Famed novelist & NYC transplant Hank relocates to LA after his acclaimed book is optioned, but it later becomes a crappy romantic comedy, which sparks a horrible case of writer's block. He's struggling to get his career back on track with the help of his agent/best friend, raise his pre-teen daughter, all while pining for his ex-girlfriend, who is now engaged to another man. It may sound desperate, but he enjoys life and owns all his various vices - drink, drugs and women - with a refreshing sense of honesty and unapologetic candor. He's holding it together while falling apart, and he doesn't mind it one bit.

Duchovny is Dry, cerebral and, at times, truly serious,

I'm loving Duchovny here. This character seems like a great fit for him and he has surprisingly good chemistry with Natascha McElhone. I think this show gots potential.

I just watched the pilot via Netflix and I was pleasantly surprised withe the poignancy of the Hank Moody character. I liked the chemistry that he had with all of the characters in his life.

I'm fine with the fact he has to relieve some of the tension by dating and then shagging multiple partners, but there are other ways to deal especially now that he's done a 16 year old who will be tied to his ex-wife in a few months. I'm excited where the writers and Duchovny will take us because I think the shows off to a good start. I think they just need to develop his character a little more. I hope they don't turn him into Christian Troy or the male counterpart of Samantha Jones.

DD is so goofy. And it's sweet how much he loves that dog.

Which woman did he insult that then had sex with him?
The one in episode two. He didn't insult her personally, but made the crack about scientology before he knew she was a scientologist. I thought she might have been lying, but she never corrected it.

Actually he kept on making scientology cracks while they were having sex. Not that I didn't I enjoyed all of them.

It's totally self serving on his part but for me makes an intriguing part of the character.

If that's not aging well, what the hell is?
I second that. I could show you pictures of Holtz from the latter half of ANGEL, season three, to show what not aging well is...

And then, of course, there's Vincent Phillip D'Onofrio, born May...19th? I think? 1959. Gorgeous.
