Hi, everyone. I'll be moderating your forum. I just wanted to introduce myself and give you all a place to ask questions.

There's quite a bit of creative formatting and punctuation in this forum. I've been editing posts in the episode thread, but there's enough of it that I decided an announcement was probably a more efficient way to handle the situation. Here are a few notes from the FAQ:

Q: I love typing in all lowercase or all uppercase, ignoring proper grammar and punctuation, and writing my messages like I'm text-messaging on a cell phone with an eight-year-old. That's cool, right? I mean, who cares? This is the internet!

A: Well, we care...but the sad truth is that other posters might skip over your posts if they're too hard to read. Things like proper spacing, capitalization, and punctuation make your posts much easier on the eye, and they make you look like quite the Captain Smartypants, too.

Look, we're not grading you. You won't get banned for misspelling "definitely" or anything. Just try your best to write neat, coherent posts. Don't type "2" for "to," or "U" for "you," or "l8r" or "LOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!" or any of that nonsense. Throw in a carriage return now and then to break up the text, and please use proper capitalization. Your computer comes with two shift keys. Use 'em.

I know this is the Bachelor forum/section in TWoP, so I was wondering what this meant for the new Bachelorette season starting in a week and a half. Will it be weecapped? Will we be able to discuss it in this forum, make threads for episodes, etc.., or will we need to create a thread in the Competitive Reality forum?

I just got an answer on this. The Bachelorette discussion is going to happen here and it's going to be recapped. I'll see if I can get them to link the title in the drop-down to this forum.

Please tell me how to get to the Media Page. Matt Grant and Shayne will be on the ELLEN show today and one of the posters mentioned that discussion of the show will be on the Media Page. Thanks

GENERALIZATIONS:

Generalizations about one sex or the other have the potential to stir up problems in a forum such as this, because they can put people on the defensive. Please refrain from making them when possible. I know it's difficult to avoid them completely when discusing a dating show, so I'll only issue notes or warnings when I feel a post crosses a line. Discussing the specific people on the show, rather than 'men' and 'women', is probably the best way to avoid leaning on stereotypes.

While I'm on this topic, a couple of episodes ago, an awful lot of Greek/Greek-American stereotypes were being bandied about, while speculatating about Deanna's family. They seemed to me (and I'm not Greek) more mean-spirited than the male/female generalizations I've been picking up this week. Ethnic stereotyping is out of bounds here. Again, discussing the specific people on the show, and the directly observable data we have about them, is probably the best way to avoid leaning on stereotypes.

Need clarification on the spoiler tag issue. In one of the threads (the media one, I think) a poster was asked by another poster to spoiler tag their comment on a video clip from the finale that was access on the GMA website. Are videos on an ABC site "first party promos" that aren't spoilers, or should they be tagged?

I addressed that in thread, but I'll do it here, too. First party promotional materials (and clips fall under this) are not spoilers. Also, information broken in the mainstream media (that segment aired on GMA today, and GMA is pretty mainstream) aren't spoilers, so not, it wasn't a spoiler.

NOTES

Announcement thread/Mod thread combo: As you may have noticed, I've just combined the announcement thread and the Ask the Mod thread into this one thread. I figured it would be easier for everyone to follow. This is the place where you can ask questions about the boards, and it's also where I'll make announcements. Please keep up with it.

Wecaps: The weecap of The Bachelor episode 14-1 has been delayed and will be up by Monday. Subsequent weecaps will be up Tuesday mornings as usual. We apologize for the delay.

New Sub-forums: I just put in a request to expand this forum so that we can have a section for whimsy and a section for past season discussion. I'll let you know the decision as soon as I hear.

In the meantime, I took a couple of posts from the episode 14-1 thread and started a drinking game thread here in General Gabbery, because I can't believe we didn't have one already.

New Sub-forums

We've added a new sub-forum for past seasons, called, Past Seasons: Fractured Fairy Tales. All the old episode threads have been moved there, as has the "Past Seasons: Am I Still On TV?" thread. Sometime over the weekend, I'm going to move all the old contestant threads down there, too (well except for Jason, because he's back, and DeAnna, who just won't go away).

We've also added a new sub-forum for games and other whimsy, called The Ring. Right now, there are only two game threads down there -- for Survival and the Drinking Game. Go thou -- be whimsical and multiply.

If you want to make threads for this seasons girls, you can do so in the Contestants sub-forum. Please don't make threads for those who have already been eliminated, because they just didn't get enough screen-time to merit on-topic conversation. Instead, I'll make a thread for the first 10 eliminated.

NOTE: I have an ongoing problem with TWoP's cookies, and a couple of times a week I have to mark the whole site as read (marking an individual sub-forum as read doesn't do the trick for me, for some reason). What I do is go through all my forums (I'm modding 8) and then mark the site as read. I make a note of the time I did it, so that I can go back to that time, the next time I'm reading my boards, but sometimes I miss stuff.

So, if you ever post here and I don't respond in a timely fashion please feel free to give me a nudge in PM. I'll see it before I see a post or my email. And if you're going to ask about something that needs a quick response, PM is better.

wordperson, I'm pretty sure no one ever created any. Most of the contestant discussion fits within an episode, so it's usually there. However, I'm sure you can start one if there's a bachelor in particular you'd like to talk about.

Maybe we should start a thread for all of them? Something like "Jillian's Bachelorette 5 contestants: The Best Group Ever + Wes & Dave"

That's the contestant subforum, domino351. My understanding is that the OP was looking for specific thread (like the one for Jason, Jillian, and DeAnna). There just wasn't enough interest from anyone to make one, apparently.

Oh, great and powerful board moderators, your consideration of opening the spoiler thread again would be most appreciated. For this long time lurker, that thread was the best part of the the board. Without it, I am not nearly as inclined to log on multiple times a day to check for the latest.

I try to start them ahead of time, but if the East Coast USA broadcast has ended and there's no show thread, it's fine to start one. Sometimes, I'm out. Of course last night, I wasn't out at all. I just COMPLETELY forgot the show was on. I have to have a talk with my brain about killing me with kindness. Sorry for the lapse, everyone.

I created a single thread for all of Jillian's contestants in the Contestants subforum. I think that might alleviate the problems of going off topic in the episode and spoiler threads.
