Love her? Hate her? Think she needs to endorse a line of earplugs?

Mary kinda grates on my last nerve, but for the most part, she knows her stuff - especially regarding any of the ballroom dances - and is therefore a great addition to the show. And, she's not half as annoying as that Bruno guy on DWTS - yikes!

I think the judges on SYTYCD are way better than most of the other reality competition judges.

I agree that Mary grates sometimes but I agree even more with the knowing her stuff part. She seems to give legitimate, useful feedback (when she's not screaming).

Love her, love the scream, really hope that Brian makes it back to the judges table at least once to scream in unison with her again! I'm a little sad that she won't be choreographing this year though.

The thread title slays me, Shenanigan. Very funny!

I like some of her comments. I want to hate the scream (but I really don't). I actually love how emotional she is (most of the time).

I am amazed by how many feathers she can wear at one time and still think that she's dressed in street (non-dancing) clothing.

I spend more time wondering why she DOESN'T say stuff than I do thinking about what she says.

In summary, she's pretty fascinating. I'm glad she's on. And yes, Hyper Critical, I really hope Brian makes it back to sit with her again!

Thank you! It's my first thread title, so I didn't want it to suuuuck.

I enjoy Mary, for the most part. I'm looking forward to watching her swigging from her cup of secret brown jidging juice and driving Nigel crazy.

I gotta agree with nqcskate. Why, oh why, is she back on this show? Oh yeah, she's actually a pretty good jidge. She's one of those types of people that actually gives constructive criticism instead of lavish praises *achemBrunoachem* or deadpan insults *achemSimonNigelachem*. She wants people to get better at dancing it seems, even when they apparently have no talent.

At the same time, that voice. That laugh. That scream.

Hyper Critical, why isn't she choreographing this year? Did I miss the memo, or is my memory leaving me from a year ago?

ETA: Grammar is first taught in the first grade, yet I must have missed that first lesson.

She got "promoted" to permanent judge like Nigel. It's somewhere on the site on FOX.

I think her laugh is adorable, and I love her judging style. She isn't trying to find a witty put-down like so many other reality judges, and she isn't too sweet to tell the truth.

She's very refreshing.

Yay, crazy Mary! Someone pass that woman a drink ASAP! The less inhibited she is, the better, in my opinion!

Hyper, I agree with you, bring on the Unison scream!. The way Brian looked over at her and perfectly imitated her was priceless. And boo on her not doing any choreo. Now who's going to bring back Artim and Dmetri and get bitchy when the Russians stand around talking in Russian.(forgive the spelling)

Shine on you crazy diamond.

Ugh, Mary infuriates me! I can't believe she's a permanent judge this year, how torturous! The screaming is bad, but the PUNS are even worse...Oh Mary, while your screaming makes my ears fall off, it's nothing compared to the pain in my brain as your puns destroy my sanity, slowly but surely. My shoulders would be in a permanent "cringe" position if it wasn't for the wonders of fast forwarding.

BTW, LOVE the thread title, too! It makes her sound a cavewoman - barbaric, LIKE HER HUMOUR.

*sigh* how cathartic!

A pun? I missed it?

In defense of puns, I think ANY joke would have a hard time picking itself back off the floor after Mary's delivery of it.

That said, I still like and am fascinated by Mary. And I certainly understand mileage varies about puns. :(

I didn't hear any puns in the first ep but she uses them a LOT or just really lame play on words, to comment on the dances during the performance stage.
Like Musa and Natalie's Disco routine to Donna Summer's Hot Stuff, she screeched "The song says looking for some hot stuff and I think we found it! WOOO!!!" or to Benji and Donyelle's Hip Hop 'Too Much Booty In Da Pants' (I think) "There was a whole lotta booty shakin' going on and it was all shakin' in the right direction!"

Yeah, that kind of humour is just completely lost on me, but I'm guessing a lotta people would feel differently...*waits for the stones to come, but doesn't mind cause it'll be a swifter, less painful death than death by Mary Murphy Humour*

On a more POSITIVE note: I liked her choreography on Travis and Heidi's Paso Doble "Plaze of Execution". Loved how they started with Heidi upside down, so dramatic :)

I'm not a huge fan of her puns but I really do appreciate her fake outs! Watching the poor contestants think they are about to be praised and then get smashed or about to be smashed and then get praised is amusing to the evil side of me. slinks off...

edited because it's important to spell correctly when one is being evil....

hee hee ...

I've liked Mary's paso choreography. Just looked up in Wikipedia: she also did Jaymz/Jessica's foxtrot, Ben/Ashlee's jive, and the Footloose group number. I don't remember anything remarkable about those.

I can't help but like her. Sure, she can be annoying sometimes, but she's just so enthusiastic, which I appreciate. Even when she's reaching eardrum bursting decibels, at least it's obvious that she's enjoying being there, unlike other judges on other reality shows.

I agree she relies way too much on the title of the song to cue her judging remarks. It ceased to be witty in the first Season.

Did they really need to make her a permanent judge? As if she wasn't already hogging more and more airtime that could be graced instead by Brian and Mia. But I saw it going in that direction throughout Season 2, so alas, I'm not surprised.

Isn't Brian working on a project in London?

I've always known Mary's guffawing was a cover for a hard edge, but I was still disappointed in her comments to EJ Sierra, saying she was "horrified" because he rolled around on the floor and touched his face. "Horrified"? People have done that on the show before, more than once. Was she horrified because of his weight? Or because he was probably gay? She certainly seemed repulsed from the start of his routine. She really brought a nastiness to the judging and although I know this isn't new (she made some very negative comments to Donyelle at the end of last season which were edited out of the final performance episode), but I'm still very demoralized.

Shane does a pretty good Mary Murphy impression. Spot-on.

Her cackling and screaming are possibly even more annoying this year than before. I value her ballroom judgments, but not much else.

I also get a Marie Osmond vibe from her. A "Marie Osmond on speed or crack" vibe to be more specific.

Has anyone else noticed that she shows a fixed "smile" with a double row of teeth when she doesn't like someone? The teeth separate when she does like them...

p.s. Can't fault the woman for the screaming and laughing though. I'm pretty much a screamer and a laugher myself.

All I could notice last night is that her hair was OUT. OF. CONTROL. I was really big even for her.
