Bumping to the top for speculation on Keppler or what might happen when Grissom comes back. Remember, spoilers go in the Spoiler thread.

Bumping because I've had an idea....

I think that with all the media coverage of it, it's safe to say that Fox's departure is no longer a spoiler. Now that we've seen Grissom proposing and Sara accepting rather readily, I think that Grissom and Sara will probably remain a couple off-screen. I don't know if that would work if Petersen was going to be around for five or six more years... but from the last four episodes, I'm seriously doubting whether or not this is going to be the case.

Metaphorically, I've always believed that Grissom the character was meant to be an homage to Sherlock Holmes. Not in the sense that Gregory House (from House) is, with that character being rather pointedly compared to the legendary detective, but rather in the sense that Grissom was meant to be an homage to Holmes and his methods of detecting - which were typically more forensic that psychological (the latter being more typical of Agatha Christie's detectives). Similarly, while Grissom was never directly compared to Holmes as a character, they have some basic traits in common - a love for the bizarre, complete devotion and dedication to their work, a tendency towards misanthropy except for a few individuals. It's not hard to imagine Catherine as Watson or Ecklie as Lestrade or the team as the Baker Street Irregulars... you could even argue that either Sara or Lady Heather is a stand-in for Irene Adler....

Anyway, the point of all that is basically this: in the Sherlock Holmes novels, Holmes eventually ended his detective career. And just what did he do in his retirement?

He began raising bees on the Sussex Downs.

So I am seriously thinking that Grissom's interest in bees this season might be a symbolic signpost that Grissom is nearing the end of his own career in detective work.

I agree that the writers are starting to foreshadow WP's departure. In addition to the bees, there was his complaint last year about being a teacher with no students. Of course, if WP decided to stay on, "foreshadowing" doesn't have a deadline.

If they want Sara to reappear in the future, I wonder if she (and Griss) might consider taking foster kids. Not too troubled, but ordinary teens?

Oh, that is such a great story-line for both of them. Sara & Grissom could try to right some of the wrongs in the system that Sara herself had to go through. It is very in character for both of them. Sara fighting the system and trying to help those who cannot help themselves and Grissom teaching and leading a new generation. Wouldn't it be great for TPTB to run with a story-line like this for them? It could turn into a lovely exit for both of them if Billy decides not to renew his contract.

Honestly to me it seems like this season they are setting up everyone to be leaving or something. Makes me nervous. Sara and Griss running off together. Cath getting the casino. Even Greg is doing some extracurricular activities. :)

That's not a bad idea! I would actually like to see them doing that, but I can't hope too much, because I honestly don't want to be dissapointed at the end! I'm totally expecting the worst already! Heh!

We know Who and What is the crossover, but do we know anything besides that? Is there a case B in this episode, or is it going to be all about the crossover?

Or how about deaf kids? Maybe they start with a young relative of Grissom's.
