I thought the choice of music in the pilot was just ACE. Absolutely.

Does anyone know what the song playing during the beach scene was? I really liked it.

- Teddybears Sthlm & Mad Cobra - "Cobra Style" (played multiple times, during the opening credits)
- Jet - "Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is" (Chuck and Sarah getting ready for their date)
- Gomez - "See The World" (dinner scene)
- The Shins - "A Comet Appears" (beach scene)
Cellphone's Dead - Beck (Chuck tells his team about the Demova virus)
Into Your Dream - Foreign Born (a band plays while Sarah & Chuck dance)
Any Way You Want It - Journey (Morgan phones during the defusing)
For A Fistful Of Dollars - Ennio Morricone (Chuck goes to apply for manager)
The Missionary - Brothers Martin (Chuck has a flash of Sarah on a mission)
All this information was received graciously from ocseason4fan and taltos 19 at "The Official Chuck Music Thread".

What about The Shins as an overall band? Is that song similar to a lot of their other songs or just because a lot of us liked that one, it doesn't mean we'll like the rest of their songs?

Did anyone notice that some of the music in the leaked pilot was different from the one broadcast tonight? I guess it shows how big of a Chuck nerd I already am, but I've watched the pilot so many times I practically had the music memorized, and it was...different watching it tonight. Not anything major, but subtle enough for me to notice it.
I love the music of Chuck! My iPod will be well-stock with Chuck's Greatest Hits by the time the season is over, I'm sure.

I have all three CDs and each one is unique in it's own way. It's really weird, because you can hear the progression, but they seem like three different bands. At least for one. I love the first CD, the second one was okay and hated the third CD, but now even that's growing on me. At least, I really liked "A Comet Appears" when they played it.What about The Shins as an overall band? Hmmm. So basically you're saying I should check the albums out individually rather than just mass downloading them from iTunes, because I could hate the rest of the their work? :) I guess I can listen to some of their song previews. What would you say are their best ones?

While I love and adore this song because hello? It's gorgeous--but it's not the best example of Shins music. If you're going to try listening to The Shins, first (and this is important) listen to their debut album Oh, Inverted World. It's a great album, and it's also got most of the songs and type of music that The Shins are known for ("Caring is Creepy," "Know Your Onion," and "New Slang"). They're all moderately up-tempo songs, but they're also really quirky (in a not disgustingly annoying way).

True story: the bar band in the pilot ep is a real band - L.A.'s very own Foreign Born. My brother-in-law Lew is the lead guitarist. They have a great sound, a bit of Echo and the Bunnymen with a dash of very early U2.
Thanks for the heads up! Do they have a MySpace or website?

I definitely noticed, too. I was actually really disappointed that they took out "Full Chemical Gear" by Thomas Newman (from the Jarhead soundtrack)... it was that disharmonic electro song in the pre-air that played when Bryce was hacking the computer, when Chuck downloaded the file & during the car chase. They replaced it with some comparatively bland score stuff. They also got rid of Gomez's "See The World" and the 'computer bug' song (I don't know what it was actually called).
Does anyone know what the classical piece was during the faux ballet recital?

Is it available to download on iTunes? I would really like to add it to my Chuck playlist.

Their new release, "On The Wing Now", is on iTunes. 'Into Your Dream' is on the album. Which, in my completely unbiased opinion, is excellent.I was watching the pilot of Reaper, and they also played Into Your Dream by Foreign Born. A popular song this fall, it seems.

(Really, it is.)

I think its a pretty good example of the music on that particular album, though certainly different from their other music on their other cds. I love me some Shins, but each of their cds seems like its very own type of concept album, like the band got together and decided to make a cd with a particular style/feeling in mind. So, Oh, Inverted World sounds different from Shoots Too Narrow, and those both sound different from Wincing the Night Away. I myself liked Shoots Too Narrow and that eventually became love, took a couple of listenings to get into Oh, Inverted World, and immediately became obsessed with Wincing the Night Away. There's still a core of The Shins present in each one though. While I love and adore this song because hello? It's gorgeous--but it's not the best example of Shins music.
I'll definitely have to do that, since I thought that song was really fun.I've already added The TeddyPickers to my IPOD.

I re-listened and it is indeed not the Violent Femmes--I hate when covers are so similar to the original.

I love Spoon, too. And the Shins. They're my two favorite bands.
