Anyway, they're laying groundwork for Leopold to be throwing some wrenches in the works, which I love. He obviously won't get free til the last show (unless it gets canceled!), but it will be fun to see where the pill-hiding and trying to "dig" his way out will lead. He'll obviously play on the Spanish guy's sympathy and result in a fight between the two babysitters.
But I was thinking: If you were Knapp, wouldn't you prod the parents to threaten not to do business unless they get to talk to Leo to make sure he's alive? Seems like it's heading that way because they mentioned a couple of times about getting to speak to him, and Knapp asked if they let the boy talk on the phone. So if they try to pull that bluff, the kidnappers would have to move him to whatever place it is that the phone call guy is using, because it's obviously not the same place as the house the kid is in. So there might be some potential for some action, as in moving vehicles, whatever, and I think this would be very boring indeed if we just see a bunch of people in different buildings talking to each other.
My other predictions: Speaking French will factor in. The official site has bios on everyone and Leo's says that he is fluent in French, as is his mother (which we saw in the pilot). Maybe passing on secret instructions over a phone conversation?
I can't see where the Buddhist epistomology factors in, but the bio points out that Leo's interested in it because of Virgil, who will obviously show up again. So there must be a point there.
And the breathing underwater thing. That's one of those things no one else knows except Virgil and Leo, and his father. So I foresee an escape sequence wherein Leo has to go underwater and wait, to hide maybe.
As for suspects...Jeez! The only people I'm counting out right now are Knapp and his girl, the little sister (but not the older one), and Virgil. Everyone else is fair game. The doorman even looked suspicious. If I had to cast one vote, I'd say the cocky FBI guy from Alaska, because he's so inocuous, he knows the drill, he's ambitious.
Hurry up, September!

As a French I can tell you that the kid needs to practice/learn wayyyyyy more to be fluent and don't even get me started on his terrible spelling that made me want to slap him silly. My other predictions: Speaking French will factor in. The official site has bios on everyone and Leo's says that he is fluent in French, as is his mother
In a way I can see the transferred FBI guy to be a mole but at the same time I hope he's not because it would just keep harping on the Ramson plotline. So at worst, I wish he may be suspected, even suspended and investigated for a few episodes only to be proved innocent/framed leading to a new clue on the kidnappers connections with some powerful higher ups administrators of some kind.

Question: what spelling? Did I miss something written?
As for suspects, you'd think it would be someone in the FBI since they'd know all the technology to evade someone, but there are also other ways:
1) Ellie Cain's secret service secret man
2) Conrad Cain may be in with the mob or something; they keep saying he has secrets
3) The college daughter's mysterious boy who she disappeared with could be anybody.
Missing anyone?

That's what I meant by spelling.knows the words to use but doesn't put in any effort to sound like a native.
I'm part of the odd ones who try to erase their accent as much as possible.
I know but for me it's kind of like real life doctors/nurses/cops/lawyers who cringe at TV doctors/nurses/cops/lawyers. You know what I mean?Yeah, I understand about the French, but it is a tv show, not a movie, where they get to spend days working on a scene and prepping the actors
So I'll be in my lonely corner hoping the actors (especially the kid) learn to enunciate/spell better. ;)
I hope the character (and actress) is better than the Senator's daughter on Vanished. The college daughter's

Reading Jeremy Sisto's interview, he threw out something about not spilling all the beans about someone's past all at once, and as an example, said "his wife's dead" or some such. I wonder if that just popped out of his mouth because that's what will really be the case with Knapp? That his character's wife has died? Maybe in a kidnapping?

Rewatching the pilot I noticed a "The Big Blue" (by Luc Besson) poster in Leopold's room so I'm thinking his interest in diving is known my more than just Virgil and his father. Not to mention that his mother saw him with wet hair that morning and his sister was with Virgil when calling Leopold for breakfast. And the breathing underwater thing. That's one of those things no one else knows except Virgil and Leo, and his father.
May I say I loved seeing that poster there because when it came out it was a 'generation defining' movie here so it makes sense that Leopold would have such poster when combining his learning of French and interest in diving.
If Leopold cracks "Roberto! Mio palmo", I'll die laughing.
Now I'll go think of a way to tie in some "Subway" scene (by Besson again) in Kidnapped. What? NYC has a subway so anything is possible. Maybe Leopold's older sister liked that movie.
*ahem*
Maybe the kidnapping has more to do with the grandfather than the father? Maybe (stealing and reworking a page from "Inside Man") he was French and a collaborator during the Vichy era? Maybe the grandchild of a resistant or victim of that terrible period is getting back at the family after all this time? Ordering Leopold's kidnapping first because he's the one who can pass on the family name?
Huge stretch but that's my speculation today.

