Figure I'd start a thread since his first runway show next Friday won't be on topic in the existing "Project Jay" thread.

From that thread though:

His runway show for PR was amazing, the best thing to come out of the show.

I totally agree. Loved those clothes with a passion. Loved Jay, too, and I hope his very first show knocks everyone's socks off. (And I hope I can afford something from his line.)

Will the show be broadcast on television, by any chance? I'm thinking the Style channel maybe? I obviously can't go to New York, and even if I could, I don't think they'd let me sneak into Bryant Park... I so want to see the show! I know there'll be photos afterwards, but it's not the same.

I may have to bumrush the show ....

Jay is such entertaining TV, too. I really just love him and will totally buy anything no matter how it looks if he also has the distribution lined up. But I hope it looks great and the show is kickass.

I cant wait to see his collection at Fashion Week. I have very little doubt it will be more innovative and cohesive than any of the PR3 finalists.

I'm so happy for Jay. I can't wait to see his new line. Good on him for taking his time and doing it his own way. I know he took some flack from people like Tim Gunn, but I really respect him for his ethical stance on "cruelty-free clothes". I read that the Humane Society is sponsoring him:

HSUS Sponsors Jay McCarroll at N.Y. Fashion Week

Fur-free fashion designer Jay McCarroll, winner and star of the fashion-based reality show Project Runway, has partnered with HSUS's Fur-Free Campaign to debut the designer's spring collection at New York Fashion Week in September. The joint project and others to be announced later this year will focus the spotlight on compassionate fashion.

McCarroll will also act as a judge for this fall's Cool vs. Cruel fashion design contest, which encourages fashion design students to learn about the suffering and death (video: extremely graphic images) that go into producing the 50 million-plus animal pelts that enter the garment trade each year.

"I'm thrilled to work with The HSUS because I care about animals and love making great clothes that don't cause animals to suffer," McCarroll said. "With so many fun and fashionable alternatives, there's no reason to use fur. As a designer, I know that compassion is in fashion, and the animals need their fur more than I do."

I agree that Jay's collection will probably be more innovative and amazing than any of this season's finalists.

This would be too much for any designer to take on, I think, but if he really wanted to be humane, forget about the animals being killed to make these garments: think about the sweatshop laborers making a buck a day churning out Gucci, Gap and Ann Taylor product. I remember hearing Jay wanted to make cheap fashion. Well somebody pays for cheap - even if it ain't the consumer.

That said, mucho kudos to Jay for thinking about them furry critters! And map props for getting to show at Olympus!!!

Jay refused the mentoring from Banana Republic because he didn't want to learn about which sweatshops in China to purchase his fabric from. He's all about the fair labor practices. American Apparel and other companies do cheap and fair at the same time.

I'm really excited to see his new line. It's amazing that it's only been a year and a half since he won the first PR. It seems so long ago. I hope he'll get some (good) press.

I wonder if his show would broadcast online?

I can't wait to see his collection. I wonder if he'll feel any backlash from other designers because of his strong anti-fur stance (which makes me love him even more), but I always think of the big designers as using fur/leather. (I am a total fashion novice, by the way, so I could be wrong)

According to this, his inspiration for this line is Archigram, an architectural movement in the late 60's/early 70's in England, air balloons, and the B-52’s. Sounds very interesting.

Zonder, Jay talked a bit about not wanting to use sweatshop labor for his collection in the Road to the Runway episode of Season 3. I don't know the specifics though and if it is even possible these days.

In the backstage pics of Jay's show on Getty Images there are a lot of black wigs. I can't wait to see the collection!

There are a lot more pictures up at Getty Images now if you search for his name. He has a few menswear designs in his show. I kind of like it all... the color pallette is nice. It's very mod-looking, though.

I love it. I'm head over heels crazy with it. It is so different and so JAY! He is the best to come out of PR by far.

ETA: calvinthefish, I think I read somewhere that they wouldn't be able to make it becasue they are doing the judging of the PRS3 contestants during his show. Hopefully they finished early and were able to come and watch Jay's amazig show.

I love it too! Of course, I love Jay so maybe I'm biased.

I heard none of the PR people are going to be there because they're busy filming the final judging for this season. Anybody have a pictures that prove otherwise? I would love to know what Tim thinks!

Wow! Loving it! It isn't quite as much my style as his first collection was, but I think they're both on the same level while being very unique.

Love this... it's so striking... perhaps a better fit with his last collection but wow!

After looking at the current designer's collections and thinking "eh, kind of what I expected"... it's refreshing to have Jay back again!

Just like his final collection 2 seasons ago, his creations from today's show are so fresh and futuristic looking yet still quite accessible. When I browsed through the Getty Images this time around, I got the exact exhiliration and joy as when I saw his first collection. Bravissimo!

Absolutely fantastic line. I am so impressed with him and his sure designer's voice and identifiable style. I love that he mixed in male clothing, and that his clothes are colorful and funky yet so very wearable. They look so comfortable and fun and have the loveliest casual lines.

I am so happy for him, and for PR for jump starting his career.

I love it, it's fabulous. He did a great job of making it very Jay and it's different enough and it does seem a bit more wearble. And I want some of those sweaters.

Once again he produces gimmicky cartoony work. Use Bold colors, add contrasting skin tones and mix well with wacky accessories and presto: Jay Mccarrol.

Molto Bravo, Jay!

He has some kind of wacky genius vision, right? I love it so much! And his color sense is so rad. It's everywhere from autumnal orange to icy glacial blue to acid green to white and black. Gosh. It's just brilliant. I'm so happy for him!

I wonder if he did the jewelry too. It complimented the graphic embellishments on some of the pieces.

Could I please love that long color-blocked sweater with the cap sleeves a little more? I don't think so. It is so adorable, especially with the way the blues are laid out across the top, with the warmer colors coming in down on one hip. I must have it. That and the cunning little white trench with the aqua and green blocks on it.

Yay Jay!

I absolutely love Jay's collection and it was definitely worth the wait. He truly is an artist. He has a a strong personal vision but it's still accessible and his shows just completely draw you in. Even the stuff I couldn't/wouldn't wear I loved. I'm really happy for him.
