Their story has changed so many times, I don't even think Jim Bob and Michelle know what is true and what isn't anymore. "We have 19 children and one in heaven...no wait two in heaven. We didn't know what the sex of the first miscarried baby was...We named our little boy Caleb because of Joshua and Caleb being such good friends in the bible. We started homeschooling Josh when he was 4..5? Wait maybe it was 6? Oh I don't know, but I have 19 children and I gave birth to every one."
When the Tiggers came to live with us, we had to do a lot of remedial work with reading and numbers because their homeschooling was in such bad shape. They used the same program that the Duggars do, not that the program was that bad, but their teacher was someone who barely graduated from high school. As opposed to what Michelle's friend told her, we were told to NOT focus on only one type of reading program. We were told to use phonics, word games, flash cards, read out loud to them and let them read back, anything to get them to catch up to their peers. Anything at all to get them to read was the goal, not just memorizing sounds and words. Watching the howlers, I wonder if that is what is wrong with them. Rote memory, with no creativity is just not a good idea. They are bored with the pace, and of course, as we have all seen, there doesn't seem to be any incentive to further their education. I hate to say this, but even Hannie seems like she isn't progressing much the last year or so. Why anybody would want to take those bright little minds, and dull them down to not much more than simpletons is beyond me. And the comment about well behaved, does this woman never watch her own show to see what those kids are like? Well behaved indeed. Maybe you think Pogo sticking in the house is well behaved, roller blading through the living room, screaming and running like banshees is normal behavior, but that just doesn't fly in my world, and I am not all that strict.
Michelle's behavior is disturbing me more and more. And it really goes past the half truths and outright lies that are becoming commonplace with this group. She seems to be completely incapable of reacting like a normal parent. Her laughing at little Jordyn when she got her head stuck, the filming of the howler that fell in the pit, there is just so much behavior that seems wrong and out of place. A very dear friend of my family died several months ago from complications of dementia. It was heartbreaking to see what the disease did to that once vibrant lady. But as I see Michelle, she reminds me so much of my friend. From the stooped posture, to the blank look in her eyes, to the inappropriate behavior. Something is desperately wrong with her. I don't think she can have dementia in her mid 40's, but I am seriously thinking she had some sort of nervous breakdown, again, after Josie was born. I saw a rerun of one of the specials, the one where they were all trekking cross country, I think they had 16 kids then. She definitely was a different person in that special than we see now. If I wasn't so filled with anger over the way she doesn't raise her own 19 kids, I might feel sorry for her. But then again, probably not.