There are too many suspects! I even suspect Leopold. He is extremely smart, after all. Maybe it's a play for attention from his father, like in all the other kidnap movies?
I loved so much the scene where Knapp has to talk the girl into giving up the gun, that I can't wait for some sort of "meeting" scene between him and Leopold. I don't know, he just seemed to instantly be sensing what she was feeling and trying to work with her, you know?
Me? I got all excited when I saw a Good Charlotte "Chronicles of Life and Death" poster on his wall! My favorite band in the world (what? 48-year-olds can like rock bands!), and one of the best "theme" albums ever made - all the songs cover the same theme - starting with being born, then going through life, and then finally death; just an amazing album. Like you, innamorata, I just have to like someone who likes what I like. :)
I just wish I could find more spoilers or clips or even articles about the show. And I keep reading how great it is, especially compared to Vanished, but when you look at how many people check into sites like this, it seems like no one is even interested in the show, so I'm getting worried that, despite it being a good show, no one will watch it and it will be canceled.

More spoilers and clips would certainly help keep the ball rolling. I don't know how the pilots of so many of the new shows got leaked to the net but (while I'm grateful they were (especially Kidnapped and The Nine)) maybe they were leaked too early, in the sense that the official PR/media promotion didn't follow right afer the leak so there's no real buzz. You know what I mean?I just wish I could find more spoilers or clips or even articles about the show. And I keep reading how great it is, especially compared to Vanished, but when you look at how many people check into sites like this, it seems like no one is even interested in the show, so I'm getting worried that, despite it being a good show, no one will watch it and it will be canceled.
When the Lost and Prison Break were reviewed by the TV critics they kept talking about those shows long before their premiere but this year none of the TV critics (that I keep an eye on at least) have participated in creating such big buzz/expectation for the upcoming shows. It's more along the lines of "X show is coming back and there's a new-not-too-bad-show coming but let's talk about the returning show some more".
Maybe if the media circus had been louder and/or the pilot leaked at a better time more people would have engaged in speculating?
I don't know, but I hope the show's cancellation pool/deathwatch hasn't opened/started just yet (unlike for the awful Vanished).
I know but I got my neurones fired up when I read 'Schroeder Textiles' on the glass behind the bad guy. Now I'm wondering if that name is indeed (remotely) Jewish. That is a pretty huge stretch

Sure but at the same time that's what they hope for. It sounds like money (ads, DVD) to them. And that's not a stretchy spec. ;)TPTB probably just think we're all nuts.

Most importantly, there's a phone number attached to the information for Ellie Cain. Calling it gets her voice mail and a longer message in French. No idea what it is yet, though.
The phone number is 212-703-8877.
There's nothing much else identifiable, and I haven't seen the pilot yet. Regardless, there are a few other things that prick up me clue-finding organs. The FBI case file is #0616122500. There's also a mug shot with "GUNMAN AT KIDNAP SCENE" written on it. It looks like there's another mugshot below it, but it's obscured by a photo of Leopold. Written on that second mushot is "_____M CANTON" and "33540/032101".
I'm excited for the show. I'm a sucker for phone messages.

My guess is he almost gets out through the hole in the wall under the bed but gets caught, so they handcuff him to detain him and figure out he's not taking the pills. I'm envisioning pulling away the bed to get to the hole, and the top mattress falling away, revealing the pills he's hidden. Cool! It almost kind of looks like he has a black eye, but the picture's so small I can't tell. Knowing NBC, I doubt they'd have anyone hurting him, but at least it would be more realistic. I know a lot of people don't like "violence" especially to children, but when I see a sanitized show, I stop believing it could be real and stop enjoying it. I mean, look at what 24 gets away with an hour earlier! I'd like to think that a 10pm show could be more realistic.
But at least it shows that there's more to Leopold's story than just sitting on a cot for however many episodes we end up getting. Someone said they didn't want to see the kidnap victim, it loses the show's suspense, but I think it enhances it. I read that it's supposed to be from a different person or group's perspective each episode, so maybe one will be his, or at least the kidnappers'. I'm pretty sure that the Hispanic guy's "tenderness" toward kids is going to play into this somehow.
But I'm still trying to figure out the water thing, where Leopold's going to have to hold his breath, probably to escape. Maybe it won't be in water, but in a bag or something.
Why no #%@%*"% spoilers anywhere?! They started taping this last spring, so they should be done by now.
ETA: I racked my brain over all the stuff in the special EW insert, with all the numbers and all, but I got nothing. One thing I did think of, they showed quite a bit of Leopold's room, which reminded me of Michael Scofield's wall of weird in Prison Break, and it all had some meaning, so maybe some of the stuff in his room means something. Like the photo on the headboard with the people's heads cut off at the top.

First standout: Leopold gets mugged? Does that mean in the past, thus justifying a bodyguard, or in the future, meaning he escapes? They cast a younger Leopold, so probably past.

