Not my favourite performance of the night, but my favourite voice. However he's not on the right show, Tommy Lee would eat this guy alive on tour - I can just see Tommy on the tour bus, sitting back snacking on a thigh bone and Jason Newsted is all "where's our singer?" and Tommy Lee would just give him a shit eating grin and toss him a foot. But I would buy any CD this guy put out because his voice was honeylicious.

Love Josh. His was the only performance that I watched again. Definitely my favorite so far, but even so, I have to agree with TallulahBelle that he is so not roit for SN. He's not gonna win and that's fine with me. I just want him to stick around until the very end so I can hear him sing as much as possible.

I like the tone of his voice, but he really needs to enunciate better. However, I was looking at his list of favorite songs linked to his bio, and he lists "Dogman" by King's X. That won him some MAJOR points in my book.

It's only week one, but....I'm seriously lovin' Josh! The voice, to me, is the most distinctive of the bunch. Well, his and dilana's. Here's a link to a Josh article I found on rockband.com...

I really like his voice and his performance today, but it's completely true that he is not suited for this competition. I actually can see him being a solo artist, since his voice is that strong and distinctive.

I want him to stay around for many more weeks so I'll vote for him, but if he gets up to, say, the top five I'm going to stop voting for him because he really does not fit with the band and while he's my favourite thus far I don't want him to win.

Not only does he have a different sound, but a different on-stage vibe as well....very happy, smiling, and laid-back, in contrast to all the brooding angst of the other male rockers. It'll be interesting to see whether that gets held against him later on, as happened with Mig last season.

I liked Josh's voice, but his stage mannerisms bugged me. I rewound and just closed my eyes and listened, and it was much better. I think he's too clean cut and aw-shucks cute for the SN dudes though.

Josh might be a little too neo-hepcat for my liking, but he is the only contestant who had a sense of joy when he was performing. I like his voice, even though he isn't doing anything Gavin Degraw and Adam Levine haven't already popularized in the last four years. He's the only contestant whose album I'd buy tomorrow, though.

I take back what I said about Josh not being right for the band, at least vocally. After listening to what he did in the studio from the first episode (links can be found here about a third of the way down), surprisingly, his voice fits the music well. Very impressive.

Yep, I get the Adam Levine thing, mostly. We'll see, but I think maybe not right. Very cute, though. I'm partial to that.

jasonnn, I'm with you. I'm still not a 100% sure he is right for these guys, but he is talented.

I don't like Creed one bit, but I was very into his performance of "Arms Wide Open" tonight. Lovely voice. Nice stage presence. And he's just too cute.

Did I hear him say "this is for my son" at the beginning of the song? He was mumbling.

You took the words out of my mouth. I'd like his voice in a different setting, but for RS: Suave Porn... I don't think so.

I kinda like his laid back stance, but he should tone down the Guy Smiley thing he's doing. He's a little too happy for this band.

This is petty and mean, but the guy reminds me of that monkey and cymbals toy. That, and it's like he's doing Guy-Smiley (game show host guy from Sesame Street) does hard rock. I guess it just feels put on and not natural coming from him.
He's not bad, but I have to listen to him with my eyes closed because I've got these two images stuck in my mind.

I interviewed Josh for my hometown newspaper back in 2003 (I'm from Josh's hometown). At the time, he was just breaking into the singer/songwriter mode and his style was all over the place: he was doing some original punk stuff but still singing cover tunes (one of my favorites was his acoustic guitar version of Snoop Dogg's "Gin n Juice"). He is an incredibly hard worker who geniunely loves music. It's funny that people see him as a "guy smiley," because in real life he's very quiet and kind of intense.

Love this guy, and I, too, feel the cleansing power of Covers at Mom's Karaoke Den, but:

OB: Dave Matthews Farewell Tour, or OB: Blues Traveler this guy would litter with the smoking, dessicated hulls of his former competitors. OB: Supernova this guy is one, maybe two Roxanne away from the gate. And not roit doesn't even begin to describe it.

Supernova almost has to go with Toby or Patrice by default. And oh, yeah: they will need another axe, stat.

I'm glad someone else remembers this, too. I thought his track was definitely the best, especially singing slow over the fast guitars in the chorus and being the only one to use really utilize the build-up as it went into the chorus. Like Storm was mouthing- Genius. It's a pity that his version will just be discarded when he gets voted off.

I thought he was the best too. His voice sounds great when he sings hard songs..so he definitely should do more of that. Minimizing the smiling and having more attitude will help him too. I kinda feel that he's gonna be the dark horse of this competition once he really starts rocking it out.

I totally agree with this. Not only is his studio clip the best, IMO, but there were a couple of notes here and there in Arms Wide Open where he turned on his 'rock voice', and he sounded great. I think this guy's got real versatility and great instincts. Dig him.

I know he's caught some crap for the flannels, but I kind of appreciate his understated, chill look. There's enough eyeliner and Manic Panic Hair Dye on that stage as it is.

I hope he sticks around a while.

Yeah, that studio clip sounds really great. So non-forced and what a great tone! Thanks for the heads up!

And count me in as a supporter of his present look (minus earrings). The rocker image that many of these guys are sporting is beginning to grate.

Please choose wisely this week, Josh! Though after reading the spoiler thread, it seems like it's not to be.

I don't remember who first said that he sounds like a kazoo, but I'm afraid that it's true, so he is now, with his eyes doing their pothead smile onstage, dubbed by me "the Stoner Kazoo, " not out of hostility so much as description.

ETA: It was CalumetK.

Josh is the opposite of Zayra. Let me explain.

Josh and Zayra will very likely visit the bottom three next week. That's their similarity. Neither are a fit for Supernova. Their difference lies in their approach. The Z is the square peg trying to fit into the round hole. She showed in her survival performance that she is actually pretty good at singing ballads and/or emo. But, she showed the night before that she absolutely sucks at rock. But, in order to front Supernova, you have to be able to sing rock, and she just simply can't. Josh, on the other hand, also can't sing rock all that well, and he is also not a fit for Supernova. He is also a square peg. But the difference is, Josh is trying to change the hole, rather than the peg. Instead of him trying to perform in a manner that fits Supernova, he's trying to get Supernova to alter themselves to fit his performances. That's not going to work either. Supernova is what it is, but I respect Josh for knowing who HE is. He should have tried out for ABC's show, THE ONE, instead.

I love me some Josh, but he is definitely not roit for SN. I am really glad though that he stood up for himself this week when Gilby called out his whole soul thing. Unlike Dana, Josh isn't going to change who he is to please the band and that is so important. You've gotta respect that.

I feel like I am rooting for all my favorites to NOT win this thing. Why get stuck with all that drama?

It's strange, but I kind of loved Fuck This, I'm Beatboxing Josh this week. He actually seemed to be enjoying himself when he was performing "Santoria," despite it's complete non-relation to any type of music Suave Porn might produce. Even the smiling didn't bug me. I'll take that over whatever he was doing on Creed night anyday. Maybe he's figured out he's not going to win and has just decided to enjoy the ride until his soul gets booted. Maybe, after hearing what kind of band this is going to be, he doesn't even want to win anymore. I can't say I blame him.

The band seems to like Josh even though, at this point, they know he isn't musically compatible with them and isn't their guy. They probably included "Santeria" on the list of songs because they knew he'd take it and wanted him to have a nice moment back in his element.

Those lyrics are a bit risque, aren't they?

Josh stepped it up at the songwriting clinic this week! And MB suspiciously left it out of the webisode. Check out the threads, there's a lot of buzz about Josh tonight. The lyrics are very cool (inspiration seems to be Supernova methinks....)
