Hope the thread title is okay...I'm not always the wittiest around these parts!

Anyway, E! Online has reported here
that many poster predictions are true and that odds have shot through the roof for Rock. Bodog.com has closed betting for the show, apparently.

He got a good edit last night, so I wouldn't be surprised. It's fine by me, as I think he's pretty a pretty solid guy thus far.

I was just coming over here to see if that had been posted. It will be interesting to see if it's true. I really don't have a good handle on the contestants yet - but he seemed like one that lots of viewers here and elsewhere favored.

Rock, AKA Rahman Parker, is the executive chef at B. Smith's restaurant at Union Station in DC.

Lemme tell ya...the last time I ate at B. Smith's was the last time I ate at B. Smith's! Granted it was in 2001 probably when Rock was still a sous chef there, but spending good money on seared shoe leather (called "salmon" on the menu) and runny creme brulee was not the high light of the evening--if I wanted that, we could have stayed at home and had Mr. Milz do the cooking. Not to mention the ladies' room was FILTHY----the floor around the toilet was puddled, there was toilet paper everywhere (on the ground, wadded up in the sink, on the draped on the toilet seat, etc.) and wadded paper towels everywhere. Mr. Milz swears the men's room was cleaner, but I have my doubts. After my experience with that ladies room, I've made it my habit to visit the ladies BEFORE ordering anything.

But if he really is the winner, then I hope Julia lasted into the Final Four.

You know, I thought I was the only one who would visit the restroom before eating in a new place. I've always thought that you can fairly adequately judge the cleanliness of a place by how clean their restrooms are. A bit of a mess is understandable but when its as bad as you described? I run out that door and find somewhere else to eat.

Oh yeah.. hi everybody! First post ... usual long time lurker who decided to come out of the shadows a little.

Nobody stood out for me yet, I thought "Rock" had potential and sadly enough its because I liked his smile! *shallow much? me? Nawwww!*

An article I read said that bodog.com had closed the bets because his odds shot thru the roof on the first show night and when they investigated they discovered that the bets had all come from within the studios. Now the site reporting this linked to bodog.com so others could check it out, but I must say that I could not find the so-called evidence so who knows, might just be a bogus leak. Guess time will tell. I'm not exactly buying it.

I am also pulling for Julia just because of the snobbery she had to deal with, whats wrong with working at Waffle House anyways? At least she could cook something as elementary as an egg!

Side note: The site reporting it is part of Bodog.com (I think) but maybe somebody more expert at sleuthing and stuff can find the "evidence" but I couldn't.

The menu at B Smith's calls Rahman the chef "Rock" so I guess it really is the same guy! It would be cool to have a winner from DC, even if he is at B Smiths, which is meh compared to some of the good restaurants around here.

Edited to move non-spoiler stuff to Rock's thread.

It says his signature Swamp Thang dish has been a "DC favorite for 10 years" but also says he is 25 so how can that be? Also he has been working there since 1999, so he started cooking there as a kid? I guess people either go to cooking school or start cooking in restaurants very young (or both). Or his listed age is wrong.

I was confused by that, too, at first. However, I think I saw on the site that it was last updated in 2002 or so. On HK's website, in the bios section, it says Rock is 30. So, his age was right when they wrote that section, they just haven't updated it in years. Kinda like my own website, heh.

From the TV Guide episode description for the 7/9/07 episode (306):

In an effort to foster gender equality, Melissa joins the men's team as it vies with the women to see which team can prepare better lobster dishes. But first they must kill the lobsters. At that evening's dinner service, one team has its worst night yet.

Unfortunately, Melissa is still around (ugh!) and it appears that the bootee on this Monday's show will again be one of the guys.

