New FX Show Damages to star Glenn Close. FX is certainly getting some heavy hitters. Even though she was on The Shield, for Glenn to have her own TV show...wow.

Ted Danson, Tate Donovan and Zeljko Ivanek also star. Ted Danson hasn't done much since Becker and that was pretty cringe-worthy. Tate Donovan? Eh. Hopefully, Glenn will be able to carry most of it. I've never heard of Zeljko Ivanek.

Zeljko Ivanek.

Ah, he played the governor in Oz. One of those H!ITGs. Haven't seen much more about this show. It's just going into production. I'm sure that when it's ready, FX will promote the hell out of it.

Rose Byrne is in it too and I quite like her, as well as Glenn Close so I'll watch it. FX is getting some great people, even though this show sounds generic it could be really good with her and I like Tate Donovan and Ted Danson given the right project and script.

Technically it should be "Watch out, bunnies." Otherwise the phrase implies we should watch out for bunnies. Hey, the show isn't on yet, this is all I got.

Anya from Buffy would be watching out for the bunnies. Good call Frog. I'll see what I can do to update it.

ETA: Yeah, the title is a little generic for FX. The Riches, Nip/Tuck, The Shield, Dirt, Rescue Me. Damages is pretty lame.

I was just joshing you. No big.

Anya: [sings] Bunnies aren't just cute like everybody supposes. They got them hoppy legs and twitchy little noses. And what's with all the carrots? What do they need such good eyesight for anyway? Bunnies. Bunnies. It must be bunnies. Or maybe midgets.

He was also one of the villains, who turned out to be Dennis Hopper's elder son, in the first season of 24.

I'm looking forward to this. Roush liked the pilot, I'm intrigued by the idea of a legal drama that "never goes into the court room", can't wait to see Glenn Close headline a show, and I've recently become a fan of Rose Byrne since I saw her in I Capture the Castle and Troy so that's another incentive.

The only thing I'm not too keen on is the title. It's a bit... meh. And I keep flashing back to the Louis Malle film with Juliette Binoche. Must be the Jeremy Irons-Glenn Close connection.

I have a silly question: This show shoots and takes place in New York, right?

I read something about it earlier and the article mentioned something about ths show being shot in LA and I got all confused. Didn't Glenn Close leave The Shield because it shot in LA?

Anyway, I'm psyched for this show. After that craptasticness of Dirt, I'm ready for F/X to get back on track.

I'm willing to give this a shot entirely on the strength of Glenn Close, who earned some serious goodwill with me after her too short but awesome run on The Shield. Everybody else...don't care yet.

EW just came out with their summer TV preview edition and I read my first news of this show beyond "Glenn Close FX legal drama." That description made me "meh," because I don't like legal dramas for some reason.

But after I read the review, I might give this one a shot. An anti-heroine? Have we had one of those yet? GC did great on The Shield but I never truly bought her as a cop; as a lawyer, she doesn't need the street-tough edge to make her believable.

This is probably the line that hooked me: "a charismatic attorney who specializes in righteous lawsuits against the powerful (white hat!), and often resorts to dubous hardball tactics to win (black hat!)."
This is the kind of grey area that mesmerizes me, and I would love to have FX pull off a female-driven drama. Dirt doesn't count, obviously.

On the subject of the thread title, I honestly did a double-take a few weeks back when I first saw it, and my stupid brain said, "is this about Anya? What?" But it's a great thread title.

During tonight's episode of "The Riches", it said that it was going to be run at 10:00 pm on Tuesday nights, starting on July 24th. But won't "Rescue Me" still be running in that time slot at that time?

As far as I can tell, it's NYC-based. The on-set stills that I saw were from NYC, and Glenn Close confirms it's "shot in [her] backyard,":

Rescue Me is on Wednesday nights.

Now that I've seen more previews, it looks good, but I'll reserve further judgment until I see the show. My husband enjoyed Dirt.

I am SO excited for this show. So very excited. It just looks SO good. I love Glenn Close in anything she wants to do, and I love FX's original programming (Rescue Me and Nip/Tuck are the best things ever), so I will watch anything they put out.

What I like about this is that it sounds very different from the other legal procedurals that are all over the TV, not only for the kind of darker tone that feels kind of noir-ish a little, but because it's more arc oriented and not case-of-the-week type stuff. And, because it's worth a second mention, that cast is outstanding. Cannot. Wait.

20 Hot TV Shows for Summer | 2. DAMAGES

A young lawyer (28 Weeks Later's Rose Byrne) staggers, bloody, out of an apartment building. But before we even learn who she is, we flash back to six months earlier, as she lands her dream job. ''Now,'' says co-creator Glenn Kessler, ''it's a question of how in the world these things link up

Hmmm, where have I noticed this pattern before? Something about a bunch of people stranded on an island.

Really, a lot of shows are incorporating flashback sequences, ala Lost, into their episodes which is making a neat concept really overdone.

I will watch only because I DIG Glenn Close and Ted Dansen looks like he's going to chew the scenery as well. You all may remember him as Becker or Sam, but I'll always remember Ted's head sticking out of the sand on the beach as the waves drown him in 'Creepshow'!!

TV shows have always incorporated flashbacks in their narrative, LOST was just the first (as far as I know) to do it every episode. I'm gonna stick with LOST until the bitter end, but I'm fairly sure the last season and a half of that show was written by crack weasels. Damn you, JJ Abrams!

Ahem. Anyway, if the show does well, I wonder what they'd do for the next season?

You all may remember him as Becker or Sam, but I'll always remember Ted's head sticking out of the sand on the beach as the waves drown him in 'Creepshow'!!

Oh. My God. I haven't thought about this in so long. Hee.

ETA: The new Ask Ausiello:

Question: So are there actually any good shows on this summer? Anything you would recommend?— Meg

Ausiello: Mad Men on AMC (premieres July 19) and Damages on FX (premieres July 24) are not to be missed.

There's an article in the NY Daily News about Glenn Close and "Damages," and she talks about how much she loves the writing for the show, and how much she loves being on a show for FX because they explore gray areas of characters and take risks (which I agree with, personally, it's why I love their shows!)

Reading about how much she likes the show and the cast and everything makes me feel good about this!

I've been seeing more previews of this show, and I'm getting so excited for it. However, I wonder: are they really advertising it enough? I guess I have some concerns that it might get lost, even with Glenn Close headlining it (and even with such great reviews in advance of it).

Zeljko Ivanek is terrific: I've seen him in some memorable stage performances as well as his TV roles.

The positive reviews seem to be rolling in...there's praise from Robert Bianco in USA Today, a little love from Matt Roush in TV Guide, and some raves from Tom Shales in the WaPo.

All of this sounds fabulous. Can't wait for tonight!
