Episode description: "The son of a self-made millionaire vanishes on his way to school; a rebel investigator must retrieve the victim."

Edited to add: Hmmmm. The thread seems to have opened early here... well, rather than lock it back up, I'm just going to leave it open and trust that you folks won't start posting until the episode comes to a full a complete halt.

It wasn't bad. I don't love it but there's nothing else on. I'll keep watching.

But I already have a character to hate--the bad boy, anti-FBI guy. Oh, he breaks all the rooolz! He's too cool for school! Ugh, hate. And he's gonna keep beating people up next week too. I want the housekeeper to kick his ass!

I loved it. The Mutant from X-Files is the spider at the center of the evil web.

Jeremy Sisto has surpassed himself in this role. I always like the dark figure outside of official channels who is smarter than everybody else. This specialist will keep my attention all season.

Oh, a dark story with a gruff antihero!! Huzzah!!

And a particularly good cast to boot.

I found it to be incredibly boring. Maybe I was expecting more. I'll still watch next week, but it just didn't hook me like I thought it would.

I liked it. I have a thing for well-done kidnapping stories - providing this is well done.

That said, it's up against Grey's Anatomy. Not good.

And I'm wondering when the first Leopold/Kidnapper slash fanfic will show up.

Hmm.

Ok, first of all -- Conrad? Is this supposed to be TH's good luck charm or something? It can't be an accident.

I thought the premiere was great looking, and the actors are terrific, but oy -- the cliches! Just in the FBI we have the (1) smart professional, on the verge of retirement; (2) the young and smart newcomer hoping to learn and more willing to follow the smart professional than the (3) arrogant bureaucratic asshole.

I'm hoping that they're all piled into the opening and that things get more original in future episodes. I feel hope just because Jeremy Sisto is in the mix. And I like that we've seen the bad guy (Tooms!) rather than have shadowy profiles and shots of gloved hands.

I'll record it once "The Nine" starts and follow along, at least for now.

The acting didn't take me out of the action. Unlike Standoff. Will give it a few more episodes which will be helped by the fact that I have the extended cable box which gives me network channels in several Canadian timezones so that I can always catch it later than 10 if something else is on.

Was the scene with Virgil in the hospital on the DVD sent out by Netflix? I could have sworn that it was the lawyer mentioning Leopold when he complained to the FBI that set Delroy Lindo off on the kidnapping theory.

Or maybe I zoned out for a few seconds there.

I enjoyed it and will watch again. By far the best character is The Accountant though. He should get his own spin-off.

Yes, the Accountant is great. I like that actor.

It's true that there are a lot of types here that we've seen before, but because it's well acted and executed, I am happy to go along.

Great movie, Paul, and it was immortalized in The Fisher King as a porn film, Ordinary Peepholes. Heh.

I pretty much agree with your assessment of the show as well, although I'm not buying Jeremy Sisto's character (I'm a rebel, can't you tell? I only shave once a week) just yet. I am loving Delany, Hutton, and Lindo, however.

Being a New Yorker, I have to point out a goof. They mentioned that the subway station for the money drop was Church Street, but the station they were at is Church Avenue (Church St. is in Manhattan, Church Ave. is in Brooklyn). At first I thought that maybe it was supposed to be a made-up station name, because you only see "Church" on most of the signs in the station. However, there's one shot where you can see an overhead sign that says "Church Av."

In short, liked the show, plotting and actors. I'll be tuning in again next week, especially since there's nothing else on Wednesday nights.

There were obvious cliches (angry/blaming wife, retiring FBI guy, renegade loner), but I think the actors playing those roles pulled it out.

I was tense with the subway and Brooklyn scenes, so that's always a good thing. It kept my interest, unlike other kidnapping shows beings aired this season.

Shouldn't the kidnappers have shot the bodyguard (you know, the guy with the gun) first? And shouldn't this show have made me give a crap about the kidnapee before he was kidnapped to create a little bit of tension? And shouldn't I have spent this hour watching reruns of Criss Angel, Mindfreak instead? (Yes)

I liked it.

One nitpick: Conrad gives himself what appears to be a pretty nasty cut while shaving (if the amount of blood was any indication), then comes downstairs without so much as a scratch on his face.

I only made it to 30 minutes and figure if I can't make it any further I can't amke it a whole season.

I think it was trying a little to hard with cut aways and flashbacks and so forth.

This is easily my favorite of the new fall shows so far. I do love a good powerhouse cast. Not to mention the smart, instead of smartass, kids on the show. When the show ended on the phone call I felt irritated, like somebody was reading a story to me and stopped right at the good part. That's when I knew I was hooked.

I was a little surprised that the Mykelti Williamson bodyguard angle was dropped so quickly. Shouldn't the Delroy Lindo character (sorry, still learning character's names here) be holding a grudge against Conrad? Even if his motives were pure, Conrad basically hung his son's bodyguard out to dry. He didn't know that the bodyguard would be found and hospitalized. So it was kind of odd to me that it was seemingly a non-issue for everybody concerned.

Loved the symmetry of the kid reading the Buddhist book and then being forced to live in what closely resembles a monk's chamber.

Here in the south it's a common thing for grown women to call their fathers "daddy" but it still makes me squirm. Can't wait to meet Daddy and find out why he garners so much more respect than hubby.

Loved Knapp. Or should I call him KidKnapp? But I will spend the season wishing he would bathe, shave and change his clothes.

Count me in for watching the Accountant spinoff show.

I'm happy. Jeremy, Timothy, Dana, good to see y'all again--some great actors here and an original premise. Some of the weird flashback effects were rather pointless, but I think everybody now feels they have to do this sort of thing to be edgy. Just me I'm sure, but I was unduly distracted by the kid's name---other than an occasional king or emperor, has anyone actually been named Leopold? Is this some kind of inside baseball, like "Conrad" ?

Well there was Philidelphia Orchestra conductor Leopold Stokowski. That is the only one I can think of. I think it is just the long version of Leo. If my name was Leo, I think I might go by Leopold too.

Was it ever addressed why nobody noticed the gunfight in the middle of the street?

Leopold was the name of one-half of a famous kidnapping duo. I'm sure if you looked hard enough you would find a famous kidnapping case with people named "Caine."

I thought that this was excellent. Loved seeing Dana Delany and Timothy Hutton. I never liked Jeremy Sisto on SFU but I like him and his assistant here. (I liked how he rescued the girl in the opening.) that the actual kidnapping scene was done very well. Definitely tuning in next week.

My overriding thought: I want that apartment.

Put me in the "OK, but not great" category. I'll watch at least one more episode to see if it really catches me. I mostly tuned in because I think Delroy Lindo's awesome, even if he's playing the same role as in Ransom.

This is hopelessly nerdy, but I was bugged by the unnecessary use of quotation marks in both the ransom note and the subtitles.

No doubt Leopold's ability to hold his breath will come into play at some point... and is it just me, or did it look like he had a scar on his chest in the pool scene? Coupled with his mom's reference to his medication, it makes me think he's going to have some kind of heart issue or something as the show goes on. Of course it's not enough for the kid just to be kidnapped; no doubt TPTB will give him an urgent health issue as well to ramp up the "suspense."

I've made it my personal mission to see every single new show out of boredom and so far this is the only one i'm interested in. With my attention span that's incredible.

Or I may just find Jeremy Sisto fine as all hell since SFU.