Here's FOX's official release regarding the 7/9/07 (306) episode:

WITH LOBSTER ON THE MENU, THE CONTESTANTS’ CLAWS COME OUT ON AN ALL-NEW “HELL’S KITCHEN” MONDAY, JULY 9, ON FOX

Winner to Become Head Chef at Fine-Dining Restaurant at Green Valley Ranch Resort, Spa and Casino in Las Vegas

After barely surviving dinner service the previous night, the remaining seven contestants are faced with their next challenge: lobster. Chef Ramsay has given Melissa a new lease on life as a member of the blue team, but the boys may not consider her a welcome addition. Chef Ramsay challenges each team to prepare three appetizing and creative lobster dishes in one hour, noting that they will have to do the dirty work of picking the lobsters from their tanks and killing them. While some contestants jump at the chance, others are wary of killing their crustacean friends. In a very close decision, Chef Ramsay chooses the winning team to accompany him on a glamorous reward, while the losing team is stuck back at HELL’S KITCHEN with a decidedly less-than-glamorous task. That night at dinner service, the teams go head-to-head to prepare the winning lobster recipes for the customers. When one team has its worst dinner service of the competition thus far, an exasperated Chef Ramsay forces them to decide as a team who will go to the chopping block as “7 Chefs Compete (Again)” on HELL’S KITCHEN

Since 7 cheftestants will still be competing next week, it sounds like this Monday's episode is going to be an elimination-free episode.

I think this has to be the Red Team/women (-Melissa). Jen and Bonnie will be running the show for them and we know how much GR loves the two of them.

If I had to kill and serve lobster myself? I'd just toss them in a pot of boiling water, then put them on a plate with a side of butter and tell my guests to have at it. Done :)

I looked at the TV guide listing for 7/16 and it mentions 6 remaining contentants. So either tonight or next week, no one is eliminated.

Maybe Rock will get his wish and Josh will go tonight.

Has anyone else checked out MySpace? Someone on the episode recap thread mentioned MElissa had a site on MySpace and I checked it out. Among her friends that she continues to chat with were Rock, Brad, and Bonnie (no Jen, Josh, or Julia). Didn't sound like Rock, Melissa, or Bonnie had won but a friend of Brad's told him to come visit him in Vegas since Brad was moving there soon anyway. Is it possible Brad is the one?

Here is the FOX press release for the 7/16/07 episode:

THE CONTESTANTS TRY TO TURN LEFTOVERS INTO MASTERPIECES, AND EACH TEAM DESIGNS ITS OWN DINNER MENU ON “HELL’S KITCHEN” MONDAY, JULY 16, ON FOX

Winner to Become Head Chef at Fine-Dining Restaurant at Green Valley Ranch Resort, Spa and Casino in Las Vegas

After a decisive dinner service and a swift elimination the night before, the remaining six contestants prepare for their next challenge. Chef Ramsay informs them they must turn trays full of leftovers into delectable meals in just 30 minutes, a challenge he always gives his chefs to test their resourcefulness and creativity. It’s a mad dash as each team sifts through the leftover ingredients in order to come up with one appetizer and two entrees tasty enough to impress Chef Ramsay. While one team fails to “wow” him, the winning team is elated at the challenge reward when they are given the ultimate chance for revenge on Chef Ramsay. At dinner service that evening, the competition gets serious as each team designs and executes its own original menu. When the HELL’S KITCHEN diners seem to be ordering mainly from one team’s menu, lack of teamwork and poor communication may signal the end of one contestant’s dream as “6 Chefs Compete” on HELL’S KITCHEN Monday, July 16 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (HK-307)

The "revenge" sounds like the paintball gun fighting that was briefly shown during the season preview.

It sure seems like whoever had Melissa would have their "worst service ever"...

The July 16 press release says:

While one team fails to “wow” him, the winning team is elated at the challenge reward when they are given the ultimate chance for revenge on Chef Ramsay.

If this is the paintball we saw in the preview, could we pick out any of the cheftestants from it? Could this revenge also go with the clip we saw of Bonnie (I think) in a confessional saying something about Chef needs to know that someone is planning something against him? If so, we know she doesn't go out this week.

When the HELL’S KITCHEN diners seem to be ordering mainly from one team’s menu, lack of teamwork and poor communication may signal the end of one contestant’s dream

This sounds like the blue team, also. The worst communication problem the red team has left is Jen not being assertive enough, and that may well change now that she doesn't have to fight Melissa all the way.

