 million viewers and first place in both households and the coveted 18-49 demo. Fleiss must look like a god to ABC right about now.

I thought I heard something about the show not being on the fall schedule. Does anyone know if the better-than-expected Deanna ratings changed that? If Jason or Jeremy is the next Bachelor (I strongly suspect it will be a guy from this season, given that is was a surprise hit) they may wait until spring so it leads up until the wedding.

Except that the Bachelor, himself, has already gone public that he's engaged.

Of course, that doesn't mean he necessarily asked someone from the show to marry him.

Or that they'll still be engaged by the time the finale airs. When would that be? This show has fewer episodes per cycle than most reality shows. I guess it would be sometime in March?

Get ready for supa-sized eps from here on out:

The network has decided to keep airing two-hour episodes of The Bachelor for the rest of its run this winter, thanks to fairly decent ratings for this cycle. That means that "Samantha Who?" which had been scheduled to return to ABC's Monday lineup next week, is for the moment homeless. The network says an announcement about the show's future -- which despite this development seems fairly solid -- will come in the next few days.

ABC's decision is a ratings-driven one, thanks to some gravity-defying numbers for current Bachelor Jason Mesnick. ABC has touted the appeal of the single dad, who was the final rejectee on "The Bachelorette" last summer, and it appears the network is right.

The current run has been averaging higher ratings than Matt's or Deanna's, with this past Monday's show watched by 2 million more TVs than their season averages.

The ratings continue to hold up well, even against tough competition.

I'm not sure if any of the women this season would make good Bachelorette figures, but I think the decision to bring back a former contestant for the Bachelor, and one who is a nice guy, has helped the ratings for this season.

Does anyone know the schedule for the rest of the season? Looks like tonight will be all of the hometown visits, then presumably 1 person eliminated. Then do they just do the next 2 weeks? This is my first season, so I don't know the usual shtick.

Generally, there is a "Women Tell All" episode where all or a subset of the women who got booted come back and snark about the "process" and the "connection" and a couple get all boo-hooey and want to know why the Bachelor booted them. The past couple of seasons it hasn't been all the contestants but just the ones who got to know the Bachelor better by staying longer and those from the first group who were memorable for one reason or another. They usually get bitchy with the other women and take votes on which of the F2 is going to end up with the Bachelor.

Tonight (if they show it after the presidential news conference) should be hometown dates. Next week should be "Fantasy Dates". The week after should be "Women Tell All" and then the final episode on March 2nd.

From RealitySteve's site:

In case you haven’t heard the latest, ABC has decided to air the “Bachelor” finale in its regular spot on Monday, March 2nd from 8-10pm, followed by the standard “After the Final Rose” show from 10-11pm. But now, they are going to do an “After the Final Rose: Part 2″ to air Tuesday night the 3rd. Here’s the link to the press release:

Those ratings will probably prompt the producers into more dramatic stunts next season.

Will the people who buy into the "romance" of this formerly-gentle, kind of silly reality show watch though? Will the loss of those offended be offset by the influx of people who like trainwrecks?

It's anyone's guess. I watch for the stupid, so I don't think it will change my sporadic viewing one way or another. Except I think Jillian is boring as hell, so it will really depend on what else is on TV.

I'm not sure there will be a lot of stunts, mainly because the Bachelorette seasons have always been more sensible. The Bachelorettes generally have been more self aware and less ego-driven than the Bachelors. The producers have relied on drunken frat boy antics for the drama. (I am of course excluding the horror show that was the Deanna season, where she talked more about Brad than anything else and where the out-house was the dumbest stunt ever).

Jillian seems like a Meredith type - smart, multi dimensional, adventurous. I think she will be more enjoyable for those who thought she was boring when she's not being pigeonholed into a hot-dog oriented role in her 5 minutes of screen time. Despite this season's horrible ending, I will tune in with glee to find Jillian do her thing.

Doh! Sorry Barnes... I'll add: Those are some amazing ratings. I'm worried that Jillian won't be able to bring in similar numbers, because I think the Bachelorettes generally have a harder time. I hope they get some great eyecandy to help draw in the viewers so her season doesnt have to be stunt-y.
