S2: Travis vs Benji -- do you think Travis got the shaft?
Nick vs Benji -- what do you think about the behaviour of Season 1's winner (Nick) towards Season 2's winner (Benji) before and after Benji was announced as the winner?
S3: ??? vs ???
Basically I thought that if anyone felt compelled to get into the drama that there ought to be a thread for it rather than bogging down any existing threads with arguments that never seem to get resolved.

Care to fill me in? Was Nick being snotty to Benji?

But the old thread is SOOOOOOOO massive, I do not have the desire to search through but I'm sure someone could help us out eventually.
And yes - dance off's would completely captivate me - especially in the Ashlee/Melody style from Season 1!

I loved the Melody/Ashle "dance off" too. Very fitting that they were the final two women left.

I want to see a dance-off between all four of them Dammit!
AHHHH ... Excellent ideas!!!
This is one of the best original uses of forum space ever, imho.
All 4: remarkable dancers.
I'd like to hear opinions about Blake v Nick v Travis contemporary dancers. How do they rank for the rest of you?

Hmmm, full disclosure makes me first say that I have seen both Travis and Nick dance in person. Blake brings the hot, Nick brings the amazing technique and a lot of goofiness, and Travis brings the soulfulness. I'm not sure I can rank them - can we just line them up side by side? How do they rank for the rest of you?
Further to that - if we were just doing two at a time out of the four guys, I'd want to see Nick against all three of the others and Travis additionally against Blake. I think Nick and Benji could be as adorkable as Tranji was - however, I doubt Nick would ever agree to do such a thing. In the end, some of Nick's behavior publicly has been disappointing, but so has some of Benji's and Blake's. I never bought into the drama about things Travis said last summer, because he's young and I understood what he was trying to say - even when it didn't come out very well.

IIRC, he blogged about supporting a "real" dancer or the one who is technically the best. That sort of thing. So in his support of his friend Travis, he indirectly (and directly in some cases) insulted everything that made Benji loveable and appealing to his fans.Nick was very, very VERY vocal in his support for his friend Travis and it often veered into rudeness (imo) where I believe Nick even said Benji didn't deserve to win (but I may be recalling this incorrectly)
I looked for the references, but wowee, that is one looooong thread. Didn't find it.

If it helps, I remember it too, GoodThings. Count me in as another who discounts all the personal nonsense. It's the sadder side of internet access - it's not like this kind of thing hasn't always been said, but before it used to be to your buddy going to class, not to millions of people who suddenly think they know you. JMO. I am a non-discriminatory ignorer of those things.
Blake brings the hot, Nick brings the amazing technique and a lot of goofiness, and Travis brings the soulfulness.
It's a relief to hear you say Nick brings the technique, Hyper Critical, 'cause I wouldn't know. I think I must have some form of latent reptilian technique-dar, though. I seem to love it whether I know what I'm talking about or not. I really enjoyed Nick's performances. It helped that he did so well at ballroom, too.
Blake didn't bring the hot for me, so I just plain flat-out missed that train. Travis as soulful ... yes, I see that. Travis is the hardest one for me to pin down. I like him, but I really don't know why.

It's hard for me to define what it is about Nick, and remember I have seen him often in person - there is just this light as air perfection when he dances. Even when he is just demonstrating a combo in class... hard to define. He also is hilarious - a complete goofball. It's a relief to hear you say Nick brings the technique, Hyper Critical, 'cause I wouldn't know.

which led me to remember this exchange in the DwtS threads. I brought it over because I'm willing to bet neither NewsGirl2 nor fallaway would mind. (At least I hope not!)
"[o]ne of the things that judges look for in dancing is the ability for the couple to create lots of volume with their bodies and nobody does that better in this competition than Apolo and Julianne." What does that mean? NewsGirl2
It means to create stretch through the spine and sides of the body to make full, 3-dimensional shapes, both individually, and then using the connections to your partner to make even larger shapes for the partnership. fallaway
Nick had lovely stretch and partnership shaping. I can't describe it much better than that. I think it has something to do with the "light as air perfection". In any case, I love this quality. Whatever it was, it was great for ballroom.
To do a little compare and contrast, Travis didn't seem to do that. Jamile, actually, was getting some idea of it in his ballroom. I don't know if that makes sense.

