It's late, so the only guy I remember is the big black dude with the bullet head. He's funny, but I think he'd be better off going to the Rob & Big house. They have two 300-pound dudes in Big and Bam Bam...what's one more?
Right now, I don't have any major reservations with the semifinalists. Maybe they'll be a repeat of the LCS2 fiasco, but it's calm so far.

I feel like I'm missing something with this Lavell guy - I don't think he's funny. AT ALL. Yet the judges and audiences seem to go apeshit for him. Huh? I don't get it.the only guy I remember is the big black dude with the bullet head. He's funny, but I think he'd be better off going to the Rob & Big house.
Obviously I was a little disappointed that he made the semi-finals over much funnier comics, but I loved the other Tempe folks that made it to the next round. Especially that Chuck Roy guy; his joke about going to the hairdresser and asking to look like a member of Alabama going to the grammies, killed me. So funny.
Tempe? Who knew it could be such a hotbed of talent.

That is the very reason I came to the board, to find out who this guy was! Didn't he also do the "Why the hell do you have a big dog, it's not like you have a sled!" thing? Hi is, without a doubt, my absolute favorite.

Chuck Roy and that other experienced comic that looked like he was wearing eyeliner? How the **** did they get through? There were 10 amateur area comics from Tempe that were much funnier. I'm tired of this "good ole boy network" crap with these comics. I was hoping that 'friends of the producers' would be pretty obvious after 4 seasons and that they would, you know, promote ACTUALLY FUNNY PEOPLE, rather than the guy who picks up dry cleaning for the executive producer.
Did you know that Lavell was fat? Stay tuned, I'm sure he's going to make a public statement about it soon. I'm sorry, the whole "Look at me! I'm funny looking/fat/short/tall/thin/whatever" routine just grates. It's okay for a quick 15 second introduction to get the laughs started, but then bring something of substance. At least Jerry Seinfraud had other material. But Lavell was fat, Tomgirl was homely, and Chuck Roy has a beard; whoo-hooo! That's pushing the edge.

And who knew that Tempe was such a hotbed for comics, it's almost like they realized that they weren't going to have enough finalists and stacked the deck to fill out the roster. How many passes did they give out in Tempe? 5, 6? So there's twice as many funny people in Tempe, Arizona than there is in either England or Austrailia. Right, got it.
How dumb was it to make it seem like Jerry/Elaine's kid wasn't going to make the cut. They've been using that guy's damn joke to promote LCS for MONTHS now, but yeah, we're going to leave him behind in Tempe. Okay.
I still think it's funny that the roster for the semifinals goes something like this: Nobody you know, Nobody you know, Doug Benson (who's been on every VH1 special for the last 3 years) Nobody you know, Nobody you know. Heh.
You'd think that in one of these audtions at least one comic would have been passed through by the judges only to completely bomb on stage in front of an audience. That would have made for some great TV, but makes the judges look bad for putting them there in the first place, so I guess that's why almost every comic that went before an audience seemed to kill out there.
Of course Tom Arnold is going to be a guest judge next week, because if you're going to have somebody as arbitrary and unfunny as Ant judging, you might as well let Tom have a crack at it too.
Now the real show begins, as the preliminary audition rounds are always so, so boring. It's also boring and un-fun on AI, and draws less viewers. You'd think somebody would figure this out by now, but we are talking about people in TV, so we have to grade on a curve.

Just a little beef - do they send more than one black person per show on to the next round? Have they ever done that? I really really hope there are more than a few women and at least 3-4 black people. It annoys me when there are "tokens".

I did NOT think that Nick no Neck guy was at all funny whatsoever.
Me neither. There's nothing lamer than, "Here's an impression of my 'friend'--who you don't know" routines, IMO. And he kept going. I found it all pretty painful.
OTOH I thought "I've got more channels than you" guy was hilarious.
ITA. He's the only comic that actually made me laugh outloud.
I am by no means a comedienne, but this was the first time I ever watched LCS since the first season and was rather surprised at how unfunny it still is.

I thought Chuck Roy was the funniest. His New Hampshire joke was pretty funny too. I actually liked most of the comics.....except for the big, overweight African American guy. Not sure how he made it.
My favorite joke, though, was the last one before the announcement of the winners. The bit about being able to hit pedestrians and how you should be able to hit the guy that holds his hand out to have you stop to prove he IS NOT A JEDI. That was great. I don't think he made it to the semi's though.

But the pacing of the episode was a bit weird, and I fell asleep smack dab in the middle! (to be fair to LCS, I am pregnant and randomly fall asleep all of the time, so it could be that)
I don't think I would go to a club for Lavell, but I have to admit I was chuckling at his angel wings bit. I was also glad to see that "Jerry & Elaine's Son" had a bit more than that.

I know this is no new insight (in fact so not new it's almost a stereotype), but I sure think that comedians are miserable people. They just always look so sad when they don't know the camera's on them (and even when they do sometimes).

ITA. How many times have you heard a comedian talk about, either in a routine or an interview, going back and "showing them" (bullies, old G/F or B/F, teacher, parent)? Seems to be a lot of emotional baggage in this profession.

I could go either way on Jerry/Elaine guy and on Greg Warren (eyeliner guy) -- I'll have to see more. I feel like we're only seeing a brief clip of their actual sets, so we don't get the whole picture.
Yeah, I'm hoping there're more to them. 'Cause if I have to look at those teeth and madeup eyes without them being funny, I'll try out myself. I can't do any worse than those two. (I don't like Jerry Seinfeld-like humor anyway) And that stupid "Nick-No-Neck" was racist IMO.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Lavelle. His heavenly wing bit was frickin' hilarious. I liked Kivi over Ryan and the Warren guy.
Now I have too many to root for.

I was pleasantly surprised that they didn't let any of the women through, as they were less funny than the men and it would have been painfully obvious that they were trying to be politically correct.

That's why I like Mordal and Alonzo Bodden, they just have good material. Sometimes the delivery or the antics of some of these comics overshadow what you really need. Maybe its just my taste.

I actually felt this was a pretty good group.
And, much as I sorta want to like John Carparulo, the moment you start making jokes about how "reading is stupid", you lose me. There are certain lines you can't cross in comedy, and they differ for everyone. For some it might be puns. Others dislike ethnic jokes. Impersonations. Prop comedy. For me? Making fun of smart people. I'm sure there are plenty of stupid people who get offended when comedians make fun of them. That's fine. But if all Carparulo is going to do is play up his dumb LA-redneck schtick, he may as well be Dat Pham doing Vietnamese jokes to me.

Heh. Mr. Buginarug has said more than once that if his son turns out ugly, he's gonna teach him to play guitar so the kid will have a shot with the ladies. (It's a joke, people; relax.) Same thing might be at work here... overcompensation, what? Snort!
I wasn't paying close attention at first when Caparulo (more channels/big dog guy) took the stage... but he looks and sounds EXACTLY like an old boyfriend... so much so, that I was riveted to my TV until they showed his name again. Kept thinking, so help me God, if he name-checks our relationship... heh.
Not totally sold on Lavell. "Look how fat I am" is pretty stale IMO.
Chuck Roy's Alabama haircut joke almost made me pee my pants.
Greg Warren who? Meh.

The only way that can really work is if they are creating a character for the purposes of making a quick callback joke later. And having seen him before I kind of think he does, but I can't recall.Me neither. There's nothing lamer than, "Here's an impression of my 'friend'--who you don't know" routines, IMO. Well it's no secret humor comes up as a defense mechanism. I definitely recognize that trait in myself.ITA.
