I've enjoyed playing this on other boards, so I thought I would give it a shot here. :-)

This is a simple, yet surprisingly fun, and addictive game: Someone makes a wish such as, "I wish Ted had never dated Robin." And the next person corrupts this wish....for example, "Granted! Instead, Ted hooks up with Lily while she and Marshall are broken up and Marshall never speaks to them again."

Then the person who "granted" the above wish makes one of their own, and so on.

I'll start us off with....

I wish Lily and Marshall had gotten married in Atlantic City

Granted! But then Robin and Ted would've been so wrapped up in the moment on the boat, that they would've gotten married too. This would've ended in a bitter divorce only a couple of months later, leading to Robin leaving the group, Ted becoming bitter and losing his faith in love, thus not being able to commit to the future mother of his children, therefore he wouldn't have those children and wouldn't be telling them about how he met their mother and we'd have no show.

I wish Robin had been a star outside Canada as well, leading to random people recognizing her on the streets of New York and routinely asking her whether she'd like to go to the mall.Today.

Granted! But then Marshall and Barney would have found out about her fame before making the slap bet. And we wouldn't have the slap bet. Which would be terrible.

I wish Robin and Barney had slept together in "Zip, Zip, Zip."

Granted, but then after a pregnancy scare both Barney and Robin leave the group because Ted, like the woman he is, can't stand that they both betrayed him with one another and no one ever suits up again.

I wish Ted had met the woman who was supposed to be his perfect match instead of ditching her for Robin and her tiger striped hair.

Granted! They meet and fall madly in love. But it turns out that the woman and Lily don't get along that well, and after a big fight between the two in which Marshall takes Lily's side, Ted moves out and the group drifts apart.

I wish Trudy from 'The Pineapple Incident' hadn't climbed out the window and then Ted dates her instead of Victoria.

Granted. She turns out to be the mother, the show ends after the first season, and we never get to see Slap Bet.

I wish that Marshall and Lily had never broken up.

Granted! They remain together to do a "long distance thing" but, the very first time "the gang" hops a plane to visit her, it crashes on some weird island so we spend the duration of the show watching Barney try to use his powers of Awesome to defeat the mysterious island natives, know to us as "The Others".

I wish that Robin HAD done porn....in addition to being a teenage pop star.

Granted! Then Robin is too famous for local news and we never have Sandy Rivers and Lily Aldrin meet face-to-face.

I wish that Lily was taller than Marshall.

I wish Ted never told Robin he was in love with her.

Granted! But then Ted and Robin would have dated and broken up as everyone knew they would and Robin would be just another on a long list of Ted's girlfriends and would never have become such an intigral part of the group.

I wish Ted had met the Slutty Pumpkin

BTW, I'd totally watch that

Done!

However, the Slutty Pumpkin turns out to be played by Maggie Wheeler (Janice from Friends) and the character is actually voiced in the same manner and she appears on every episode for the next season... laughing.

I wish Buffy Summers had never come to Sunnydale -- no wait, wrong show ;>

I wish Sandy Rivers would come back on the show.

Granted! He gets fired from CNN and comes back to work at News One. But he's still mad at Robin for blowing him off for Ted at the end of the first season, and uses his pull at the station to get her transferred to a sister news station in Alaska. Robin leaves the show.

I wish Barney would fall in love.

Granted! He falls head over heels and becomes putty in the hands of a lovely woman...and suddenly reverts to the granola, hippy Barney of his past. Which was hilarious for one episode, but in the long run? I heard he's not awesome anymore.

I wish that Penelope (of rain dance fame) would make another appearance.

Done!

Penelope comes back but she's over Barney and has realized she is bisexual.

She shows up and spends all her time hitting on Robin and the show loses it's unique voice and falls back on demeaning lesbian jokes rather than being innovative and original because that becomes the new focus of the show -- will Robin experiment or won't she.

I wish that Barney's mother comes to town for an episode.

Granted! But she comes to town for Barney's funeral! With Barney dead, the show quickly follows and we never get another season of HIMYM.

I wish something HAD happened between Lily and Barney, the night they fell asleep together.

Done!

But both characters try to pretend it never happened until the show gets a new writer (fired from Days of Our Lives) and the rest of the season is about Lily being pregnant and the never-ending question "Who's the father?"

I wish that Joss Whedon would appear as a guest-star in a new episode.

Granted! But he's playing a hack TV writer who gets inspired by Ted's propensity for telling stories and he pitches a series about a guy who's in love with being in love - but the network execs think that guy is kind of a sap and give him notes that the show needs to be about that guy's friend who, they hear, is awesome, but in the end it just turns out he needs a sooooooooooooooul. Ted being Ted with a tendency to Ted out takes this rejection personally, changes his ways, and ditches romance just seconds before he would have bumped into a lovely young lady carrying a yellow umbrella.

I wish the Fiero had made it to 200,000 miles.

Granted!

On mile 200,001 Ted and Marshall are hit by a Mack Truck and the only way to save them is to put Ted's brain into Marshall's body. The resulting Tershall beast can never find happiness and murders the gang and himself in a terrible Law and Order Crossover Event.

I wish Barney's brother James would come back.

Granted! But having him around makes Barney re-think his ways, and so he decides to find his soulmate a la Ted, forcing Ted to obsess once more over his soulmate search, and they become incredibly annoying, and not as much fun...

I wish Ted and the coat check girl would run into each other, and start dating.

Your wish is my command!

Coat check girl turns out to be an axe murderer and tries to kill Barney. Barney escapes just in the nick of time, but converted to Born Again Christianity by his near death experience and spends the rest of his days preaching to the gang and disapproving of their sinning lifestyles.

I wish that Barney and Robin would get together and have a tiny Robinacle.

Granted. But the racist ghost is racist against white people and haunts the whole gang. There's a spin-off horror movie made and it flops in the box office. Also, the floor is normal, but now no one can play apartment-luge anymore. :(

I wish Ted had gotten together with the dermatologist he found while snooping in the matchmaker's office.

Done!

However, Ted overloves her and she leaves. In an ironic dermatological twist of fate, Ted then comes down with a horribly rare and disfiguring skin condition that the dermatologist refuses to treat and blacklists him against all other dermatologists in New York, knowing Ted's refusal to leave New York and go to such places as New Jersey. Ted becomes ugly permanently because he can't be treated and in an anti-Beauty-and-the-Beast-like twist, when he and the Mother meet, she can't stand to look at him and refuses to be with him. Ted actually ends up alone and the kids he is telling this incredibly long story to are actually figments of his imagination.

But it turns out to be octuplets and HIMYM becomes Jon & Kate Plus Eight, and Lily and Marshall can't handle it, get divorced and take 4 kids a piece (a la 'Parent Trap') vowing never to see each other again.

Granted!

However, Ted is so jealous over the fact that Barney & Robin, of all people, get married before he does that he stops talking to them. Marshall & Lily have more history with Ted, so they stick with him. Barney & Robin feel awful about losing Marshall & Lily & Ted (plus, the Portugese government is looking for Barney and he needs to get out of town), so they move to Vermont and open an inn. (Marshall & Lily want to go up and visit, but going to a B&B means getting up early; they'd just rather stay at home.) The Vermont inn is great for awhile, and there are all kinds of kooky characters, with a dim handyman, a spoiled-rich-girl-turned-maid, and 2 brothers named Darryl. Eventually, though, Barney wakes up next to Suzanne Pleshette and the whole thing was a dream.

I wish Lily would allow Marshall to get his motorcycle.