from Benji's MySpace:
I didn't get to see Lacey and I on the show last week. I was unfortunately at Gwen's concert in toronto. Ashlee Nino from sytycd2 (Ben and Dimitri's partner) got me seats last mintute and I couldn't resist. I totally forgot the show was gonna be on...I thought it wasnt gonna show till next thursday. But I did get to see it thru the grace of youtube.
I am so excited that Lacey is gonna get her shot at vegas!!! That is the coolest ever. I truly hope people will give her a chance before they scrutinize her because they might be bitter that i won or whatever. She's her own dancer. I don't even need to say that she IS going to win this year, or be cocky or bostful about anything.
But I will say this. I love her more than anything in this point in my life. She's done so much for me to get me back into dancing when I was in a dark place. We pieced that little routine together in 20 minutes or so (and once again like they did to me last year edited the music to the wrong part of the dance lol) and it was just as nerve racking if not more this time around than last to be on that stage. I wish people would've seen the whole thing. It was pretty killer if i do say so myself lol. They missed out on so many things, but either way Im glad finall people got to see the other girl I dance with, who happens to be my best friend and sister. Gosh that is so cool. I'm her #1 fan.

This is for the "I hated Benji so now I am going to hate Lacey" people I've seen posting on the net...
Surprisingly, I feel like most of the Anti-Lacey sentiment is coming from the Benji fans. I could go through the episode thread from Wednesday and cherry pick lots of comments, but I don't feel like taking the time. I actually found that much of what I didn't care for about Benji was less prominant in Lacey. The bottom line is that we don't really have enough information to judge Lacey yet, and I for one would like to see what she can do before I say that I don't like her. Bottom line is, the Benji fans would do well to remember his MySpace rant and give her a fair shot.

Basically, if people insist on making the ep threads about this dancer vs this dancer -- we'd rather have it over here so the ep threads can be about the episode.

I'm not completely familiar with season one, as I've been unable to watch all the episodes. What was the "dance off" between Melody/Ashle?
As for my own suggestion for a SYTYCD celebrtity death match, I'd like to see Anya and Pasha (a couple I unabashedly adore) up against Heidi and Benji!

During "hell week", Melody and Ashle had a dance off in Dan Karaty's hip-hop class. They were very in your face and aggressive, but when they were done (Ashle slowly but surely overtook Melody), I think they hugged and laughed, which really showed what true professionals and nice people they were.
Craig had a similar dance-off with a guy in Dan's class, which was also great fun. I still think Craig got eliminated way too early.
As for celebrity death matches, I want to see:
- Nick vs Travis vs Danny in a spin-off
- Blake vs Neil in a gymnastic solo-off (let's show everyone what a true outstanding solo is like)
- Artem vs Dmitry and Pasha in a Russian beefcake-off (I think they would kick Dmitry's ass and then go out for a beer)
- Jesus and Jason in a who-got-most-screwed-off
- Jaimie and Melody in an HMV-off
- Jonnis vs Erin vs Joy vs season 3 Ashlee in a cannon-fodder off
- Doriana and Dan in a bad choreographer-off (write-in winner - Lita and Olita)

I wanna see a Kameron V Jaimie in a "My partner carried me to the top ten" off.
I say Kameron wins just because Hok didn't do a very good job at all as a carrier if that was his supposed role. He was out before she! AND they hit the bottom multiple times where as "kamcey" was safe every time. Also I say as contestants they were about equal. Hok had more stage presence where as Jamie had more classical technique. Kam lacked presence and technique to a certain extent ( I say this being a fan) where as Lacey had both, maybe too much of both for her own good.
- Nick vs Travis vs Danny in a spin-off
Danny wins hands down. His spins at least vary in style. Travis's sit-spin stands out so much because it was the first time we saw him do something different (this is all coming from memory of course)
Artem vs Dmitry and Pasha in a Russian beefcake-off (I think they would kick Dmitry's ass and then go out for a beer)
Didn't watch season 1 so between D and P? I almost want to give it to Dima for the Hip Hip number but then I remembered he wasn't versatile at all and then I picked Pasha.