Agreed about Kellogg; I'd guess the sister's role takes place in the past, as in Kellogg killed her when she was a child? Maybe that's the case that caused Knapp to quit the FBI. But it didn't say he's in jail. But I like the idea.
Why was Aubrey kidnapped? Obviously not for money; so maybe she became involved somehow. Shades of Vanished. *sigh* I hope it's a better story than that.
What's with all the Mexico stuff? Maybe Leopold gets mugged when they're on vacation when he's 9 and Aubrey's 14?
Obviously, Knapp goes to one of their charity functions to see if he can spot any villains, thus the tuxedo and the characters. Sure cleans up good. :)
Ok, here's my first guesses on what the casting news may turn out to mean, although I must say the Mexico thing is really throwing me off; I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that the maid spoke Spanish to her husband, but both of the kidnappers speak Spanish, so who knows?

"Sorry, Wrong Number"
CAIN FAMILY KEEPS UP APPEARANCES AND HOST ANNUAL CHARITY BALL - Knapp (Jeremy Sisto) and Special Agent Latimer King (Delroy Lindo) insist the Cain's family keep up appearances and host their annual charity ball to prevent the public from discovering that Leopold (Will Denton) has been kidnapped. Meanwhile, Conrad Cain (Timothy Hutton) confronts a former childhood friend (guest star) who appears at the party unannounced. Elsewhere, both the private investigative team and FBI are on high alert as they wonder how he learned of the party -- and if he's the only one? Speaking of 2 days...2 days to go!
I don't know if this counts as spoilers, since the clips are on NBC's site, but wow! A whole slew of new clips with action from future episodes! And the one I was anticipating - Leopold tries to break out under the bed and gets caught, thrown against the wall, and then handcuffed to the bed. Then it looks like he overhears them saying they're going to kill him as soon as they get paid.
Also Connie with some new people, Knapp visiting someone in prison, probably Kellogg, Ellie meeting someone out in the middle of nowhere, all kinds of cool stuff!
I just realized we haven't heard anything about the bodyguard. But I'm pretty sure he'll show up again, right? He was only shot in the shoulder, and he's a pretty big name and they throw it around a lot as if he's a main character. So would they take his unconscious body to the same place Leopold is at? That doesn't make sense, seems like they'd just dump him somewhere. If so, how does he find Leopold to rescue him? I assume that's why they'd keep his character around.
I was also watching the new clip on NBC with Leopold again last night and I realized it looked like he was hurrying to get through the hole in the wall, as though they were about to stop him. So did he somehow bar the door so they couldn't get in or something? That's all I can come up with. But I loved the way when they caught him, they shoved him up against the wall, handcuffed him to the bed, and then angrily flipped him onto the bed, the one guy telling the other, "You don't leave him alone. Ever." At least some realistic action for kidnappers who almost lose their charge. People are always tiptoeing around violence to children on film, so I was afraid they'd film that kind of situation unrealistically, so I'm happy.

Also, in the preview after the show, they show 1) Leo running down the street, 2) Leo getting handcuffed to the bed, and 3) Leo laying on his side, handcuffed behind his back on a bed platform in some bright, sunshiney loft. So I'm guessing he breaks through that hole under the bed, makes a run for it, they catch him and bring him back and cuff him to the bed ("Never leave him alone"), call the boss ("Tell them we got a problem"), and get ordered to transport him to another place, since people in the neighborhood might have seen him running and call it in. Thoughts?
They show Connie going to the bar (his dad's?) and asking someone if they took his son. One of the clips shows him on the street, throwing a trash can down on a guy laying on the street; I guess he just beat him up, and the guy saying "You're a dead man, Connie."
They show a lot of the missing daughter, so I'm guessing this all can't be happening in the very next episode, they must be showing a whole arc of story in the preview. So they show her running, too, and being held hostage. Wonder what that's got to do with anything? They show her playing pool with a guy (the one from the bar who kidnaps her?) too.
I'm wondering, since they said the maid's husband called, if just for grins they'd make her husband be the Anglo guy holding Leo, and not the Hispanic guy, like we're supposed to maybe suspect. He did speak Spanish.
You see Ellie getting money out of the safe in one of the clips, and then you see her meeting someone both in an apartment and in a park at night. And Knapp with her! Maybe she brings the money and the guy takes it and it's just a scam, so she tells Knapp and they go to his apartment? It looks like a neat scene, where he threatens to throw the guy out the window, the guy screams NO!, and Knapp says something like "Huh. Doesn't want to go out the window."

Please of please TV Gods, don't let the older sister be like Kim Bauer or worse the awful daughter on Vanished. Please.
Now I'm curious of what his place may look like which is a big waste of time since I doubt he'd sleep there that much when on a case.they go to his apartment?

