Hello, Dexter forum! I'm TWoP Dietrich, and I'll be your mod.

...okay, that about covers it for now.

This year TWoP is full of great surprises - Weeds and Dexter are picked up, YAY!

Dietrich, can we start discussing the episodes that were not aired yet? Many people have watched 2x01 "It's Alive" and 2x02 "Waiting to Exhale" already and waiting till the end of September seems a little too long.

Until they air, those episodes are spoilers and should be discussed in the Spoiler Discussion thread. I realize it's a long time until the season actually starts, but I blame Showtime for that.

What are the rules on book spoilers, both inside and outside of the "Books vs. Show" thread?

A little clarification would be helpful. I can understand not discussing anything that occurs in season 2 whether in the books or on the show in the spoiler thread, but this is asking us to spoiler items that happened in the book that didn't happen in season 1 in a thread set up to compare the book vs the show. Wouldn't that be considered main stream media since the books have been out in print for several years now?

And wouldn't this be speculation based on the book? Again the book has been out for a while, so does that count as mainstream?

And is there any distinctions between which books have been covered by the show. For example the first season covers the events of the first book, while the events of the second book haven't been covered by the show, does that make a difference?

I'm going to be stealing liberally from the Ugly Betty spoiler policy, because it faces similar challenges.

What are the rules on book spoilers, both inside and outside of the "Books vs. Show" thread?

In Series vs. Books: Things that happened in the books are not spoilers. It is assumed that people reading that thread have either read the books already or don't care.

In other threads: Plot elements from the books that look like they're going to happen on the show are spoilers. Don't go around posting "Obviously, Character X [did/did not] commit this murder" because that's what happened in the book. Once the plot point has happened on the air, the events of the book are no longer spoilers.

In spoiler threads: Don't use spoiler bars.

The overriding principle is that we're not worried about spoiling the books; we're worried about spoiling the show. People who have read the books and want to go into detail have a thread to do it in.

(Obvious exception: If someone finds out what happens in Dexter in the Dark or any future books before they come out, that would be a spoiler in any thread.)

It means that events of the first book are most likely not going to be things "that look like they're going to happen on the show", so they're probably okay to talk about anywhere. For events of the second book, we'll have to see.

I am not able to read the synopsis for season 1 episode 3, on the home page it shows Dexter and the Maiden but what happened to the recap?

There isn't a recap for episode 3 yet; "Dex and the Maiden" should link to episode 2 ("Crocodile"), and "Dex be not proud" should link to episode 1 ("Dexter").

If you're having trouble getting the recap for episode 2 to load, I don't know what could be causing that other than "technical troubles". The "Recap, Ad, and Other Non-Forum Technical Issues" thread in the Bugs and Feedback forum is the place to go for help with reading the recaps themselves.

Sorry, I am able to access the second recap, but on the home page it gives this synopsis for the recap of Dex and the Maiden and the link, but when I click on it I get to Crocodile.

That is the correct recap; "Dex and the Maiden" is the whimsical title we have given to "Crocodile", just like "Dex be not proud" is the front-page title for the episode actually called "Dexter".

The actual title for the third episode is "Popping Cherry", which does not yet have a recap. When it does, the title on the front page will again be different.

This is not a big thing, but its a pet peeve of mine. I've noticed that some of the threads have titles like "Sergeant Doakes: The Only One Admittedly Creeped Out" while others have titles like "Lines that will never be said on Dexter". Because I am totally anal, this annoys the hell out of me. Is it possible that all threads titles can be uniformly capitalized or lowercase?

That's going to happen, but not right away. At some point in the future, we'll have subforums, and when I move threads into their new homes, I'll go through and unify things. For example, either all the actor/character threads will start with "ACTOR:" (or "CHARACTER:") or none of them will.

TWoP Dietrich,

When you say you'd like to implement something in this matter: ("CHARACTER:"), will the clever titles that follow still be included?

In my opinion, I think the "subtitle" that follows a character's name really spices up the forum and makes it feel less uniform than when you just have the word character and then the person's name. I hope you stick with what you have now since it seems to be working well on every other forum.

Yes, it will be either something like "ACTOR: Michael C. Hall, who was very good in Cabaret" and "CHARACTER: Dexter, also sinister" or the same thing without the "ACTOR:" and "CHARACTER:" tags.

(Those are only examples; the actual descriptive text will hopefully be more interesting)

Okay, there are now subforums. How exciting! The Actor/Character threads are all over in their own area. Most of them don't have wacky subtitles yet, but you can go ahead and suggest some. I don't want that to take over the threads, though, so I'll probably just use the first one I see that I like.

Hi, TWoP Dietrich. Just wondering, is there a reason there's no thread for Episode 6, or is it just that nobody has started one? It seems like it's the only episode without its own thread.

No one's started one. Since the first season wasn't recapped, the episode threads have just been started on an as-needed basis. If you've got something to say about it, go for it (following the episode-thread title format, that is).

Would it be a good idea to just make a thread for thread title suggestions and sticky it? Other boards do that.

Maybe we should create an "Awards And Nominations" thread. Dexter won best credit sequence in the Tubey's and who knows maybe The Emmy's will give MCH the credit (which he highly deserves) this year.

The third book (Dexter in the Dark) is scheduled to come out on Tuesday, September 18. Let's keep any details of its plot as spoilers for two weeks, so if you want to talk about it, use spoiler bars until October 2. After that, it's in the same category as the second book: not a spoiler unless it's something that might happen on the show.

Good question. What with all the other stuff happening on the site, I suspect that FAQs for new shows are going to be awhile. I'll try to get a more useful answer, though.

Note that while promos for the next episode are not spoilers, they're also not really on topic for the current episode thread. Discussion of them ought to go in the Speculation Thread (non-spoiler version).