I don't know enough about Artem, but between Pasha & Dmitry in a beefcake-off...Dmitry by a non-existent chest hair. In a dance off...Pasha all the way.- Artem vs Dmitry and Pasha in a Russian beefcake-off (I think they would kick Dmitry's ass and then go out for a beer)
Don't forget Tyce DiOrio for worst choreographer...ugh. He ruins broadway everytime.
Wade Robson zombie choreography 1 vs. Wade Robson zombie choreography 2 vs. Wade Robson zombie choreography 3
Mia choreo for Travis & Heidi vs. Mia choreo for Neil & Lacey
I know my pick.

I wish this were self-evident! I'd choose the Bench, but there's a lot of discussion about being "benched" and/or being a "prop." You? And why?Mia choreo for Travis & Heidi vs. Mia choreo for Neil & Lacey. I know my pick.
I was surprised not to find something like this next list, given Nigel's remarks about Blake and Danny:
1. Danny v. Blake in Contemporary (leaning more towards ballet than modern)
2. Danny v. Blake in Contemporary (leaning more towards modern than ballet)
3. Danny v. Blake in non-Latin ballroom
4. Danny v. Blake in Latin (is it called "Latin ballroom"? I'm SO unfamiliar w/ terminology in this area!)
My picks (I'll elaborate if anyone's curious)
1. Danny by a mile
2. Danny by a hair
3. Danny by a mile
4. Blake by a half-mile :)
Thoughts?

Watched Bench over the weekend and it was so marvelous. While yes, it was staged because it was choreographed, it felt less manipulative. More organic. I understand Mia's dance for Neil & Lacey, but it just felt contrived and that it was supposed to make me feel something rather than just being about expressing feelings through dance. It was nice in it's way, but not my cuppa.Mia choreo for Travis & Heidi vs. Mia choreo for Neil & Lacey
I know my pick.
They both came about the same time in the competition, so we knew the individual dancers and what they were capable of, but never had we seen that from Heidi and it made her final four worthy indeed!
Didn't see most of season 1 so I can't make the comparison between Danny & Blake. Hope there will be an All-Stars SYTYCD.

Spot on, isiscloud. I'd choose Bench, too. Mostly for the innovative moves and - this is going to sound funny - they made interesting moving pictures, all within a frame, and all without touching each other much. I found it very different.
So, DeathMatch Picks:
1. Danny for his musical expression and softness
2. Blake for his stylistic strength and hardness
3. Danny by every measure possible. I hated Blake's waltz. HA-ted. Don't get me started. ;)
4. Danny in Latin by a mile. Is a country mile longer than a mile? If so, then that. I think Blake was good, maybe better, technically. But, for me, Danny sizzles whereas Blake was ice cold.
(in fairness, tries to magine Latin dancing in Antarctica ... ... nope, it's not working for me.)

(See post #27 here)I'm curious!
1. Danny in contemporary with more ballet by a mile because if Danny can kick ABT corps members' behinds, he certain can outdo Blake (go to dannytidwell.com and find there articles about his being a standout as a corps performer)
2. Danny in contemporary with more modern by a hair b/c Blake, unlike, say, Nick and Danny, doesn't seem to me to integrate as much artistic and emotionally stunning choreography interpretation. Love Blake's power, don't love his transitions.
3. Danny in ballroom. justmy2cents said it best: Danny by every measure possible. I hated Blake's waltz. HA-ted. Don't get me started. ;) (I'd love to "get you started," b/c I want to hear technique/aesthetic comparisons between their waltzes)
4. Blake in Latin by a half-mile: b/c I wanted to pick sensuous Danny over Iceman Blake but I'm a sheep who follows what I think are ballroom experts; latter have commented that Blake's Samba technique was excellent, and I don't know Latin very well!
Hee!(in fairness, tries to magine Latin dancing in Antarctica ... ... nope, it's not working for me.)
And Bench for the same reasons as isiscloud and jm2cents, plus I thought Heidi both performed vulnerability and was vulnerable, such that Travis's role as ambivalent/ultimately leaving deepened the emotional dimension of her performance. And I'm old-fashioned, got the sense in that dance that he was "protecting" her (despite leaving), or that he had once been very protective of/connected to her. (He held her gaze while they were trying to touch through the bench grate, he caught her so fiercely and gently when she leaped into his arms . . .). Not sure if what I'm saying makes sense. (So what else is new?)