I'm home now, so I'll give you the play by play on the preview for next week:
Knapp telling the Cains the word's going to get out about Leo, but until then act like nothing happened.
Leo running down the street, obviously fast, but in slow motion on the screen, while Knapp is still talking.
while Ellie is lying on Leo's bed again, day time (innamorata, here's the scene where the poster's off the wall and the guitars are in the corner near the bed; looks like she did some housecleaning, probably didn't like the "life and death" image on the Good Charlotte poster)
More telling them to act like everything's ok, voiced over scene of Connie viewed from under water of the pool, splashing the water. Then shot of Leo under water at bottom of pool looking up, talking, letting bubbles out, looks like he's saying "help me" as Ellie asks "how can we do that?" and Knapp says "it's best for Leopold."
Then similar shot of Alice underwater, looking dead. Judging from the voiceover about nightmares, I'm assuming Connie's having a nightmare about his kids dying.
Some random shot of a lighter being lit.
In Leo's room, Ellie asking Knapp if he thinks one of their friends could be involved, and he says "Until Leo comes home, you have no friends."
Scene of Connie banging a trash can over some guy's head in the street, walking across the street, somebody taking pictures of him as he gets in his car, voice over about his past raising questions.
Latimer King at the proverbial clues board with team, someone showing him a picture of the cop with his throat slashed.
Connie in the bar yelling at another guy who's drinking, "Did you take my kid?"
Knapp and FBI-pup looking in a dark place with flashlights, open a refrigerator.
Knapp strongarming some guy over a bar, guy goes "No, man" and Knapp says "If you're lying I'm gonna come back," gives him a cute slap to the face. [I saw some other preview where he says he's gonna take a guy's eye out if he doesn't tell him what he wants to know.]
Voiceover about the kidnapping being "just the beginning" as the apartment gopher guy delivers a package, which Alice accepts and Maria opens in the kitchen, she screams bloody murder - so I thought it was Leo's finger or something, but then it looks lilke something is on fire or blowing up; may be just a trick photography thing. Maybe Leo's tie?
What looks like Aubrey getting her head smashed against a mirror by the Accountant. WTF?
A helicopter taking off.
Voiceover of "While everyone's looking for a kidnapped boy" showing King looking at video from bar where Aubrey was, seeing that guy who kidnapps her in the video; cut to Leo on the bed looking really scared, then video of him getting handcuffed to the bed.
[Note: They're really bad about putting this stuff in here out of order to make something look like something else; it's my opinion that they handcuffed him first after the escape attempt and then came to get him (this scene) to move him, thus the being scared.]
Aubrey telling her dad "He's a smart kid, dad," (looks like she's smoking a cigarette).
Aubrey playing pool with a guy
Aubrey running down the street being chased by the guy who kidnapped her, broad daylight. [IMO, the Aubrey/dad scene was probably at the end of the episode.]
Voiceover continues "The next target is wide open."
Leo laying on the bed platform (no mattress), on his side, handcuffed behind his back, as the door opens (they do that a lot).
A car driving in the dark, might be a police car (some kind of blue light in the back window).
Kidnap guy holding Aubrey hostage, shooting at people, nighttime.
Connie to some guy "Where's my boy?" It looks like he's holding a pool cue stick, which would match the going to the bar bit.
FBI-pup pulling a gun from behind a car door at kidnap guy holding Aubrey hostage.
King, very shaken, probably to kidnap guy "We can work this out!"
Gun to Aubrey's head, closeup shot of gun and hair.
That's it.

Took me way too long to get that Connie was Conrad though. For some reason I think Connie is strictly a female name.
I'm so French, huh? ;)
Imagine what she would have done if it had been a Marilyn Manson poster. She might have moved out. *g*innamorata, here's the scene where the poster's off the wall and the guitars are in the corner near the bed; looks like she did some housecleaning, probably didn't like the "life and death" image on the Good Charlotte poster

"Number One With A Bullet"
LEOPOLD CAIN'S BODYGUARD TARGETED ONCE AGAIN AS KIDNAPPERS SEEK TO TIE UP LOOSE ENDS - As Virgil (Mykelti Williamson) is prepped for surgery Special Agent Latimer King (Delroy Lindo) realizes something is wrong, as the hired assassin -- "The Accountant" (guest star James Urbanial) -- attempts to tie up loose ends by posing as a surgeon. Elsewhere Knapp (Jeremy Sisto) goes undercover to investigate the specialized bullet that struck down Virgil. Meanwhile, Conrad Cain (Timothy Hutton) is interrogated by detectives regarding the murder of his childhood friend who was last seen leaving the Cain's residence. Dana Delany (Ellie Cain) tries to find comfort by joining an anonymous group for parents whose children have been abducted. Carmen Ejogo and Linus Roache also star.
