I thought there were some great songs in the pilot episode, so I knew we'd be needing a thread. Needless to say, I'm going to assume that any song titles or information would probably need to be spoiler tagged if they're posted here before the actual Monday premiere. Hopefully we have some people that are great at 'Name that Song' because there's at least two from the pilot that I definitely wanted to know!

I know at least one of the songs... would the one you're looking for be:

The one that kicks up when Ninja!Sarah starts deflecting the various household items Morgan throws at her? 'Cause that one's Cobrastyle by Teddybears STHLM ft Mad Cobra :-)

Guinny: Yes, that's definitely one of them I wanted to know! Thanks! Hee. Hopefully, someone can give a full on run down after the premiere on Monday. I love the opening music as well and I don't think there was a song that felt out of place. Are the rest of the songs on that album just as good? Do you know?

Well, I've heard the entire thing and while it's really not my type of music, I enjoyed some of the songs beside the one I just mentioned... So I guess that's a yes ;-)

I thought the choice of music in the pilot was just ACE. Absolutely.

I loved the music. Loved The Shins and Teddybears. Perfect music choices. This may become my new show to discover good music. Josh really never fails in that department.

Hallelujah - Which scene was The Shins and what song? I think this is going to be my show to find new bands and music I like as well.

I guess I'll be the first to do one of these posts.

Does anyone know what the song playing during the beach scene was? I really liked it.

Found this over at "The Music of 'Chuck'" thread at nbc.com:

- Teddybears Sthlm & Mad Cobra - "Cobra Style" (played multiple times, during the opening credits)

- Jet - "Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is" (Chuck and Sarah getting ready for their date)

- Gomez - "See The World" (dinner scene)

- The Shins - "A Comet Appears" (beach scene)

Cellphone's Dead - Beck (Chuck tells his team about the Demova virus)

Into Your Dream - Foreign Born (a band plays while Sarah & Chuck dance)

Any Way You Want It - Journey (Morgan phones during the defusing)

For A Fistful Of Dollars - Ennio Morricone (Chuck goes to apply for manager)

The Missionary - Brothers Martin (Chuck has a flash of Sarah on a mission)

All this information was received graciously from ocseason4fan and taltos 19 at "The Official Chuck Music Thread".

That makes life so much easier! Thanks!

What about The Shins as an overall band? Is that song similar to a lot of their other songs or just because a lot of us liked that one, it doesn't mean we'll like the rest of their songs?

Don't know if this is a spoiler or not, but I'm going to spoiler-tag just in case.

Did anyone notice that some of the music in the leaked pilot was different from the one broadcast tonight? I guess it shows how big of a Chuck nerd I already am, but I've watched the pilot so many times I practically had the music memorized, and it was...different watching it tonight. Not anything major, but subtle enough for me to notice it.

I love the music of Chuck! My iPod will be well-stock with Chuck's Greatest Hits by the time the season is over, I'm sure.

I have all three CDs and each one is unique in it's own way. It's really weird, because you can hear the progression, but they seem like three different bands. At least for one. I love the first CD, the second one was okay and hated the third CD, but now even that's growing on me. At least, I really liked "A Comet Appears" when they played it.

Hmmm. So basically you're saying I should check the albums out individually rather than just mass downloading them from iTunes, because I could hate the rest of the their work? :) I guess I can listen to some of their song previews. What would you say are their best ones?

While I love and adore this song because hello? It's gorgeous--but it's not the best example of Shins music. If you're going to try listening to The Shins, first (and this is important) listen to their debut album Oh, Inverted World. It's a great album, and it's also got most of the songs and type of music that The Shins are known for ("Caring is Creepy," "Know Your Onion," and "New Slang"). They're all moderately up-tempo songs, but they're also really quirky (in a not disgustingly annoying way).

True story: the bar band in the pilot ep is a real band - L.A.'s very own Foreign Born. My brother-in-law Lew is the lead guitarist. They have a great sound, a bit of Echo and the Bunnymen with a dash of very early U2.

Thanks for the heads up! Do they have a MySpace or website?

I definitely noticed, too. I was actually really disappointed that they took out "Full Chemical Gear" by Thomas Newman (from the Jarhead soundtrack)... it was that disharmonic electro song in the pre-air that played when Bryce was hacking the computer, when Chuck downloaded the file & during the car chase. They replaced it with some comparatively bland score stuff. They also got rid of Gomez's "See The World" and the 'computer bug' song (I don't know what it was actually called).

Does anyone know what the classical piece was during the faux ballet recital?

I was watching the pilot of Reaper, and they also played Into Your Dream by Foreign Born. A popular song this fall, it seems.

Is it available to download on iTunes? I would really like to add it to my Chuck playlist.

Their new release, "On The Wing Now", is on iTunes. 'Into Your Dream' is on the album. Which, in my completely unbiased opinion, is excellent.

(Really, it is.)

I think its a pretty good example of the music on that particular album, though certainly different from their other music on their other cds. I love me some Shins, but each of their cds seems like its very own type of concept album, like the band got together and decided to make a cd with a particular style/feeling in mind. So, Oh, Inverted World sounds different from Shoots Too Narrow, and those both sound different from Wincing the Night Away. I myself liked Shoots Too Narrow and that eventually became love, took a couple of listenings to get into Oh, Inverted World, and immediately became obsessed with Wincing the Night Away. There's still a core of The Shins present in each one though.

I've already added The TeddyPickers to my IPOD.

I'll definitely have to do that, since I thought that song was really fun.

One of the reasons I loved The OC so much was the brilliant mix of music. I always expected this new Josh Schwartz show to be just as awesome. And it really was: lots of cool songs I never heard before, Jet, Journey, a great, not very well known band, a wonderful emo song … Now I'm waiting for the first Chuck Mix CD. Did anyone notice that both the Teddybears and the Shins songs had the word "chuck" in their lyrics?

Oh, I know! Loved Spoon's Don't Make Me a Target, so fitting, haha, as well as Gone Daddy Gone by Gnarls Barkley. Hope they keep the awesome music up! I think one of the show's advantages over the OC soundtrack is that it doesn't have to take itself quite as seriously as one of the premier sources of great indie music in American pop culture or whatever. Chuck has great music, but it knows how to have fun with it.

Wasn't it the original Violent Femmes version of "Gone Daddy Gone"? I had a very distinct college flashback when it started playing.

I re-listened and it is indeed not the Violent Femmes--I hate when covers are so similar to the original.

Josh turned me onto Spoon way back in season 1 of The OC, so hearing "Don't Make Me A Target" in tonight's episode really put a big nostalgic grin on my face. So far, I'm just loving the music on this show. Which is good, since there's a giant hole in my iPod's heart left by The OC. Maybe Chuck can eventually fill it.