Just watched the two HK promos on Fox.com, and while it's nothing overt, I got a vibe that Chef may have turned a little against Julia. I hope not, but ...

Also, loved the bit with Rock telling MElissa to lean on the team. Yeah, like that will happen.

July 23rd episode on TVguide online

Chef Ramsay consolidates the five remaining contestants into one team, but first they must compete against each other to impress 100 hungry high-school students. The winner (and a contestant of his or her choice) gets a trip to the Green Valley Ranch resort in Las Vegas, where this year's ultimate winner will be offered a job. Later, a power struggle and a mistake (one too many, actually) mar the dinner service.

On Rock's MySpace, someone comments something like "everyone who knows anything knows you won this". And then the person proceeds to rant at Rock and rip him a new one. I hope the person is wrong. Rock didn't comment because he said he's not allowed to, per his contract.

Uh oh...here's the TiVo guide description of the 7/23/07:

"A heated power-struggle" Chef Ramsay combines the remaining five chefs into one team; the chefs must compete head-to-head with individual dishes to impress trendsetters; two contestants have a heated power-struggle; chef Ramsay makes a heartfelt offer.

Seems to be the episode that EP Arthur Smith mentioned regarding GRrrr doing something special for one of the cheftestants. I'm a little conflicted. On the one hand, I hope the offer is to Julia, but on the other hand, if it is her, it probably means she's eliminated this episode.

The "trendsetters" are likely high school students. There's a brief shot of GRrrr walking through what looks to be a high school cafeteria in the extended preview and I vaguely recall reading an article a few weeks ago during my search for spoilers about a high school student posting information about the cheftestants and the results several months before the show even began airing and then getting the smackdown from FOX (so the posts were removed).

Also, it's obvious that Rock is involved in the power struggle, but I wonder who the other lparty is? Jen seems too passive to fight with him.

I hope something wonderful comes out of this for Julia. I've yet to see anyone online who dislikes her. She just seems to have a knack for cooking, learns quickly, and seems a decent sort of person. Chef Ramsay seems to like this type of (humble, hard working) person best.

I don't mind the other two women who remain, either. But Jen squicked me out with her garbagsketti, and Bonnie can seem a bit dingy at times. Bonnie is a decent cook and has a good palate, so maybe with her it's lack of confidence. In which case, she should learn to comport herself with more authority, because she does seem to have talent.

Here's the detailed FOX press release for the 7/23 episode:

THE REMAINING FIVE CONTESTANTS ARE JUDGED BY SOME DISCERNING TRENDSETTERS ON “HELL’S KITCHEN” MONDAY, JULY 23, ON FOX

Winner to Become Head Chef at Fine-Dining Restaurant at Green Valley Ranch Resort, Spa and Casino in Las Vegas

With only five chefs remaining in the competition, Chef Ramsay combines them into one team and they celebrate their survival thus far in HELL’S KITCHEN. Chef Ramsay tells the contestants that their next challenge will involve competing head-to-head with individual dishes to impress some very special trendsetters. The contestants are blindfolded and escorted off-site, only to find that the judges-of-honor are 100 hungry and very opinionated high school students. One chef handily wins the votes of the hungry high-schoolers and is rewarded with a special trip with Chef Ramsay and a contestant of their choosing to the Green Valley Ranch resort in Las Vegas, where they meet up with a familiar face. Back in HELL’S KITCHEN, the contestants prepare the restaurant for the upcoming dinner service. That evening, the job goes anything but smoothly as two contestants engage in a heated power struggle. After one too many mistakes, Chef Ramsay loses his patience, and in a fit of rage sends one contestant packing in the middle of dinner service. Then, at a very emotional elimination that evening, Chef Ramsay makes a heartfelt offer to a deserving contestant as “5 Chefs Compete” on HELL’S KITCHEN Monday, July 23 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (HK-308)

It sounds like the high school is the challenge and not the actual service. So Julia could very well win that and then be the weakest in the dinner service.

I am guessing that the high school will be like last years challenge for the construction men. Each contestant makes a dish and the one who sells the most of their dish wins.
